I believe the reason Split/Second 2 was cancelled is mainly due to the fact that BlackRock was bought by Disney shortly before the release of the first game, and shortly after the studio was closed because Disney interactive wanted to focus on mobile gaming. Tldr: Disney traded peak for slop

So about 30:30, Shadow the Hedgehog WAS gonna be T for Teen however SEGA didn't tell the team to hold back for the most part. What actually happened was they were aiming for Teen rating, however during Development the ESRB came out with the brand new E10+ Rating. So once that came out they decided to aim for that Rating instead, leading to the toned down graphics and language.
