I owen this beauty myself and I love this thing. It is not perfekt. But it hase a good sweet spot and the technology with E-Ink color is not as far as it will get some time in the future. It super portable, it does not hurt the eyes even using it for hours. And notetaking is great for all things only take space (nothing will beat a real fountain pen or pencil on paper but for lectures, work, quick notes or calculations it is more convient not to burn 100s of sheets of paper). The color was a big surprise, I need it for a lot of books where gryscale do not match the purpose anymore. There are better options but they came with draw backs in portability and weight. So in my case I need a big screen and this on top and use both at least two hour a day. I got the first boox with note taking up to this Nova Air C and it is amazing to watch how this things get better in super speed. The color could be better, also the contrast but it is by far not as bad as most people thing. Some guys asked me why my tablet has a deley while scrolling (in HD mode) and did not even noticed that it is a E-Ink device. So it is a great step upward in usebility. Only real books are better but in my case it is not an option to buy or lean as much books as I need to use and also not to carry a bundle of 3 or 4 kilos on top on notes and Laptop if I just can replace it in most cases with such a small device. But the clasic E-reader for just read a roman, novel or general textbooks (without scientific content) has it spot for a lot of people. Black and white with 300 ppi and a brilliant contrast in a portable fashion for much less money is not to replace in a lot of use cases. (for this device I got 4 updates since it was released...)

Three other readers that use the 7.8-in Kaliedo 2 color e-ink display are Bigme S6 for $529, Pocketbook InkPad Color for $329, and Mobiscribe Wave Color for $320.
@jeffreymoss Жыл бұрын
Thank you for that. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe only the Bigme S6 has access to Android apps. And since the Bigme is more expensive, I still think the Nova Air C is the go-to as an eReader.

A tip for the case: I had the exact same problem with my Kindle cases. What I did was stick magnets onto the front and the back of the case so when I folded it back, the magnets would stick together and keep the covers aligned. I know you may be uneasy using magnets close to your device so you can always use those little velcro dots if you prefer, although they may not look as nice. (I read a bunch of articles and watched a bunch of vids about small neodymium magnets put in close proximity to Kindles and iPhones before I used those magnets for my Kindle case. My gadgets are still fine now, after a few weeks. I wouldn't put it the magnets near my laptop though).

I have the bigme K2 and Bigme K3, and the colors are fairly the same. The clarity, though, is much better. Interesting maybe the K2 on cell is better in color vibrancy than normal kaleido, even K3...I think the calibration of the screen or the approach of the bigme K3 is not correct and need software updates to correct the colors.

Hi, does the nova air c have the latest 3.5 boox firmware yet? I may buy this tablet used this weekend. Boox website mentions it will get 3.5 but don't say when.

Interesting video on the Air C. I was seriously thinking of getting it two months ago, but decided against it cos the form factor looks like it’s stuck in 2016… 😂 I’m not sure but I’ve a strong feeling the user experience for color eink is better on a Tab series, as the GPU will improve the overall speed.. still waiting for a Tab C device to be launched..

We shall see. I think if a person was looking for an all-in-one device (notetaker, eReader, and more) then a Boox Tab Ultra with a color screen would be a good choice -- if that comes to pass. I still like the Nova Air C though because I prefer to read one-handed, but that's just a personal preference.

I have question ito security. Do you run a standard Firewall program (such as Bitdefender my current go to) on your e-reader tablets. If yes, have you quantified the resource drain?, if not, should you not (have an anti virus program) since this is an android device? fyi, my Bigme Inknote Color+ should arrive tomorrow and I appreciated your review on it.
@jeffreymoss Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment on my review. I'm still enjoying my Bigme Inknote Color+, and I hope you do too. But if not, or you find you disagree with anything in my video, just let me know, I'm open to other perspectives. In terms of security, I don't run a firewall nor do I have anti virus. I do have these things on my computers, but not on this device or my other eNotetakers. I really don't do anything but update firmware, occasionally write notes, and read using standard apps, so I don't worry about additional protection. In fact, most of the time I leave wifi off just to save battery. If I did web browsing or e-mail, things like that, I'd be more concerned.

@@jeffreymoss thanks for the input. So far I am very impressed with the device. The screen is much faster than I was expecting. So much so that I am setting it up like I would a tablet. It is doing all the colour ereader things that I wanted and then some. I have proceeded to load Bitdefender and it is working without a hitch

And on the theme of corrections, I really meant to indicate this is my go-to eReader, not my go-to eNotetaker. I prefer to take notes on a 10" screen. But for reading, I love the weight/size balance of an 8" screen. Not my best video, but it should still be helpful to those considering the device.

Thanks for the overview and the comparison with Kaleido 3 - very helpful. I'm extremely interested in the Nova Air C, but with the recent release of the Tab Ultra C (and Onyx's overzealous release schedule in general) I'm not sure if we are likely to see an update to the 7.8" Boox with Kaleido 3 in the near future. Do you have any thoughts?
@jeffreymoss Жыл бұрын
That's an interesting question. Based on recent history, I expected an update to the Nova Air C in Feb. or Mar., but that didn't happen. As you noted, that's an unusual thing for Boox. I don't know if this is true, but it might be because of supply issues and limitations on eInk screen production. For example, it's interesting to see 8" gallery devices coming out, and 10" Kaliedo 3 devices coming out, but no other combinations when I believe each technology can scale to other screen sizes. So perhaps Boox hasn't released an update simply because they can't get 8" K3 screens in enough volumes. But that won't always be the case. I guess the short answer to your question is that there will be an updated 8" device released by Boox, the only question is when. The most likely release windows would be in the fall or next spring. But we won't know until an announcement is made just prior to release of the devices.

Hi Jeffrey, I am so outdated that i didn't even know eInk until recently. I never owned one but now i feel the need for it. Will you advice me if Nova Air C is suitable for my need? I've been considering this for quite some time already. My needs are 1. Replacement for paper and pen 2. Hopefully i can copy paste what I've written 3. Write on the page then when i ran out of space, i can just go to the next page and continue writing (like a real notebook) 4. Do sketch presentation through online meeting, e.g. can i mirror to my Macbook in real-time and share my macbook screen during meetings? 5. Colors (just a few during presentation) 6. Probably zoom in and out when sketching or writing Thank you so much 🙏
@jeffreymoss Жыл бұрын
Ok, here is my 2 cents. Because you are more focused on notetaking and presenting, as opposed to reading, then I think the 10" category is a better fit for your needs. There aren't many devices out there with color in that size, in fact it may be down to two: the Bigme Inknote Color+ and the Boox Tab Ultra C. I think both devices will meet your needs, but the Boox device provides more functionality and is cheaper, so I'd recommend that to you. However, I would advise to purchase that through Amazon as opposed to Boox itself, in case you want to return the device. Amazon has the device listed but does have a long release window (1-2 months last I checked) but I'd still advise buying there. Let me know if you have any further questions.

With higher color PPI (newer Kaleido tech) comes a darker/redder screen. I actually prefer the overall whiter presentation of the Nova Air C. It is fewer colors, maybe, but those colors are higher in contrast. I would buy a color eink for clarity in menus and basic images but would still want the standard white and black while reading text in mono mode. These new colors techs including Galy just look really, really bad to me and the tradeoffs are not great. Or, Bigme as a company just isn't doing the new tech justice (K3 and G3). I don't think I will buy anything from them. Thanks for the comparison.

Hi, Do you think this screen size is sufficient for reading and writing, or is a larger size better? thanks
@jeffreymoss Жыл бұрын
I don't like to write notes on devices 8" or less. I really like the 10" devices for notes, and the 8" devices for reading. Not everyone feels that way, but that's my 2 cents.
@xescolin Жыл бұрын
@@jeffreymoss why don´t you like writing on devices 8""? Thanks.
@jeffreymoss Жыл бұрын
@@xescolin It's just too cramped for me. If I'm doing a to-do list, or something like that, then an 8" screen is probably fine. But if I'm writing sentences or drawing diagrams, or taking notes and then jotting down side notes to my notes (yes, this is something I actually do), 10" is a way better screen size for me. 13", which is close to the size of standard paper, would be even better, but I think the trade-offs between the size, portability and other factors means that the 10" is still a better fit for me overall. I tired the Max Lumi II once and did not care for the experience.

@@jeffreymoss Hi again, I love your videos and I really appreciate your explanation because I've been wanting to buy an e-reader for a while now, but for different reasons, I haven't made up my mind: price, size of the device, weight...... In my case, I would primarily use the e-reader for reading books, as well as economic documents, making annotations in books, and taking notes, although not extensive writing. So, do you think a 7.8-inch device would be enough for me, or would a 10-inch one be better? Thanks.
@jeffreymoss Жыл бұрын
Once you start moving into annotations and notes, I really think you should look at 10" devices. If weight is a concern, you may want to pivot to something like the Note Air 2+ or even an earlier iteration. If you really need color, then it would either be the Bigme Inknote Color+ or the Boox Tab Ultra C. All are great devices, but if you plan to do a lot of reading I'd focus on the weight of each device as a key factor. Unless you plan to read two-handed, or to prop up the device and read from there, in which case the weight would be less of a factor. But I like to hold my device when reading, and weight really matters. Even with my 8" devices, I'll pull the cover off when I read just to shed the extra weight.

It should be at least 30% faster

I'm pretty happy with the response rate, but I understand that there are faster devices out there. For some folks this won't mean much and for others it will stick out as a negative.
