This film is so freaking good that after I watched it for the first time in my local cinema, I went there two days after to watch it again. I would do everything to watch this on the big screen for a third time. Excellent analysis. Totally agree with everything you said in this video and you managed to capture my thoughts on the film perfectly. Keep up the good work, man!

I’m so glad u loved it like I did! I was worried before seeing it that it might be too extravagant for Eggers’ style, but it was so good. I loved it even more the second time around, and just like you I would love to see it again in theatres. It’s too bad it had an early move to VOD since it didn’t do well financially. And thank you for your kind words! I’m really glad we agree because I thought I would be alone on this one since the movie is so wild haha thanks so much for watching!

Nice work! I watched Northman yesterday and my first thoughts were that it was in part a film about free-will. I saw the visions as being a confirmation (Alignment) of his true-path. He could not have chosen differently as it would have led him away from his destiny. His temperament was set, there was no choice. Only his will vs other. (I am not familiar with the source material) Thanks! I will be back to watch more mate 👍👌
@lucasblue202 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I really like your points, there’s this constant thematic war between fate and free will, and the film seems to let you decide what’s guiding Amleth, it makes the story very engaging and tough to predict. I hope you enjoy the other videos, thank you so much for watching!!

Good talk. It's such a shame that the studio interfered to some degree, making changes to Eggers work. I wish we could see it as he originally intended. It is a great movie with fascinating themes that inspired the like of both William Shakespeare in Hamlet (my favourite of all his plays), and Richard Wagner in Der Ring des Nibelungen (the most stupendous of all operatic endeavours), which incorporates many of the same elements.
@lucasblue202 жыл бұрын
Yeah I heard there was some interference during the editing process. I’d be extremely curious to see the director’s cut. I may like that even more, I wouldn’t doubt it considering how obsessed I am with The Lighthouse. Hopefully there’s a blu-ray version of it down the road. That would be pretty sweet. I would love to do a compare and contrast video. I guess we’ll see! Thank you for watching!!

Great video! This really offers a lot of succinct explanations, especially all of the folklore behind the film. Are you still doing Killing of a Sacred Deer? Was expecting that one after Under the Skin.
@lucasblue202 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I’m so glad it was clear because this movie is pretty dense. And yes, my video for Killing of a Sacred Deer is next in the Classic Explained series. It will follow my video for the new film, Everything Everywhere All At Once. Sorry it’s taking longer than usual, I’m just setting up a lot of new things for the channel, which I think will be very much worth it! Much more to come in July! Thank you so much for keeping up!!

Two central themes of *The Northman* (2022) - 1. *prophecy of vengeance:* . Other films by director include: - The witch - The lighthouse Lucas Blue: The Northman is a comparatively "straightforward film" for this director Robert Eggers although with many motifs. . - 2. *virus of evil* *** Central *_thematic meaning_* as explained by Lucas Blue:- *"The cost of one's devotion to one's believed fate, and their surrender to the viral nature of evil."* Topic of FATE is central, as seen from opening monologue, Lucas Blue says. * .

Good review and break down! Movie of the year for me...
@lucasblue202 жыл бұрын
Yeah the movie is so great! I feel like The Batman is my number one (I’m just obsessed with the uncompromising style and flare that it brought to the superhero genre) but The Northman is a very close second (and probably the better film from a completely objective standpoint). I’m so glad you love it, thank you so much for watching!!

When my mates and I saw this in theatres we didn’t like it at all. I convinced our group to give it a second watch and we all agreed it’s a movie the grows on you with subsequent viewings. It is the quintessential Viking film and one of the top films of the year so far.

I watched this movie on premier night on theaters and it was Aweeeeesooomeeee!!! 5/5 stars!!!! Sucks not enough people watched it.. fed up of people only going to theaters for Marvel crap..
@lucasblue202 жыл бұрын
Haha I very much agree! I do enjoy a Marvel movie every now and then, but I completely understand what you mean. It’s so unfortunate. If the budget needs to be tighter for arthouse movies, that’s okay with me. It’s just a sad reality that these kind of period pieces are such a high risk investment for studios. I don’t think we’ll get many more of them anytime soon :(

@@lucasblue20 😅 you're so right, i was a bit upset and said marvel crap but i should've just said marvel material.. specially when i have enjoyed some of their last movies and a lot leading to endgame 🤭... i hope movies like this plus the last duel plus the green knight dont dissapear.. i loved those movies too, glad i got to see them in theaters, hopefully u did too 🙂

I wanted to really like this but I thought it was just ok. I guess it would have been more enjoyable if I understood all the nods to Norse mythology. I mean it was well made and all and it was cool to see movie set during that time and in those locations but the dialogue could have been better.
@lucasblue202 жыл бұрын
That’s understandable. It doesn’t have the mystique that the other two have, and I think mystique really strengthens a Robert Eggers movie (including the dialogue as you’ve mentioned). However, I did feel very entertained throughout with the cinematography and the direction. I certainly understand your criticism, all your points are fair, and thank you for watching!!

@lucasblue202 жыл бұрын
Yeah honestly the first time around, I enjoyed it but wasn’t as crazy about it as I thought I would be because it was so simplistic narratively, but the second time around it all clicked with me on what the film seemed to be going for. Everything Everywhere was just fantastic immediately haha it really hits the ground running, and I’m so glad it’s doing well financially. Umm, I found the movie to be very hollow or at the very least univolving. All this analysis didn't quite re-assure me because we're supposed to have figured it all out while watching, not on youtube weeks later. It's all so pretentious.
