After watching enough of your Vintage content, I'm convinced every MTGO Vintage player is playing while at work and simply does not have the time to sit around to see if they are going to actually lose or not. It's amazing to watch.

Vintage snowballs so hard that if your opponent has significantly more cards than you it's safe to say your dead. Even if you aren't deterministically dead and maybe even 10% to be in it still its life equity to just spare everyone the clicks

I know. Just being playful :). Trust me, I play enough Vintage Cube and am super fast to the trigger on conceding. I am the person I wrote this about haha.

My experience with Oath mirrors your own. I played it in a localish charity 1k and did very well against the frogs and fair decks, but got creamed by doomsday (and awful mulligans). If I had to play it again, I think Consign to Memory would be pretty good in the main (-1 Show & Tell, +1 Consign) and then get a free slot in the board as well.

Against Jewel in R1 I think I would keep the top and board out Island. Citadel+Top is one of your most potent combos (that doesn't require passing the turn) and I think keeping that in the deck is important despite the Null Rod nonbo. I also typically board down to 1 Show and Tell because it's so volatile in the matchup and I can tutor for it in edge cases. Just my $0.02.

At the end of round 2 (commenting before round 3), you said "I feel on top of the world and deep in the underworld" I am now fully expecting an Initiative match-up so you can be deep in the undercity too

35:33 their hand DID have artifact things. They had a line to vault key. So can't say your decision was wrong on those grounds. Perhaps there was a better angle to counter that line, but hard to say your choice was bad. Also funny you were like is Esper PO still a deck? Why yes, yes it is lol. Also, maybe it's just 'win more', but PO picking up a fist full of artifacts to discard to frog would be nuts. Could probably one shot your opponents

Wotc really needs to allow proxies for reserved list. I’d love to play legacy or vintage at eternal weekend. I could always use counterfeits, but I’d rather not risk it.

Has Valgavoth seen any traction in oath sideboards yet? His hate on graveyards has been huge in the formats I’ve tried him on but I haven’t touched vintage in a while.
@BoshNRollАй бұрын
It’s obviously great if it’s in play vs a graveyard deck, but you don’t get to pick what comes out of Oath or what’s in your hand with Show. I like normalizing expectations and building a plan around always seeing 10 cards whenever my thing works.

The point you made about eternal formats at the end of the video is true, but I got a chuckle at the idea of playing eternal formats to ‘save money’ as a broke college kid. that IS an aspect that has certainly changed lol. as a broke college kid, the idea of playing paper eternal formats is very funny
@BoshNRollАй бұрын
Yeah times have changed a lot. When I was in college you could buy into a Legacy deck for the cost of 1-2 Standard decks. After a few months of Standard rotation, you could have a set of fetches/duals/forces instead. Paid for itself very quickly if you didn't care about PTQing.

Why no blightsteel colossus? Can be brought with oath and tinker and is a faster timer then others
@BoshNRoll26 күн бұрын
Blightsteel has been too slow for the format for a few years. I had Sphinx of the Steel Wind in the sideboard for the overlap you described, but it doesn't line up how I'd want against the current metagame.
@Snake9332Ай бұрын
R1g1, did you think to tutor Lotus and try to go double Oath? I know it's probably not powerful enough, but that was a line I saw. Unless I'm completely crazy 😅
@nousernameleft999Ай бұрын
huh. the abrupt decay on trinisphere just seems way too dangerous circa 15:20 i am not an expert even remotely but i feel like I'm destroying the trinisphere either after deploying null rod successfully or eot with the plan to untap and cast null rod backed by fluster
@nousernameleft999Ай бұрын
for the latter the sequencing is vamp tutor instead of abrupt decay, let one extra turn cycle pass and then abrupt decay followed by fluster backed rod
@Dreg_sАй бұрын
Anyone else remember this deck from last time?
@vex_dkАй бұрын
why no main deck null rod anymore if you are afraid of jewel and breach?
@BoshNRollАй бұрын
Because that card was bad in 80+% of matchups and it wasn't worth that cost overall. You can play cards like Consign and Thoughtseize that have wide application and still cover the weak spots.
@SjorsTrompАй бұрын
You boarded out Mana Crypt when you board in null rod, why not board out Mox Ruby instead?
@BoshNRollАй бұрын
Because Ruby doesn't kill me when Null Rod is in play.

Why dont you put into the flood maw, I think its a great sideboard card it works as a bounce with an oath trigger after gifting the fish even against non creature decks
@BoshNRollАй бұрын
There's like 7 cards I'd like to put in 1 slot in the deck. Just trying the different options based on what I'm worried about.
@sapphstarАй бұрын
Does this deck really need four atraxa?
@BoshNRollАй бұрын
This build does. There are other versions that play fewer/different monsters. But you have to adjust all the support slots to account for those changes.
@KingDoopliss20Ай бұрын
i'm not a vintage player so maybe my take is.. what ever... but like.. how is shops still unrestricted? how many cards got restricted cus fo that land. i do not understand.
@samuelappАй бұрын
Its because the vintage people think of it as a Pillar in the format. Its vintage, here we can play shops! If they restrict it then the format will flip upside down.
@rekennerАй бұрын
Because people bought 10 grand worth of a playset, so they restrict all the things around Shops. So It's a dumb reserved list thing.
@kamimorosАй бұрын
What do you think about Valgavoth instead of Atraxa? It doesn‘t pitch to force but it basically has hexproof and hits like a truck
@rekennerАй бұрын
It's better against exactly Plow but just worse against everything else. It doesn't pitch to anything AND it doesn't dig for interaction. Like getting a Valgavoth into play against Jewel Shops is just like ... "Uh. Nice idiot that does nothing. I untap and win."
@music00sobaАй бұрын

@rekennerАй бұрын
It doesn't work with Flash, it doesn't pitch to anything, it's harder to hard cast, it's much easier to go over the top of... What upsides does Valgavoth have?

EARLY GANG
@maciejwawrzyn4674Ай бұрын
There is more sinilarity between legacy and low power formats like standard or pauper (ok especially pauper) than legacy and vintage. Every vintage player not named Actuallylvl1 or BoshnRoll is a little baby scooping to the tiniest inconvenience. One woould imagine if your deck is full of most powerful cards you should be able to turn the tide a reasonable amount of time, and also knowing how degenerate and unstable these decks are chances are your oponent deck will also brick out the second you blow some air at it, why scoop early.... idk
