This is the worst, most annoying, most impractical bag I have ever owned in my entire life, and I have owned hundreds of bags. This one made me pledge to myself: never ever will I own another North Face bag as long as I live. It is crystal clear to me that the designers of this bag were storage-space-focused, obsessed even - but never did they really USE this bag themselves. This bag has the most weighty part, with the most used storage pockets, on the TOP. As a result, the bag is completely unbalanced, like someone with a head 12 times as heavy as the rest of their entire body. The bag falls down, whether you have that part open or closed. All the freaking time this bag wants to lay down like a lazy ass donkey. This bag wants to be horizontal. You have NO idea how annoying this is in daily use. A bag needs to be able to stand: many times a day you take a bag off your back in order to put something in it quickly or to take something out; in a store, at the cash register, in your home, at work; and then you want it to be able to stand on its own. But not this bag. This bag topples over all the time, unless you squash it between your legs with some judo-type manoeuvre, and even then. This mofo bag just does not stand on its own. It simply does not want to. The bottom part is made out of the most slippery material you have ever seen, which makes the bag slide away under its own top heavy weight on every single surface, save maybe for a thick carpet; this enhances its lying down tendencies: because the weight is so much centered in top of the bag, with the slippery bottom it pushes the bag to slip into horizontal position every time. Thing is: you NEED the bag to be VERTICAL to load it, because it is a top load style bag. The zippers suck, one I doesn’t even open properly. Honestly. It is just a complete design disaster. You simply cannot get one zipper on one side of this bag to open, for the insane amount of storage space that the zipper needs to get over, but is unable to. I could go on and on about how completely lousy this bag is. I tried to fix it myself: I glued silicon on the bottom the bag to stop it from sliding into a horizontal position, being pushed down by this moronically heavy top part, with its 5.000 pockets. I tried to fix the zippers myself. Nothing helps. This bag is SO impractical in daily use. I would never in the world recommend this bag to anyone but a corpse, since they lie down with the bag and will not use it. North face desigers do NOT USE, they DO NOT walk around with their own bags. They just don’t. They don’t have a daily user in mind, they just have someone in mind who has a pocket-quantity- fetish. And the insanity of this reviewer stuffing this bag with heavy things on the bottom, and THEN claiming it stands on its own? The only thing this bag needs is a little trick, and then... What a testament to how completely corporation-faithful we have become. Helping the company out with your review, to make a lousy product look ok? JFC.

I couldn’t agree more = admin organisation panel on the very top with the multiple and at once most heavy small tech items to store there aka charger, power bank and etc - it’s an epic fail, major design flaw indeed! This is exactly the reason I use this bag rarely and only when I need to load its full volume with some bigger heavy items as well = laptop, extra clothing, lunch box, which is not the case for EDC at all!!! For EDC I have exactly small tech only = kindle, iPad, power bank, cables, multitool, keys and wallet, and thus Kaban turns into complete disaster to use it half empty due to its major flaw with admin organisation panel on the very top

As a video editor who have used this bag for around 2 months for a lot of stuff, I must say this is a very nice bag. I carry to work everyday with a 16 inch laptop, bunch of adapters, cables, chargers, 15 inch external monitor, a full-head headphones, a trackball mouse (which is huge compared to other mouses), a bunch of hard drives, a light jacket, a book, a water bottle and a lot other small stuffs. Dont really understand all the bad comments about it. The only thing to consider not to is the waterproof. It is NOT waterproof at any rate, i have some light rain and it got wet into the bag for a little bit. I would recommend this bag!

@@ericma5327 I don’t. My fear is that it is being discontinued. Perhaps it didn’t sell well. Or perhaps it sold way better than expected and they are in between production runs. I just don’t know!

What about the quality problems? In the reviews you often read about tears in the zip after a short time. Are they working on a Kaban 2.1 that addresses such problems?

I haven’t had that issue with mine so far but since I review a lot of bags I have put this one in the closet and am testing other bags now.

The first kaban has the black logo. I’m disappointed both have the top zippers exposed it makes soaked inside if it rains

Wish they'd keep the original design and just improved on it to fix the weak points such as the top zippers, maybe make sidepockets slightly stretchy. ditch the laptop/phone pullup feature to save $$ and improve access to the bottom main storage and a way to hide excess straps and the original orange liner was cooler looking

I actually bought the first model (green/forest camo with a discreet logo) and two Kabytes (one black and another one in the same green/forest como). I think it's the best backpack I ever had, but they won't make that one anymore. That's too bad.

Thanks for replying. Valid constructive criticism is always appreciated. Part of the KZbin schtick is affiliate sales and one very surprising thing is that I’ve made the most money from affiliate sales from Amazon by mentioning the hero hooks. So by getting people interested about products allows creators like me to able to purchase new gear to review. It’s all a big loop. I actually don’t even disagree that perhaps I’ve gone a bit too far with this concept lately and will consider dialing back a teensy bit. Cheers!
