I thought that for a long time... but check out Pentatonix. They have almost made me forget how great the Nylons were in the 90's.

Alan Switzer I've heard the Pentatonix and they aren't bad, but they lack the power and dynamic range of the Nylons, or Rockapella.

F. Dustin Peace And now I've listened to some of their more recent work. They got better, of course.

I was in an a cappella band in Taiwan. We did The Nylons version of this song before a Canada Day crowd of more than 1,000 people. The biggest compliment we ever got was when a couple of girl told us they loved the song and asked for our autographs. They thought we WERE The Nylons. Must have been the Molson's Canadian - or sun stroke ;)

The Nylons from my hometown Toronto were founded in 1978. Acapella was not a popular pop music thing. I am grateful for GLEE and Pitch Perfect and the Pentatonix for bringing back this old tradition.

Solomon Popoli Linda (1909[1] - 8 October 1962), also known as Solomon Ntsele ("Linda" was his clan name),[2] was a South African Zulu musician, singer and composer of the song "Mbube", which later became the popular music success "The Lion Sleeps Tonight", and gave its name to the Mbube style of isicathamiya a cappella later popularized by Ladysmith Black Mambazo.[3]

I saw the Tranna-based Nylons in concert three times, in Vancouver BC at the beginning of the 80s. Always an excellent show. Worth noting that I saw them singing in Stanley Park, outdoors, singing a capella and they were dead-on. Not so easy, eh?

I met Paul, Marc, Claude and Arnold in 87 or 88 backstage after a concert at an Outdoor Theater by the Arkansas River in Tulsa. Poor Paul was sweating profusely and cussing the Oklahoma heat even though the Sun had gone down. All four were kind enough to sign my albums and spend a minute with a smile and a bit of conversation. They literally had just got off the stage and were looking for water, air conditioning and thing cool! The performance was GREAT as our group who went to the show after the sixth or seventh song shouted out in unison: PLEASE!!!!!!!!! Between songs. Virtually no one in the crowd knew why we had done so but Marc made a comment. Something like "oh, there are four or five people who know us ... " and in a devilish voice and way said "we love it when you have to beg!" Something like that. The Nylons were never huge in Oklahoma but there were a few of us who discovered them and kept coming back for more! For that brief blistering hot moment the four Nylons were cordial, kind, appreciative and dare I say? Happy Together.

My first boyfriend, ten years my senior, was a big Nylons fan. We dated in 1984, the year of my coming out. The Nylons' third album had just been released. My boyfriend was very aware this band was all gay, and wore a sexy mustache too, which was fashionable in those days. I experienced a great summer. Tina Turner came with her album Private Dancer. He taped it for me on cassette. After that summer I never saw my, by then, exboyfriend again. He had moved to a big city. I was not nowhere near ready for such a gay challenging life, and stayed living with my parents untill a couple of years later, when I started my independent life too. Often I have googled his name, but I don't get any results. Sometimes I think he could have died from AIDS. Many of my friends have.
