I started fishing again in 2016 after retiring. New to bass fishing. I read a fishing book, and it talked about "Senkos" Gosh, what new fangled thing is this? Then I looked at the date of the book "1994" (I think). I'm 30 years behind everything :)

I'm not a bass guy, I fish in the saltwater. But my biggest bass bit a wacky rigged Googan version of the Senko. It was a 3.64 lb spotted bass in Lake Norman, nothing impressive. But what is interesting to me is that now something similar to the Senko is catching on in the saltwater. I just got a pack of Salt Strong Polk County Tweekers (yes that's really the name 😂) and they're a little more tapered at the ends. And they have dimples like a golf ball, supposedly for longer casts. They're intended to be used on jig heads or weedless weighted hooks or Texas Eye type swinging heads with weedless EWG hooks. But I bet I could get redfish to eat them wacky rigged if I can see the fish. I'll try it if I can find some reds I can sight cast to. And I also think a wacky rig would catch flounder. Right now I have a hard time finding the fish to catch them.

I have to agree. I have caught more bass the last 50 years on spinnerbaits then all other lure combined. Everything from waking them on the surface to dragging a "thumper" on the bottom. For me personally my all time favorite bass lure I ever used was the Torpedo. I caught my first bass and my first crappie (the crappie was and still is my pb). It was the first lure my dad got me when he bought me a snoopy dog fishing pole back in 92 or 93. I loved hitting clear water ponds that had grass in shallows and I'd look for big ol round open spots especially when bass were on beds and popping that Torpedo over the opening and watching it just get destroyed.

I think I could make a pretty good case for a jig. A Spinnerbait is pretty solid and predates both and I’ve probably caught more fish on one than any other bait. I could probably do all my fishing with a Senko, Spinnerbait and Jig since I catch about 90% of my bass on those three baits.

In all my years of fishing, I can count on one hand the # of fish I have caught on a stick bait, and two of them were on a wacky rig. I normally fish it Texas rigged but I just don’t do any good with it. And not just a stick bait worm….No worm bait of any size does any good in the ponds I fish. The Senko's introduction and its simplicity devastated traditional tackle makers and forced many into bankruptcy. It took years for the industry to recover. It severely damaged fish populations, too. People who couldn't fish before immediately started catching fish by simply putting a hook into a Senko and casting. I sure hope that FFS and the jighead minnow don't result in the same devastation.
