So many promising books. Quite a few are on my TBR list. I'm reading All Fours now: uninhibited and funny. I'm also in the middle of Praiseworthy: I'm reading it in slices as it's a bit challenging, but very rewarding. The style is Homeric: very poetic with lots of phrases that keep returning, it probably should be declaimed. You definitely have to read Beautyland: quirky and moving., you'll love it. I haven't read The Familiar yet, but I'm going to, as The Ninth House was such a fun read. Tana French's thrillers are the best in the genre. Her characters are so good. This is good and diverse list I think.

I've only read 25 of the NY Times 100 but have 7 more firmly on my wish list, plus I will consider others. Meanwhile, I am enjoying Niall Williams' Time of the Child, a sequel to his wonderful book "This Is Happiness." Also just started listening to Zoe Schlanger reading her book The Light Eaters, nonfiction about plant 'intelligence'. Whisk in hand, I am working my way through Judy Rodgers' The Zuni Cafe Cookbook: really a tutorial, with recipes offering options with when-to and why-to tips. Meanwhile, I have the ebook of Mary Gaitskill's Veronica in my phone and I am frankly appalled when the short lines at the post office do not help me to sneak-read more of my backlist! I expect this to 'improve' in December!🤣

empusim is a book I am appreciating as literature, however it is classicaly written (or translated). it styles like withering heights. I am two thirds though and will finish it. It feels, to me like a good lit. class book. not for me but you might like it.

About 15 years ago Henry Louis Gates, Jr participated in the famous beer summit hosted by then President Barak Obama. The noted author Ta-Nehisi Coates has had several disagreements with the noted Harvard scholar, who tends to see the difficulty of being black in America within a wider Class Struggle. Of course in that I tend to see a generational conflict. Recently he has received encouragement to run for office, for what that's worth.

Another somewhat surprisingly eclectic list. I’ve read about 40 of them and there are only I’d like to read. Missing some of my favorites of the gear for sure.
