With the release of their self-titled debut, The Ocean Blue quickly achieved widespread acclaim and radio & MTV airplay with top 10 Modern Rock/College Radio hits like "Between Something and Nothing", "Drifting, Falling", and "Vanity Fair". Followed by Cerulean, Beneath the Rhythm and Sound , and See The Ocean Blue, the band's fanbase grew with each release.
The band continued to several records, including 2000's Davy Jones Locker and 2004's Waterworks. In 2013, the band released their first full length record in a decade, Ultramarine, on Korda Records. In 2015, the band worked with Sire Records to reissue their first three albums on vinyl, and toured North America and South America, where some of their most passionate fans reside.
In 2019, the band returned with the beautifully powerful Kings and Queens / Knaves and Thieves, and has continued to tour for this release and the newly re-issued vinyl of See The Ocean Blue (2022) and Davy Jones Locker (2023).

You are absolutely right there. What a great sound. There was a Canadian band, out in the early 80's, that didn't get the recognition it deserved. The band was Breeding Ground. If you can find them on here, give them a listen. They were great.

Words that form a sentence Words that form a phrase In a poem or a letter Could not convey the meaning Of what this man has done In a painting On canvas As the colors fading They dictate my mood Can you see me Are you near me I find myself on canvas I find myself on stage Can you see me Are you near me And I long to know you're real And I long for you to be part of me I long to know you're real And I long for you to be a part of me In the fading twilight I sit and stare at her In all her beauty Her beauty You know I have to wonder Why all great men must die And leave their treasure They leave their treasure

I've been trying to purge my memory, lately, of as many bands (mostly obscure) as possible that I loved. Stuff like Railway Children, House of Love, Ride, Stone Roses, The Wonder Stuff, OMD, New Order, Crowded House, DM, The Hollow Men, Lightening Seeds, Big Audio Dynamite, Hoodoo Gurus, Echo and the Bunnymen, etc.

A classic of that pivotal late 80s/early 90s sound. I remember this hit the airwaves not long after the Bunnymen broke up and the guitar riff, particularly the solo was just what us indie college kids needed to help us think of what Will Sergeant would be playing if the Bunnymen were still around. That is said as a compliment to this band. I cannot recall ever hearing a weak song from them. I read years ago that the lead singer became a lawyer after they disbanded. And this is EXACTLY how indie college kids looked around that time.

The drumming in this song is sooooo damned efficient, putting little accents where needed, like raisins in a bread. No need for complicated 7/6th shuffle movements combined with Creole traditional music drumming like Jeff Porcaro of Toto fame would have proposed. This song just needed a strong, simple beating, with lots of caresses of the cymbals on the right spots. And those delicate extra's by the keyboards, ohhh oh again so to the point. No unnecessary Wakeman-tralala, just art deco-ish, simple notes for the right atmosphere... Wow !

Saw them at Mississippi Nights (St. Louis) in 1990! They opened for The Mighty Lemon Drops and killed! They played their entire debut album and then showered the crowd with Hershey candy bars. What a fantastic sound. So clean but full. Every instrument is perfectly balanced--Schelzel's voice, the chiming guitar, the steady bass, the piano slipping in and out, and I love the cymbal bell work. Damn, so great to slip into this song again.

This was played a decent bit on MTV around '88/'89 and I loved it, but it was mining the earlier territory of the Smiths/EchoBunnymen, etc., and grunge was about to be heavily pushed by the music industry as you probably know. We can look back on this now and appreciate its awesome timelessness.

my cool older sister had the ocean blue cassette tape and I would hide it from her and listen to it in my headphones on my bmx bike, I remember it was summer and I was starting to yearn for something more, something romantic, something I could sense but was too young to understand. Like Book of Love, this band was one of the best things to come out of Pennsylvania. Oddly, the PA band everyone seems to remember from the 80s is The Hooters who had the one hit "And We Danced". Tragic. Especially considering the numerous hits that Ocean Blue and Book of Love had all over the place on college radio. IF only the mainstream radio stations outside of PA had found these bands.... Regardless, we're all blessed now thanks to KZbin. Shout out to 103.1 The Wave in Salt Lake City for continuing to play these kinds of bands every day. You guys at The Wave are awesome, especially Andrea and the guy behind Chet's Casettes!!

One of the best songs and music video ever invented!! I don’t understand why The Ocean blue is so underrated they were actually pioneers of a new music style in the 90’s in fact they inaugurated the 90’s decade of music by introducing 90’s new wave rock style!

I was watching Cowboys/ Eagles on Sunday Night Football and *this* song came on! I was like, that's The Ocean Blue! Now I got 'em on repeat on Spotify. Memories of college. Great memories. The boys from Hershey made some wonderful music. 👌🏽

God, what memories. Was listening to new music and heard this the very day I heard Toad The Wet Sprocket. That whole era was so distinct. The Sundays, Echo and The Bunnymen, The Church, The Cure. There was a mystery and a magic to the vibe that has not been duplicated. It was around this time that I discovered Acid House and Trance and I never looked back. But this was one of those last conventional bands I recall loving.

This song is gorgeously written and a underrated classic! “Words that form a sentence Words that form a phrase In a poem or a letter Could not convey the meaning Of what this man has done In a painting On canvas As the colors fading They dictate my mood Can you see me Are you near me I find myself on canvas I find myself on stage Can you see me Are you near me And I long to know you're real And I long for you to be part of me I long to know you're real And I long for you to be a part of me In the fading twilight I sit and stare at her In all her beauty Her beauty You know I have to wonder Why all great men must die And leave their treasure” Women remember indeed WE ARE ThAT TREASURE!! ❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥💔☺️

Recuerdos bailando en Bauhaus de Miraflores en 2003,2004, especialmente los miércoles. Aunque al día siguiente había que trabajar y estudiar, igual lo importante era bailar la música que realmente te gusta. El tiempo vuela...

This takes me back to when I was a preteen/teenager and I didn't know about gothic music,at least it wasn't defined, and music like this fit in between being indie, moody, just esoteric
