This brought back memories. When I was a kid, my dad would take me fishing with a worm, a Purple Crème worm. It was rigged on a gold straight shank hook, with a split shot crimped in a slight bend below the eye. We caught the bass on that rig. Crème was about it, Fliptail may have been around, I can’t remember, but if it was, we didn’t use it. Tackle was hard to get back then, you had to hope a hardware store carried some tackle. I’ve still got one of my dad’s package of the old Crème worms in red. I have no idea how old those worms are, but I’m 67, and I remember them coming packaged like they are when I was a kid. Good memories.

Is there a reason for the trick worm being the standard? I've found a ribbon-tail worm stands up a little better on the bottom and is a lot easier to get action. Just a little shake of the rod or even just dragging over rocks can create a good little whip I usually use a power worm to make it a littke easier to find in murkier water. When I use a trick worm it tends to just lie on the bottom without a pretty big hop to lift it up.

Thanks for this video Randy. But, I was hoping that you would have discussed the retrieve methods of the Shakey Head.

Randy I have a few suggestions about the issues you have raised . You should start a new circuit with your friends. No FFS, tournament schedule, however, do not copy FLW ! I fished it for a year and did well. However it is a co-angler f--fest. Those boaters will do anything to screw the co-angler. Thanks for listening.

I use the screw lock kind. I agree they are not the best for presentation BUT I make them myself for about 25¢ a piece as opposed to $2 a piece for store bought ones. And with the boulder fields around here it’s nothing to lose 10 a day.

Good discussion and information but- Can't talk me out of using the spiral wire keeper- It's been too good to me. you cant keep that hook point exposed in Louisiana waters.. That little plastic worm keeper probably fine in clean bottom lakes but not so much here.... you will have to use twice or more as many worms to catch the same fish. I agree 16th and 8th oz heads are best and that lead shape is super for getting through cover.

Thank you. My challenge is when to tie on a shakey head. After failed reaction attempts? After failed T Rig attempts? Prior to drop shot? I just fail to recognize when to sequence this presentation. Thank you for any guidance.

I've been using a screw type keeper for a while now and caught lots of fish on this type of shakeyhead hook.

How deep are you fishing with 1/16th and 1/8th heads? I fish 1/8th here mostly but rarely I’ll use 3/16th. BUT the depth I’m fishing here is commonly 10 to 20 feet and once I get 25 or 35 feet I’ll use the 3/16th.
@RocketDaryl5 ай бұрын
I use 1/16th for 15 and below, generally. I go to an 1/8th for 15-25. One thing he didn't mention, and why I said "generally", is I don't choose the weight based on depth alone. Sometimes, I change up the weight the increase or decrease the fall rate. Sometimes fish will not hit a 1/16th in 8 foot of water, for example, but will go after a 1/8th. The faster drop just triggers them for whatever reason. Sometimes, it's just the opposite. Go figure.

Good luck getting these from Tackle Warehouse in a reasonable amount of time. Ordered a pack of 1/16 and of 1/8 along with other items (through Randy's link). Both were back ordered. After about 3 weeks, 1/8th was in stock. They said another 2-3 weeks for 1/16th. Asked them to ship the 1/8th. Said they would have to charge shipping. I had already paid shipping on original order. Told them I would wait. Kept checking the order status and after a few weeks, status was another month for 1/16th. Contacted them with my frustration. Customer service guy very rude and suggested I cancel order. I finally talked them into sending 2 pks of 1/8th to save from paying freight again. Then it took 2 weeks to receive them because they only ship back orders USPS. I complained again because 2 weeks is ridiculous. They claimed they have to get order ready and call USPS to pick up. Again very rude to me. Randy, I love your videos and will continue to watch them. However I'm done with TW. I communicated with them 3 or 4 times and everytime they were rude. I can understand someone having a bad day once in a while, but not everytime.

Every fishing YT channel in existence has a TW affiliate link. I stick with Bass Pro Shops. Sure they don't have every new fangled lure that some YTer tells you "you just gotta have" but I don't buy that nonsense anyway. Here in Florida you don't need all that crap, particularly the light line weeny worming BS. None of my outfits have less than 15 lb test on them. Fishing anything less is just a way to have lots of fish stories about the big one that got away. Finesse fishing down here is a complete waste of time

I made an order last week involving a rod and a couple of terminal tackle items and it got to me in 2 days. Made another order today that included more of these shakey heads and some worms and stuff, and the estimated delivery date is for 8 days from now. Nothing I ordered was not in stock, although a few things were listed as low stock. Don’t know why a simple order would take so long and the other with the rod took a couple days. Yes, I used your links each time, Randy.
