I was playing football in SC during this time. Golson name was brought up a lot. They won the state championship in 2010 by beating South Pointe which had Jadeveon Clowney. I know you all know but Clowney was insane in high school. They beat us in the playoffs that year. It was clear Clowney was a D1 player if I ever seen one in person. They use to line him up everywhere.

I am in COMPLETE shock!!!! MattBeGreat is doing a video on an ND player!!!! Hey, if you start running low on CFB players to do a story on, here's a suggestion.... Do a video on Rudy! That should be short and entertaining. He and I were in the same class at ND (Class of 76). I knew him but only casually. I saw him in the gym at the ACC occasionally. I asked him for a few tips on walking on to the team because it was my intention to walk on my Senior year (he had already walked on to the team our Junior year). The tips didn't help. When I tried out, I was told to leave after 20 minutes. I was trying out for Running Back and I ran a 4.6 (What they did not show in the movie is that the FIRST thing they did with Walk Ons was to time them in the 40; at ND, like every good CFB school, they know that "speed kills"). I still remember what one of the assistant coaches told me: "Son, we have defensive ends running 4.9s" (He was talking about Ross Browner and Willie Fry, our incredible DEs at that time). ND was good back then. We won the NC the following year. ND took Texas apart in the Cotton Bowl for the NC. Years later, I tried to warn Rudy about shady stock promoters, but he wouldn't listen. His fame had gone to his head by then. The stock promoters he had hired were crooks and they did a Pump-and-Dump on his stock. He could have avoided all the trouble he got into if he had only been willing to listen to the people trying to help him.

Something you didn't bring up in this video as an ND fan Matt is that Golson was one of 4 key players on that 2012 ND team that got caught cheating on tests and having Grad Assistant staff members doing homework for them. Golson and 3 others were suspended for a season and ND was forced by the NCAA to vacate that entire season. So even if we beat Bama, our championship wouldn't count

Those were ACC refs in the Florida State game who robbed the visiting Irish of the win. And ND should be applauded for self reporting the academic cheating and suspending Golson. The concept of student-athletics (not NFL minor league) still lives at Notre Dame. Instead they were further punitively punished by the NCAA by having 2 years of wins vacated from their record. Would that have happened to Bama, Ohio State or Texas…I think not.

That 2012 season was a farce anyways because Ohio state was suspended from postseason play for literally no reason today it would not even be a file on it, and would have either taken Notre Dame spot or Alabama spot personally it should have been Alabama's spot since then lost on the field to Ole Miss I believe, even though Alabama was significantly better than irish, and probably would have handled my Buckeyes that year as well.
