With the release of their self-titled debut, The Ocean Blue quickly achieved widespread acclaim and radio & MTV airplay with top 10 Modern Rock/College Radio hits like "Between Something and Nothing", "Drifting, Falling", and "Vanity Fair". Followed by Cerulean, Beneath the Rhythm and Sound , and See The Ocean Blue, the band's fanbase grew with each release.
The band continued to several records, including 2000's Davy Jones Locker and 2004's Waterworks. In 2013, the band released their first full length record in a decade, Ultramarine, on Korda Records. In 2015, the band worked with Sire Records to reissue their first three albums on vinyl, and toured North America and South America, where some of their most passionate fans reside.
In 2019, the band returned with the beautifully powerful Kings and Queens / Knaves and Thieves, and has continued to tour for this release and the newly re-issued vinyl of See The Ocean Blue (2022) and Davy Jones Locker (2023).

Up there in quality with the likes of The Smiths, James, The La's etc, just surprisingly American. These guys should have reached the same dizzying heights, still timeless now.

I only discovered them (purely by chance) over the weekend, on youtube - I am beyond peeved that I had not heard of them sooner! It seems incredible that in the late 80's and right through the 90's (my teens to 20's) I was always looking out for good bands and I never discovered them - gutted! Where are you? I'm in the UK - I wonder if that is why. I don't remember ever hearing them on the radio and my friend's dad paid for MTV etc, so we used to watch regularly, so I really don't understand why I've never heard them before. I used to listen to John Peel on the radio and he introduced me to some belter tunes. Then, like you say, going into independent record shops, but they didn't have a listening facility, so I used to randomly buy records from this one tiny store which was probably only 12 feet by 10 feet square, but they crammed the records in, and almost everything they had was absolutely mint. That's how I first discovered the band Curve, I liked the cover of their single and just impulse-bought it. The guy who worked there knew his stuff and if you said you liked a certain band he could point you in the right direction of other things you'd probably like. He had no problem playing stuff for you, but I used to go in my college lunch hour because I went to college in a different town, so I had limited time. My goodness I'm writing a book on your comment, sorry I'll shut up now!

PS All that said, if this was first brought out in 2005 I'd not have stood a chance of hearing it, my son was 2 years old and I was crazy busy - i lost all spare time I used to have after work and at weekends to read books, write poetry, listen to music in abundance, it was mad, all gone in a flash. Wouldn't change it though, he's a brilliant young man, with very eclectic musical tastes, just like his mother!

Casi lloro.

333DGK Totally. Sad that in the late 80's early 90's in america it was only hair metal dying out and grunge coming in. Then that stupid girl hippie rock. Totally obnoxious and is why many of us in america had to turn to the ROSES, happy mondays, and then finally blur and oasis. I didn't even know this band existed til the early 2000's. Fuck america is fucking stupid sometimes.

@@urwholefamilydied What do you mean by "girl hippie rock?" I remember a lot of angry punk/grunge girl bands, but I never thought of them as hippies... very much not. Can you give some examples? I know you wrote this 5 years ago, but if you come by this way I'd like to hear more about this. Hmm. Do you mean mean singers like Sarah McLaughlin? I wouldn't call her music rock, though. Does anyone else know what this means?

This is one of my top ten favorite songs of all time. What does that say about me since it only has 87,000 views, lol. These guys were part of the madchester movement but got robbed since they were Americans. It's still great.

You asking what is says about you since it only has 87,000(at the time) and is your favorite song is your answer. Pretentious.

They were fantastic in NYC late 80s with their headliner The Nightly Lemon Drops.

Quietly, almost elusively Almost invisibly, I found that I for a moment Had slipped away. Ripped in two, then pasted back again, Then crumpled up inside, Then tossed aside you know that It feels so bad. oh Mercury oh Mercury Happened once, then it happened twice, Then it happened thrice, And now a fourth? You know that? Quietly, almost elusively Almost invisibly, I found that I for a moment Had slipped away. oh Mercury

148 smart ones.. 1 person not so smart. I remember these guys from my radio station days. We got these guys to play at the Old Post Office. Great night that night. I wish they were still recording.

i grew up in the next county from these guys. the same area where the great band LIVE germinated. and by germinated I mean, the ground was fertile for music. it still is. i love this music to this day. it never gets old. i do, but it doesn't.

This is quite a beautiful video. I don't like the change in approach they took with the ones from the following album. It's seems they wanted to make them into a Duran Duran or Wham! for the 90's with those. Lots of ridiculous posing instead of them playing their instruments. Sorry if I sound like a broken record (ha!) but please post the video for "Between Something and Nothing", Warner!
