I have the Altamesa 500 and I love the Dream foam on my dry rocky California trails. I'm a heavier, slower runner so I don't have much use for a carbon plated trail shoe, but TNF is doing some good work.

I just got a look at the Enduris 4 at TRE (and a test sample from their group run). Might be a good racing/training option for you - it has an injected TPU plate, very stable, not as aggressive as the Pro model.

Good looking out, Mike. Thanks for the head's up. Hope you enjoyed the event.

Great review. I had the first version, and in addition to needing to cut the carbon wings off to avoid the blisters, the lugs are mainly too shallow for the soggy conditions over here in Ireland. With the wings cut off they were close to perfect on dry terrain. The X3s with the deeper lugs work better over here.

Just did Kodiak 100K - had no issues with the wings. I felt them, but no irritation. Seems like a hit or miss issue.

Great race. I have the Vectiv Enduris 3 and really like it as a Daily Trainer. Also have the Adidas Terrex Agravic Speed Ultra which really has a terrible upper. Good to hear North Face is doing better in that department.

Great review, love the race footage and commentary. I know the crash was unfortunate, however it adds to the realism to the review. the camera footage and sound was good as well, what was you using to film?
@MikeP-RTR2 ай бұрын
Insta360 GO 3S. It does a pretty good job most of the time but sometimes I have trouble with the auto exposure. It's hard because sometimes I can only get out in the afternoon, as you can tell- full exposure, so very bright sun, not ideal for filming. Have to use ND filters, play with settings, and do the best I can.

Looking forward to the shoe-off! And good shorts tip. Also, I assume you are true-to-size in both the TNF & Hoka, but what about the Speed Ultra? As the LT100 winner did, I went down a full size to get the best lockdown...

I've got 10.0 for all 3 which is my typical-ultra sizing. My TTS is 9.5 for "regular" running. Honestly the Speed Ultra fit is hard to pin down, I think* I might be ok at 9.5 but the toebox is a bit angular up front - I do have extra length with the 10. I wish it was more rounded at the toes then I'd likely size down, which doesn't necessarily make sense. I'll try them all side by side again to get a better handle on the fits.

Tried the Tecton X3 and Agravic Ultra and they were both too narrow for my feet. Bit the bullet and bought of the Vectiv Pro 2s and they fit my wife food. I will be using them for Kodiak 100m this Friday. They feel great! Although my favorite feel was the tecton x3, unfortunately hokas always fit narrow for me

What a cool review! Which supershoe would you pick for steep technical ultras with lots of elevation gain/loss, where stability and comfort are key?
@MikeP-RTR2 ай бұрын
Stability and comfort don't necessarily go hand in hand for steep technical ultras. You'd typically have to skew in one direction or another based on your preference. That being said - Vectiv Pro 2 has the most secure upper so that's the main advantage for stability. They're not as cushioned and "comfortable" as the other supershoes, but still quite a bit of stack. The firmer ride also provides more inherent stability.

Very curious about this shoe since I have the Tecton X 3 which I absolutely love and the Agravic Speed Ultra which I really like very much but not quite as much as the Hoka. Not sure I can justify adding another plated trail supershoe at this point even though the Vectiv Pro 2 is indeed very intriguing and well suited for the types of trails I run in SoCal. I'm concerned about the plate wings rubbing against the bottom/side of my slightly wide-ish forefoot. I'm also very intrigued by the upcoming Norda 005, so I'll wait and see what that's like, but the VP2 will stay on my radar for sure.
@MikeP-RTR2 ай бұрын
That's a concern, as shown in the video. Although some people have had success with cutting or trimming down those wings apparently. As of now, I'm not attempting that.

@@MikeP-RTR Finally got the Vectiv Pro 2 and took it out on the first run (10 miles) today and it was awesome. I understand what you mean about this shoe's propulsion. It's got an extra gear. I got it half-size up but it's a bit roomy, so I wore thick socks (Balega Blister Free) and that was fine, but I'm between sizes so TTS should be fine and I found the same IKF white colorway you have on sale so I ordered that too. Haha. I can wear thinner socks with that one. I've had no issue with the plate wings although I can slightly feel it a bit on my left forefoot's lateral side. I must say, for all-out speed on the trails, this just may be the one although Pro 3 is now just around the corner. Haha. The Tecton X 3 is softer and bouncier but I really love the balanced feel and ride of the Vectiv Pro 2. Looking forward to your "shootout" between this, Tecton X 3, and the Agravic Speed Ultra! BTW, really like your energetic and nimble running style!

@@alexkhan2000 Just got a look at the Vectiv Pro 3 coming out in January. Very cool! Btw - I'm currently testing 005 too! Amazing shoe, different from these 3 supershoes though.

@@MikeP-RTR Ah, just when I think I’ve got everything I need! Doesn’t seem I’ll be able to resist the Pro 3 and the Norda 005. Looking forward to your review about this new Norda!

Put a Megagrip outsole with 4mm lugs on this bad boy and I would buy it in an instant. TNF rubber is not very durable or grippy.
@MikeP-RTR2 ай бұрын
I think the X 3 outsole on the Vectiv Pro 2 would be pretty sweet. But with the rocker and the carbon plate of the VP2, it's going to be a challenge no matter what for any outsole to contour and grip as well as a more flexible shoe. They probably just focused on weight savings here.
