big ups to slagel! the school bus went from the flats up Topanga to summer camp, passing a big killers window display- first time we saw/ heard of maiden/ Eddie and our lives would never be the same again. Once we got courage enough to go inside the incense smelling, bondage gear selling tiny shop, big dog behind the counter told us about trippy dude nagby's metal night at country club, sold us the zine (2nd or 3rd issue?), and Belgium's acid album. Game changing is a vast understatement. ... the first slayer and Metallica country club gigs can only be truly understood by those who were there. Thank you Mr slagel

No discussion on Cannibal Corpse. Ok. But not even a mention of GWAR. No GWAR?!?! They did so many albums on Metal Blade.. and the hardcore connect. Can't fathom their exclusion from the reminiscing. Was hoping to hear about how they got on the label and the approach to releasing their stuff at that pivotal time..
