I only just saw that i missec this review. I love the Norwegian Arctic rations. Everyone I've tried has been good. I think i have the chicken and rice one left in my stash. I've not tried that menu before. It looks pretty good. Ive never had a chance to try the fruit soup, I think ill keep an eye out for that menu. Real seems to make really good products Great review Mike :)

Very interesting and when I saw the video I was making some pulled pork myself

Hi Kahlest...Thanks for watching and commenting... I'm sure this isn't as good as homemade BBQ pulled pork, but for a freeze dried meal, its still pretty decent...ATB...Mick

As a USMC infantry vet, those MREs would have never worked for us. We never had hot water to mix with anything. 95% of the time we couldn’t even use the heaters that came with it. We didn’t use the spoon either, we would just squeeze it all into our mouths and eat it quickly so you didn’t have to taste it that long. As for the coffee, we would dump the packet into our mouth and then swish around some water to swallow it. The beef jerky and energy bars would have been great though.

HI..Thanks for watching and commenting... lol..I remember it well also...I'm a British Infantry Veteran, but can never admit to dumping coffee straight into the mouth, just the thought makes me cringe..lol.. more often than not our rations were eaten cold and on the run also (and back then half of it came in tins).. I suppose being for arctic conditions they are given time to ensure they get a much needed hot meal.... that said, this was a pretty good one and would certainly be welcome in those Arctic conditions...ATB..Mick

I think that's why British tanks have a very thoughtful addition.. A tea boiler. I can just see the tank providing infantry support by giving them hot water :-)

Hence arctic field rations, you would be dead without the ability to boil water anyways.

As a vet, an UN-soldier in Lebanon in the 80's, we had a few days were we use old MREs, all was without hot anything. Just tins with, imho, beef 'somethingy' was way not something I wanted to eat. Found out later, it was from WW2. Todays MREs, soooo much better!

You won't be disappointed, I have done a few now and honestly cannot remember one I actually disliked?...the occasional one might not be a favourite, because of my personal taste but I wouldn't say I found any truly awful ones...unlike a few others I could mention...My Last one from Kazakhstan instantly springs to mind..lol..ATB..Mick

Those European field rations look very tasty indeed, with awesome mains and so many delicious extras. They make U.S. MREs look very plain by comparison.
@MichaelGreenReviews Жыл бұрын
Hi..Thanks for watching and commenting...The US mres have some tasty mains (and some not so tasty..lol.) but I think the problem is they dont change the menu's for years (and most of them look and taste very similar to each other) resulting in a monotonous feeling when eating them....but they do the job of filling you...(if you dont mind all of the chemicals and preservatives that go in the US rations)...ATB...Mick
@minhducnguyen92765 ай бұрын
@@MichaelGreenReviews Most European MREs have stew as the main dish. And the logic behind it is it can always be heated with fire without fear of burning the food thanks to the high water content. Some European MRE even have both option of using the chemical heater and fuel tablets. The US MREs apparently are designed without using fire in mind. They can be boiled but US soldiers are not given fuel tablets anyway.

"Real" in Norwegian means "Decent" and is Pronounced "Re-Al". The bottom of the pouch can be popped out to provide a bigger footprint and gives acess to the food hiding there, making the stirring easier and the spoon intact.

Never seen the package de-laminate like that before on a Norwegian ration(I've seen many of them, old and new). I can only guess storage conditions is the cause.

This actually looks like a really good meal; love the ones you'll find in other countries. I've had a lot of them from Canada, Germany, France and Russia and have to say there's so much in these. Definitely will try the Norwegian one soon......you do a good presentation as well!

Most Norwegians prefer their coffee black. There's of course exceptions, but they're rare, at least outside of the cities where people often like fancier coffees.

Helloooooo Mick! Glad to hear your voice again. Good looking meal. I have never seen delamination on these either? Internal components look good however. The fruit soup, last time I used hot water, people said to use cool. I am unsure which is correct? LOL. I agree with you on that brand of coffee. Other components seemed to have turned out quite well. You did not go hungry, I am glad to see. Great ration and review. If you need me, yell. Peace, John.

I am pretty sure the energy drink shows the required amount for drinking (around 3 dl). I like most of these rations, but the pulled pork isn't a favorite. That said - when hungry, I will eat any of them.

@@almost_harmless Black coffee is so prevalent here in Norway that out unofficial national drink is black coffee and moonshine, aka "karsk".
@almost_harmless4 ай бұрын
@@DivineFalcon That is mostly in the Trondheim area, as far as I know, but yeah, I have heard of it :D
@tessjuel4 ай бұрын
@@almost_harmless Oh no! The name "karsk" is from Trøndelag, yes, but the brew is traditional further south too. It's called "kaffedoktor" down here but it's the same thing. --- For those who want the recipe: 1. Put a coin in the bottom of a cup. 2. Fill with pitch black coffee until you can't see the coin. 3. Top it up with 80 or 120 proof (40% or 60%) moonshine until you see the coin again. 4. Remove coin before drinking.
