The North Face Presents: Pitumarca, Peru

Something is considered whole only when a collection of little things come together. Emily Harrington, Nina Williams, Matty Hong, & Jacopo Larcher travel to Pitumarca, Peru, to climb the inspiring walls of the Andes Mountains. This is a celebration of a place, a sport, a group of friends, and all of those little things.

Guy I climb with says if it has to be bolted it wasn't meant to be climbed. I hate seeing people drill into rock beautiful Rock faces.

A vast majority of rockclimbs in the world - including the most famous ones such as El Capitan in Yosemite - have bolts. Most climbers climb on routes with bolts. It's how the sport has progressed so much over the years. The bolts are invisible and super low impact for the most part which is why people don't usually think of it until they see the process involved to put them in!

Quit spreading assumptive negativity when this was actually a beautiful experience that brought people together. Doubt you even climb, climbers wouldnt have that mindset.

Hey I live pretty close to Pitumarca and was here when this was being filmed, there's a Peruvian climbing couple here that have built a relationship with the community that lives in Pitu, and Emily Harrington and her team went through them basically. Actually a lot of people here are saying they should have put the couple in the video because without them there would be no climbing in Pitu. But ultimately the community are the people who decide whether or not people can climb there
