Had one for a year or so now this is a excellent NT for small size and large print makes it perfectly carry everywhere print big enough to read by candle light.i use it most days and makes a 3 chapter a day monthly gospel rule very easy. Mines getting used now i had to sellotape the front cover im sure it will still out live me 😊

Some people want it updated i say no just look at the esv and the controversy starting up about constant updates it could fall into some very sinful ground and accusations of cash grabbing imo i hate to see the nkjv brung down.

That's kind of a strange New Testament. I wonder what they were thinking to print it sideways like that. When I was in elementary school, they passed out those little red Gideon's New Testaments with Psalms and Proverbs. Mine was tossed in the closet and remained little read for years, but it was still there waiting for me several years later as a troubled, very depressed teenager. That was my introduction to Jesus. It saved my life.

It may be that it's intended to appeal to people who like a wide text column, like in a normal book. I normally prefer a narrow text column, but this appeals to me because the font is relatively large in a small package -- though I think they managed the 9 point font by using a single column of text with narrow margins; I doubt the orientation made much difference in that regard. Like you, I'm very grateful to the Gideons.

@@johnwilderspin1633 I think it was 1982 when I received mine. I remember looking at it on the school bus coming home, then throwing it in the closet. It sat there waiting for the right time in 1987, when I was at my most depressed point in life, like so many other teenagers, ready to end their days on this earth. I'm not going to bore you with the whole story, but that's when I first started reading, really reading the Bible. I'm still here, a husband to a beautiful woman, and a father of two great kids, and a Christian.

Hi Grant, please could you review the ESV New Testament, Psalms & Proverbs from Crossway that you compare to in this video? I have been eyeing this edition for a long while now, and as it’s out of print it’s very expensive online (I can only find one listing for it), so would like to see a good video of it before purchasing. There’s only one video of it on KZbin but I could do with your great depth and detail! ESV is my favourite and I love carrying a New Testament with Psalms & Proverbs with me, but unfortunately there aren’t many good ESV NT editions to choose from. This may be a stretch but another request for a review would be the NKJV Thomas Nelson New Testament, Psalms & Proverbs from 1989. I’m also looking at this online and would love to see a review of it if you have a copy before committing to purchase. Really appreciate your great service to us to help us not only choose the best Bibles and books from a scholarly angle, but an everyday devotional use with the Lord as well. This is an interesting little Bible. I think the landscape mode gives it ability to have a larger font. I'm looking for a small Bible like this, with a readable font, but I want the full Bible. I don't want half of a Bible. I think Crossway has one, but I'm not sure of the font size. I'm watching the ESV Personal Reference Bible and the ESV Value Large Print Compact. The NKJV has a really good looking compact, but it's a red letter edition. I don't want a red letter Bible. On another note, have had a look at the Berean Study Bible or the Berean Literal Bible.

I like the flip-book concept for a pocket Bible. It looks much easier to read. I wonder if it will catch on and replace the current, small-print pocket Bibles that are frequently passed out. I have an update about the "r" in the original KJV. I spoke with my friend briefly, and she can provide an explanation. Unfortunately, she is going through a round of chemo, so she will get back to me when she has rested and refreshed her brain. I will provide the answer as soon as I have it. Also, I did find a used DRB. I still paid more than what I would normally for a used book. However, I did get a nearly new Baronius Press leather hardback for a deep discount. Now, I must wait for it to come in the mail. (I thought I would share because I am quite excited.)

@@rachelkarslake7787 - that is a useful article. I now know the correct name for the 'r' that looks like a 2 with a whisker - r rotunda. What the author says about its placement makes sense as well: It comes after a letter with a rounded stroke on the right. The KJV typeface rounds the d on the right, so that works. Very helpful!

That's interesting. They should make it stand up like on of those daily calendars. In fact, if they put the day and date on it, it can serve as a daily calendar as well as a Bible. Double purpose!

Lol. I actually tried that (not writing the date on it, but setting it up like a daily calendar), and it can be done with heavy abutments in place. But I had to keep one finger on the book to keep it from closing.

I regard the NKJV Old Testament to be rather superfluous, so this edition offers the only part of the translation that I regard as useful. (If the OT could be updated with extensive footnotes based on the LXX and DSS, it would be far more interesting. Until then, the Orthodox Study Bible will remain the only edition with something unique to offer in the OT.) As for the design of the book, I find the sideways design a bit off-putting, but the text layout/font itself to be the best one I've seen for an NKJV. I generally have found NKJVs to be quite ugly little creatures.
