I believe nearly everyone is looking at the robot race incorrectly. Robots, including robot cars, are going to be no different than any other device that has come out in the past many decades. The HARDWARE will standardize around the OPERATING SYSTEMS that power them. The operating system is key to who wins. Operating systems used to be worth billions but now it is the software and ecosystems that ride on top of the operating systems that generate billions (think Apple, Microsoft, and Google). AI driven cars and robots are going to create incredible value for the games, services, and products that get created for the new platform. Creating the robot hardware seems important and is important but that's not were the majority of high margin money is going to be made. But it is were some real money will be LOST because only a handful of those currently trying to solve the hardware problem will survive. (I think Tesla and Elon have the approach, the engineers, the data, and the super compute needed to win the embodied AI race. And the manufacturing prowess to build millions of robots, both cars and humanoids.)
