Engineer OCS, Ft. Belvoir, class 2-G-70. And anyone who went there and watched this had to be laughing at how clean and easy they made it look. Good times - 50 years ago. I think I still owe pushups.

Tactics and map reading were the two courses everyone feared back then

OCS meant pure hell to a draftee. It mean a 3 year hitch and Definitely a tour or two in Nam. If you were going to stay in the service it was a good deal.

They wanted me to go to OCS. I knew it would be a good chance I would be sent to vetnam and I was not going over as 90 day wonder. Army 1970. 73. Vetnam 1971. 72. I still went over but I was in crypto.

Infantry, Army OCS, Ft. Benning, class 27-69. Also offered West Point Preparatory Academy but had to pass since I would have bben a few months past the max age when I graduated from West Point in 5 years.

They mention for the top 10% that they get "special consideration for commission into the Regular Army". Does this mean that most OCS graduates during that time were basically "draft" officers?

Your commission is in the USA R(reserve) as are most ROTC graduates. Being Regular Army means if there is a RIF (reduction in force) you will get preference in being retained. All reserve commissions come with x years expected active duty and x reserve usually adding up to 8 years.

Why cry about losing a stripe? You get paid at E-5 while at OCS!

Promotions were rampant and plentiful during Nam. The officer Corps was rotten with 90 day wonders playing soldier. More crimes of war were committed by the officer corps in Nam than Capone in Chicago.
