In other words is this a viable backup of your data in the event you need to recover something, or even an older version of something, assuming there is some sort of versioning going on somewhere

I agree. As I reflect on it, Boox really nailed the hardware piece, but could have done more with the software if they wanted to take away RM2 folks. Kind of a missed opportunity in my mind.

Great walkthrough. I was actually planning to do a similar video myself. Boox is great, but I think it's definitely an enthusiast device. It's definitely worth people watching a walkthrough like this because a lot of features aren't intuitive. I've been playing with mine for over a week now. Most normies would probably be happier with a Remarkable or Supernote.
@jeffreymoss
@jeffreymoss 16 сағат бұрын
Yeah, on one hand, if you simply wanted to read something or just start taking notes, you can do that on the Boox and not have to engage the complexity. But there's still a learning curve there and Boox could have done more with the UI to make things more engaging for users who don't want to be overwhelmed by so many choices.

Can we make annotations in kindle app like taking notes on books
@jeffreymoss
@jeffreymoss 16 сағат бұрын
Not that I'm aware of. The Kindle app doesn't natively allow for that when using an Android device, and Boox doesn't have Global Handwriting like Bigme has which would allow for that. You could do screenshots with annotations, but that's a big workaround, and of course you just get images by doing that, not actual annotations with links.

What is your favorite hand writing experience on all tablets you've reviewed? So the writing experience is far greater on the SN for note taking? The boox is if you like writing with a pencil
@jeffreymoss
@jeffreymoss 16 сағат бұрын
That's hard to say. I really like using a ceramic nib stylus on the Supernote A5X. It's hard to explain why; there's a tapping sound when writing that I like. I also like devices with writing films on them which give a scratchy sound. The Note Air 3C and the Bigme Inknote Color+ both come to mind with different, but both satisfying sounds. The Remarkable 2 makes a decent sound as well. Most other devices are fine but don't stand out to me. I think the notetaking experience on the Supernote is the best out there but I'm not sure I'd say that about the writing experience. A lot of devices give a good writing experience in my mind, Supernote included.

@jeffreymoss yea, I just got the SN Nomad & really enjoy the writing experience cuz it's not like writing on glass It's soft like a pad of paper. I'm hesitant to buy the GO 10.3 cuz I'm not sure I'm gonna like the pencil writing experience combined with a harder surface

Jeff, question. If I want to export a file to print to paper. Would it be best to set the file as PDF Bitmap? I didn't know there was an alternative PDF file. Currently on the RM2 when I export a file I just export it to PDF and then print to paper from that exported file. I hope that's clear. Thanks again for this video! Just what I needed for I am new to Boox devices. Mine comes in tomorrow.

I could be wrong, but I'm guessing the "Associate Notes" section should be titled "Associated Notes" for Notes that are linked to documents in NeoReader, which is a function where you can create a notebook to pair with a document in NeoReader (At least on 3.5.1, I'm assuming it's similar on 3.5.3).

I wanna know if you don't mind. the screen is different between the boox note air 3 and Boox Go 10.3. I mean not the color, as far as I know the boox note air 3 has the pre-installed screen protector that make to get paper like feeling in note taking and can remove with hand easily. This is the one thing I don't like. I think it is no premium setup. so, in boox go 10.3, it has a screen protector or non-removable paper-like screen. Also I wanna know also, in low light conditions, the Boox goes 10.3's brightness, what happens with the screen brightness when you use it in low light situations?
@jeffreymoss
@jeffreymoss Күн бұрын
There's no film on the Go 10.3. One viewer noted that the glass was etched which is what gave the writing a scratchy sound, but there's no film. I haven't tested this theory, but I think if you can read a book in the lighting situation where you want to read, then you should be able to use the Go 10.3 despite having no front lighting. I'll test that a bit and talk to that in part III.

Hi, I not agree with "a front light is essential for a e-ink device"... Not in my case... There are light bulbs, and if there isn't, maybe it's not the right time to read o take notes. Books does not have it and they were a pretty decent device for reading since ages ;) The lack of a front light permits a closer distance between the surface and the e-ink... wich is a great advantage. It's, in my opinion, a "nice to have" but no "essential". Very good video.
@jeffreymoss
@jeffreymoss Күн бұрын
Yeah, I don't disagree. My point is that it depends on your lighting situation. In my experience, lighting isn't always ideal in the places where I read, but that's not going to be true for everyone. I guess one way to think about it is that if you can read a book at a given location, then you should be able to read the Go 10.3 as well.

Hi Jeffrey! Always, a pleasure and truly enjoyed your "VisualTour", well done and informative. I do have a question, but it's not regarding the software but more on the physical aspect of the device. @Peepeh 3 күн бұрын
I got my Go 10.3 a few days ago, so if you don't mind, I will chime in. I assume you are asking because a lot of people are saying there is glue at the edge of the PU leather. I don’t see a problem with it. There are two of these devices in my house, and both are perfect. I wonder if people are complaining because there is a lip edging the leather. It is not glue; it must be plastic and it is very intentional. You can barely feel it with your fingers, but I love how it gives a bit of grip to the back edge of the tablet. People are complaining about it because it is not completely flush. There are thousands of products with very intentional and noticeable ridges, lips, etc., and those serve a purpose. My guess is this hard lip protects the edge of the leather from peeling off from daily use, or from curious fingernails obsessing over it and detaching the material. In my honest opinion, it looks great. I inspected it with a magnifying glass, and it looks very well implemented.
@jeffreymoss
@jeffreymoss 3 күн бұрын
I'll second this. There is an intentional lip around the perimeter of the back edge that does give a bit of an odd feeling as you brush your fingers against it. I'm not a fan, but it doesn't bother me much either. I haven't noticed any actual issues with the build quality.

Thanks for your video; again and as always highly informative, well balanced without being shy about giving your personal opinion still. I really appreciate that! As for the question whether Remarkable should feel pressed: I always loved the slimness and beauty of the RM2 design, it is just so nice to write on that thing, but since I am heavily invested in the Boox universe (having a Poke5, a Nova Air 2, a Note Air 3 C, an old Max2, and a TabX), this for me is the perfect device. It is just as beautiful as the RM2, yet even slimmer (and without the anti-glide bumps on the RM2 that annoyed me, although I see what they are intended for), it also has the directness of the lines under my pen tip, but as a huge advantage it synchs my notes and reading progress with all my other devices. I was thinking about getting a RM3 if that was ever going to be a thing, but now the Go 10.3 makes even more sense to me, so I will probably continue for some years to use the Supernote platform for my leisure reading of fiction and private journaling, and my Boox devices for professional reading as a (copy) editor where I need to make many notes (often in split view mode) and annotations to/note on primarily PDFs.
