Another well put together video. I lost 2 tanks of baby plecos due to over cleaning my filters. Never gave it much thought until I saw the results. Made perfect sense. Hindsight is always 50-50. PS at 8:20 CURELTY is misspelled. Yeah sometimes my OCD kicks in.

Thank you for your comment. I'm sorry to hear about your tanks. Even now I find there is a lot of bad information out there about the nitrogen cycle. I fixed my subtitles. Thank you for pointing it out. I don't have any peer reviewers. I appreciate the help.

I had an already cycled tank with one goldfish in it and canister filter with 2 layers of biological filter. The moment I introduced new fishes there was spike in ammonia & nitrite. Do I need to add stability or just wait

hi great video and I'm hoping I'm not making any mistakes...but I recently upgraded to 20g from my 10g.I have currently 3 glofish,1 pleco.I used my old filter bio media from the 10g and put into a new filter for the 20g along with some new media..I also transferred over the gravel substrate from the old tank also.At first I had my fish in a QT container and then I added them into my new tank.Now in the back of mind I was thinking I didn't want to cycle with the fish..But now that their in the tank im checking the water parameters constantly and using seachem prime,because i know before the cycle can start there has to be an ammonia spike(my fish are in there but for some strange reason they are not showing any signs of ammonia stress.When I last tested the water with the API master kit it showing ammonia at 0.25 ppm of course I dosed with prime.Although both nitrites and nitrates are still at 0ppm..Have I done anything wrong so far(except for the fish in cycle)?I was also using seachem stability for 7 days but during that time everything was at 0ppm.I havent done any water changes yet,due to the fact of the fish in cycle or am I supposed to?Please i would greatly appreciate any advice or suggestions you might have

Hi Rochelle, I just recently subbed your channel and have enjoyed your videos. They have been very informative and entertaining with a lot of facts I personally agree with. I wish I lived closer to visit your shop as I am from the US in the state of Illinois. I have a 220 gallon aquarium with all Malawi haps, about half common haps and the other half Predator haps all ranging from 6-11 inches. My favorites are the Aristochromis Christyi and the Champsochromis Caeruleus. Anyways, I'm glad you are doing your videos in English and look forward to your next. Thanks very much for sharing

+Denny's Aquatics Hi Danny, thanks for your comment. It's too bad that you're so far away, we would have had fun comparing haps. My personal favorite predator happy is the fossorochromis rostratus. I once had a breeder colony where the males were 12 inches and fully colored. I had never seen such a beautiful fish

I've had my 56 gal tank for a few years now. Lately my water has been really cloudy. I use the Seacham products. My water will clear somewhat but after two weeks will get cloudier & cloudier. I've been doing 20 to 25 gallon water changes every 2 weeks. And full tank clean (filters, plants, substrate) monthly. Still cloudy. When you say 10% change weekly, DO I ADD THE SEACHAM PRIME MEASURED FOR THE WHOLE 56 GALLONS OR THE 10% WATER CHANGE. ?? Do u know what I mean? I don't know if I should measure the Seacham products for the whole tank or just the new water being put in?
@QuebecCichlides4 жыл бұрын
It depends on what you use the Seachem Prime for : ►To remove chlorine : 1 cap / 50 gal of new water ►To detoxify ammonia and nitrite : 1 cap/50gal / 1ppm of ammonia. Here's a video about what to do with cloudy water. Good luck : kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z6CkkHV7gbh_ibM

Thank you for your very informative vids. At time: 5:27 or so, did you say you should change your water "weekly"? Is that really necessary if your Nitrates are only 5 ppm. Some KZbin Vids say no need to change if under 20 ppm. I suppose this would likely depend on what type of freshwater fish you have, how many, etc. Thanks.
@QuebecCichlides4 жыл бұрын
If its under 20ppm, you can go a little longer. In the african cichlid tank, weekly is usually what you have to do. It's easier to integrate water changes to your routine if do them on the same day, rather than a different day each week.

Hi there. Great video and I learned so much. I just setup my first aquarium today (30 liters). I am happy to wait the time out for the cycle to complete but how do you start the cycle and how do keep the cycle progressing? My understanding is that it starts with ammonia but where does the ammonia comes from if there are no fish in the tank? How do you keep “fuelling” the process with ammonia without fish. Thanks for a great channel and I already subscribed!!

i have been cycling my tank for over a month and the nitrites do not seem to be lowering what do i do
@QuebecCichlides7 жыл бұрын
+richardm239 that's usually because the filter is either not strong enough for your tank or because the cycle took longer to start so you're at "week 2" instead of "week 4"

What should we do if tap water is the source of ammonia? My tap water contains 1 ppm ammonia... and is the reason I have yet to set up my tank.
@QuebecCichlides6 жыл бұрын
Hi there. That's not good. Don't drink that water. Look into a RODI to remove the ammonia. You plug it directly on your tap. What country are you from? I'll send you a link to the one I recommend.
@metaph66 жыл бұрын
@@QuebecCichlides I live in Virginia (USA). Somebody told me that my test kit could be reading chloramines as ammonia. Either way, removing them is an absolute necessity before I set up a fish tank! What kind of an RO unit would you recommend? And would you recommend that I add something to the water after it's been filtered? I'm assuming an RO unit will take out all the minerals that could be beneficial, as well. :(

hi without being controversial i have never cycled a tank fishless and i have been keeping fish for over 30 years i run the tank for one week and add fluval cycle to my filter after a week i add say two mbuna feed little but keep adding fluval cycle week two add two more fish and so on. i have never lost a fish this way. also from experience i would not recommend seachem prime if you add just abit too much it takes all the oxygen out of the water you will find your fish at the surface struggling to breathe. now thats not good. without sounding arrogant as im not i have never used a test kit after 30 plus years you kind of get to understand the water the smell the fishes behaviour how they are acting it kind of becomes a sixth sense.

They do. What I have found is that, even in a tank fully stocked with plants, you still would have to make some water changes. They don't eat it all.
