Hey, just a suggestion we use soapnuts since our childhood in India and also in the united states.Initially we don’t wet our hair we use soapnut water directly for the first and rub it in taking partitions all over the head then rinse off and repeat till we get froth.The thing is soapnuts don’t produce froth untill the dirt is gone.For conditioning add Fenugreek seeds in the water not too much about 1tsp.Try to soak them in hot water before bathing and let it cool down and when it is warm then use it.Still we need to see what works for us :)

I watched this video today, went straight out and bought a bag of soapnuts from my local healthfoods shop, and made this tonight. I had washed my hair with water only for two weeks, no shampoo or conditioner, so I had oily hair. I applied this to my roots, massaged it into my scalp, left it maybe 60 seconds max, rinsed it off, and was AMAZED at the result! My hair was literally squeaky clean, I didn't even bother repeating it, once was enough. Now it's dried all lovely and clean and bouncy, and it's so soft too! I'm never going back to shampoo or conditioner. One tablespoon of ground flaxseeds worked fine and I used rosemary essential oil. Very impressed with this👍

Never use a glass jar in the shower or bath. I have a 6” scar on my leg from when I was 14 and glass slipped through my hands. Maybe use a plastic one with a squeeze tube. Also maybe just use a conditioner on the ends for less fly always?
@zg68793 жыл бұрын
Yes, when glass breaks it can be quite dangerous. However, glass is basically the best thing out there for clean storage. The way to safely use glass in the shower is to use one of those silicone wrap things like they put on water bottles, or use a bamboo bottle carrying/holder thing, or keep your bottles set on a shower bench and just pump as needed. Alternatively, do that more minimalist clean look, when I’m wet I pick up my glass bottles with a wash cloth. Helps with adding some traction.

If you want a natural conditioner marshmallow root works very well, it can be boiled up and used as either a rinse, leave in or as a deep conditioner mask.

Hey, If you smash these nuts and put it in warm water then it will be similar to a shampoo (gives lot of foam). The seed (inside part) also acts as a soap. I've been no poo for many years. And I've found certain water-based products I like to use. I consider a vinegar rinse a must (distilled water with distilled white vinegar brought to a pH of about 4) I'll use it about once a month. This is the most minimalist method. If I use nothing else, I use at least this. The distilled water removes the impurities from my tap water, and so prevents that hard waxy feeling. And the vinegar restores the acid mantle on my hair, and so leaves my sebum thin, smooth, and soft. It's great. But it's very strong on the scalp, so once a month is enough. The rest of the time, I like to clarify after the shower with only distilled water. But I also like herbal rinses and more recently rice water. They also have a good pH and removes impurities form my tap, so I don't use the vinegar rinse if I'm using stuff like this. There are so many options tbh.

I have done this so many times without failing. Hi, I've been using soapnuts for hair for years. I'm not Indian but I tried and I liked it. I freeze the soapnuts liquid in an ice cube tray, and I use a special bottle to apply it. I also don't wet my hair before applying. Lately I've been washing my face with soapnuts too, they are very mild but get the job done. The only issue is not being able to use any styling products because of buildup. Anyone uses a heat protectant that is soapnuts friendly? Or a straightening conditioner?
@vartika.bhagat10 ай бұрын
I don’t think styling products could be used with soapnuts, they were used in times when there were no extra hair products, not even conditioners- I prefer not using heat on my hair , but soap nut hair are quite strong enough and have a film over the cuticle . Oiling is the way we Indians have ingrained- so it’s the best way of conditioning our hair. Personally I don’t like oil on scalp, so i take 1-2 drops of light oil(coconut, almond,jojoba, sesame ) and run my hand through fine straight hair ends - works exactly like conditioner . Try heatless ways of hairstyling if possible, to keep hair healthy.

I have zero problems with fatty scalp, I can go for weeks without washing and it NEVER gets oily! The scalp gets waxy though if I would go that long without washing, but never oily. My hair strands seem to always have the scales on them standing out, if you understand what I mean? I have never been able to run my fingers through my hair, not even when I used to use products with silicones!! But now it's just horrible! I have been without silicones for about 1 1/2 years and trying to find something that works but with no luck. I have to cut everything off soon if I don't find anything that works. The problem is also that in order to be able to even comb it through I have had to use MCT-oil. Then iI t feels so much better..but then it's way more difficult to clean plus I think that even if the oil makes it feel better for the moment, I have a sneaking suspicion that it makes it worse over time. My hair just gets more and more like chewing gum. Help!🤪🤣

i use lemongrass and rosemary essential oils. and the shampoo will not go bad, with these oils in it. add them to the shampoo AFTER it's done and cooled down, then keep in a jar in the fridge. it will stay good for months and months. if you put the oils in when the stuff is boiling, it just evaporates, then you have no oils in the shampoo, and then it WILL go bad.

Making reetha more frothy is possible- soak them , boil them in same water, try not to dilute more - keep in mind the nuts to water ratio- Shaking the mixture give alot of froth. On hair which is too oily (oil treated hair) it might take alot . So prefer light oils , and use sparingly- it doesn’t strip off natural oil so you wont need exter scalp oiling anyway , oil only the ends of hair strands amd only focus reetha water on scalp.

any hints on where to buy these soap nuts? i tried to search em up on some sites but it wouldn't be that cheaper than buying common shampoo as you said (actually it would be pretty expensive in compare), so I'm wondering if i looked up the wrong sites

I was wondering if you can put it into a spray bottle and give hair a good soaking. Then get into the shower after that. Just my health is mega bad and have horrible coconut issue. This is the first time I’ve ever found a shampoo that has no coconut derivatives in it. So right now, you are my best friend ever! 💜

How this method is easy then rye flower? Here we have to first boil, mesh or squeeze and strain it but in rye flower just mix and strain, i think rye method is easier and fast then soapnut method 🙂

Honestly, I'd count this as home made shampoo instead of no-poo, but I get that nobody looks for that lol I've washed laundry with these for a few years now, I rinse with vinegar and drops of fragrance oil (instead of fabric softener) and everything comes out super soft. My laundry used to be rough and "crunchy", this was a game changer. The costs are insanely low too :) I bought several kilograms for about €35 with shipping a few *years* ago. Per chance, have you pH tested this mixture?
@lianediprima85323 жыл бұрын
Do you put the soap berries in a muslin bag and throw them in the washer? Or do you create a liquid soap from them first? And you add the vinegar and oil to the rinse cycle of your wash? Sorry for all the questions, but I've been interested in trying this out!! Saying your clothes come out super soft is amazing because we have "crunchy" laundry sometimes too, and I hate it! TIA!
@inconspicuous-nobody3 жыл бұрын
@@lianediprima8532 I put 3-5 nuts in a small drawstring baggie. I reuse them for 3-5 washes, depending on the cycle time (you can tell when they're really done though), then empty the baggie and start anew. I had a mesh one previously, but after that fell apart I started using a cotton one. An old sock will do as well. The vinegar will be the main part of the magic. Fill the rinse compartment to max! Honestly, I sometimes even add some extra to the drum, more vinegar makes things softer. It will smell horrendous, but none of the smell stays after drying, I can assure you. Then add drops of fragrance/essential oil to the vinegar, depending on the strength anywhere between 5-30 drops probably. Fragrance oils will smell nicer in general, essential oils are "natural" and supposedly less irritating but I honestly can't recommend them over fragrance oils. (I'm now busy using up those experimental purchases...) Lavender and lemon has been my favorite combo so far, I thought it would smell like old lady but it's actually very nice and not overly feminine either (bf approved). What I've tried and hasn't worked well... Bergamot and patchouli both smell like rotten clothes, sweet orange is really weak. Fragrance oils have the best smell and staying power and are very cost effective (a big bottle can last you for years.) An additional note, we don't have a dryer, and good riddance, that will destroy your clothes 10x as fast as hanging them. And dryers are notorious for the crunch. ***Edit to add, I pre-treat stains with a stain remover bar and I keep a "real" detergent around for vile jobs and cleaning around the house. I wash 30°C or 40°C (so around 85-100°F) unless it's a load of only towels and sheets. I'm happy to provide more detail :) I was so pleased when I got it right! Soft socks and towels are the best.

So you said mashing it would reduce the reuse times to 2-3 and not mashing would get 5-6 uses. couldn't you just use twice the amount of Soap Nuts to save those uses instead of mashing to get that same consistency?
