The O'Jays were from Canton, Ohio, but they lived close as about 150 miles from Detroit, Michigan, so it makes sense that they used Detroit musicians on this one, as Mike Terry was the arranger, and he made a number of recordings for Motown and the rival Detroit labels Revilot and Karen/Carla Records. Motown was hot in 1965-66, so they tried it out for size and sounded just like they came out of the Motown recording studio perfectly.

All those baritone sax parts in early Motown? That's Mike Terry. That's his sax in this joint.

@@alanwilson8407 He knows that because many people who are into this type of music are proper anoraks 👍 Some can tell you how numbers are left in the run-out, either stamped or scratched in; some can tell you what that number is 😳 Knowing Mike Terry has been involved in a record is a sure fire indicator the record is going to be a goodun... useful when buying blind. The knowledge that many would deem to be taking anorak attitudes to the next level is more than initially meets the eye. For example, on one record a small X is stamped underneath a label that can be felt with the fingertips. Being erudite in such matters would allow you to determine if it's a £10 bootleg or a £100 original in this example. Some bootlegs are almost identical to the original save one tiny difference. Unless you know what that difference is you could end up with a box containing more bootlegs than originals. Good grief... reading that back made me realise that I'm one of those anoraks 😆 There's an extremely high chance of Willcat knowing the record with the X underneath the label. They would probably understand this... KTF ✊️
