Hi Curlypenny, My daughter shared your video with me, I use Both of the ingredients myself But Can i just bring one thing to your attention that i found out the hard way. In the US you call it baking soda,In the UK its called Bicarbonate of soda, If UK viewers use baking soda it has almost like an acid effect and will no doubt damage peoples hair. I found this out by mistake and done some research. (UK) bicarbonate of soda can be used as a very effective deodorant/antiperspirant and its natural and works much better that all that spray on store bought stuff ! But if you used (UK) baking soda under your arms You're gonna get Very sore Very quickly (as I found out :( They are 2 different things here, I believe one is an acid and the other an alkaline. If somebody already mentioned this I do apologize

Jon Bishop I am in Australia and we have 2 products .. one is actual baking powder and the other is bicarbonated soda. Which is the one i should use please? Your comment caught my eye just as i was heading out to jump in the shower and wash my hair with the baking powder. Gulp!!! The last thing i need is to wash with the wrong ingredients and damage my new hair .. arghhhh. So thanks for this.

@lelechim

I think white vinegar would be too strong. Raw, organic, unfiltered apple cider with "The Mother" is the best to use, and it's actually pretty widely available now. CVS has their own store brand, and big box stores like Walmart and Target carry it too. You can even go on their websites to see if there are any in stock at your local store. ACV is so versatile that I actually bought an entire gallon from luckyvitamin.com.

Thank you thank you THANK YOU for this video. I needed EXACTLY this information as this is my 3rd week of not washing my hair with anything but water and I am STILL in the 'transition' period so am reeeealllly looking forward to the results you experienced by using these products. By the way I love your hair, it is amazing!!!! Wish I had thick, curly hair like yours however one thing I have found with not washing it with shampoo & conditioner is that my normally verrrry fine, lank (although silky) flyaway frizzy ended hair has all like pulled together as a team (i know it sounds silly but it is true) and my hair is wayyyyy more voluminous and luxuriant in it's feel and look! My only problem is the oily scalp (HOWEVER it is 'meant' (quite literally) to be massaged EXTREMELY well when washed with water, not just a little bit as our head sheds skin cells as well as has oil buildup so we NEED to be (when our hair dries .. never when wet) brushing right down to the scalp and then all the way through to the ends of the hair .. to thoroughly move the oils AND dead skin cells (which is completely normal) and the sebum (natural oils) in our hair, all the way through. Our hair is MEANT to be self cleaning (go see the video of 'The Doctors' episode on my channel 'sospeciallyme' where they explain this, and dr's and specialists in the medical industry also address exactly this topic and all the pro's and con's of the 'no poo' method). This is why a lot of (but not all I guess) women believed in brushing their hair 100 brush strokes every single night. I do even more than that (my hair is about 3 inches below shoulder length now) and then braid my hair before i go to bed as i don't want it to get all knotty overnight .. and that reminds me .. that's another plus of the no poo method .. before i started doing this, i would finger comb my hair out as it just had SO SO MANY KNOTS in it when I used shampoo/conditioner AND I had major hair fall (am 51yo). But after no poo'ing (that still sounds rank lol), I hardly EVER get knots & my hair is literally (apart from the transitioning period which should be over very soon) .. my hair is literally in the best condition of my entire life!! It is thicker, stronger, has hardly any knots & while wet it isn't stretchy and AS easily broken as before, as well as it is just so soft as well and SO easy to style. Hands down the best decision I have made in years!! So thanks again for your video giving AMOUNTS of what was needed. I had heard of what to use but never any amounts and how to apply. So God bless you girl and thanks again. :)

hey Penny, great point at the end. I never knew about the transition stage, and almost gave up cause of the build up. It lasted for almost a month, 😑 until I began adding tea tree in my no sulfate shampoo (and using a shampoo brush). FYI: that would be a great video to make for the newbies. 😉

+Cornelia Hanimann straight up baking soda yes, but extremely diluted in water and followed up with something that replenishes the moisture would most likely not be as damaging. I'm sure many people have had negative results when not using these ingredients properly. THanks for the warning though 😊

Stephanie Vizzi I'm pretty sure I read a blog where someone put baking soda into water and tested the PH strip with every cup of water she added...she almost never got out of the PH8 area so... I know it sounds so promising but this method tears up hair and baking soda alone isn't damaging...it's actually the mixture with water. I'm just saying it because many have failed with this method. you can still try

+Donatello uuuuhm I don't know if this helps because I am not sure if it helped with me... BUT a HUGE difference made a shampoo from aveda...it's expensive and with the right conditioner I haven't had so little problems for years. I used to get pimples on my scalp-sounds gross but it's an issue... and they went away mostly after I started using avedas products-they're pretty much as plant based and useful as you can get. I tried sulfate free shampoos and I would like to say it helped a little but honestly thinking back, I can't but I can definately say that there is improvement with the aveda shampoo. so that might help-at least a little

I did this for the first time today. My hair is super voluminous and soft. But my scalp is a little irritated. Depending on your hair type I think once a month as a clarifying wash is good enough. Any more than that will probably damage your hair in the long run.

I've used a 50/50 mix of ACV and water in a hair color applicator bottle in place of shampoo, then co-washed. It works pretty well :) Since I have oily roots, I probably would have no success with co-washing if I did not pre-cleanse with ACV. I haven't heard of using it as a conditioner. I don't think it would be moisturizing enough, even though my hair is not particularly dry! I've yet to try baking soda on my hair.

This method really works best with hair that has African "kink" or is really thick and "ethnic". Black women use moisturizers and oils daily. White and Asian women can not use the same oils and moisturizers b/c oftentimes these same moisturizers and oils are far too heavy or make their hair oily, especially not on a daily basis. I've had very good results with this method and my son's dandruff has disappeared. I do agree with the post above where someone mentioned using a lower ACV ratio to not damage the hair. Instead of half and half, perhaps 1/3 or even 1/4 ACV to the water ratio. Within a week I saw a growth from my crown of 3/4 an inch. Hope this helps.

Sou adepta do "low poo" e uso bicarbonato de sódio como shampoo e vinagre de maçã como condicionador. O resultado é ótimo! Beijos! Brasil.

Been doing the no poo method for 4 weeks now with just water and ACV and about to give up. My hair has gone beyond what I can stand so, going to try this first and see if it helps with the dryness and oiliness. If this doesn't help or work then I won't no what to do.

Do you have any suggestions for dying hair with minimal damage? I have lots premature greys strands and every time I dye my hair the texture is ruined for months.
