Three words to describe the young Sly Stallone. Driven, Insightful, Relentless. "Rocky" remains today the most influential movie for SO MANY young men of that period. "Best picture" does not begin to describe it's impact.

Rocky and Rambo were my dad's favorite movies, so I grew up watching those movies, whenever they were on VHS, television, DVD etc we always watched them I'm 29 and I still love them my dad is no longer here, but every time I watch Rocky or Rambo played I always watch them still got the same emotions and the same feel, plus both characters have strong ethic, moral and values there's only so much that you can learn from both! I’m so glad Sly is talking about this part of his life. I’m in my early 20s and feel like I’m running out of time to get back into filmmaking and acting, but him mentioning he was 26 at the time was a huge inspiration to me, especially given his inexperience. Thanks for always reminding me to keep punching, Sly 🥊

@littleripper3122 жыл бұрын
It depends, you're running out of time to play the young good looking lead but if you get good there is lots of work for older actors too. I worked in the film industry for a while and there were tons of actors who made a living doing 1 or a few episodes on every show. Not famous but theres tons of work that isn't the lead actor. People get to know you on set as someone who shows up and brings 100% to even a small part and they will keep hiring you because you're safe and reliable. As soon as you mess up once and show up late or miss a call time you're done though. It's a small industry and they want reliable people. Tons of work behind the camera too as a backup. Lighting, grip, sound, PA work will always be there so don't be worried.

He should write a script about his own life and make it into a movie before he retires from the business. His stories about the making of Rocky are fascinating. For example, the famous scene of him running up the steps outside the Philadelphia art museum was just a random fluke. He was driving around with his crew, thought up the whole thing on the fly that day, and just stopped the car to film it. It became an iconic part of American culture for generations. That kind of stuff is gold.

@BoopSnoot2 жыл бұрын
Its important not to try bank on replicating their success though. Imagine there's a guy sitting there in his chair telling you about how he didn't give up and just kept working odd jobs while playing the lottery, when one day he got the winning ticket. Tens of thousands of people could do the exact same thing, to the letter, and never hit that jackpot. Luck plays a huge role, as is being at least half Jewish as Stallone is. You'll notice that with extremely rare exceptions, most actors, directors, and producers that made it big are either Jewish, half Jewish, or are married to someone Jewish. They don't usually accept outsiders into their business.

Someone told me 'Don't give up, life can change in a minute!' I said, but it never does. Still, 5-6 years later since he said that... I now agree. @@BoopSnoot Thats a good point. One should not try replicating exactly what a successful person did. The main issue is never giving up. And yes, luck has a lot to do with it. But guess what? - we create our own luck in life mainly by taking the initiative. Sly once mentioned that had he not had the balls to approach a producer with his script, he would not be sitting here.
@BoopSnoot2 жыл бұрын
@@KNOWHOPE72 True, you miss every swing you don't take. But his brother for example also went into acting, and nobody knows who the other Stalone is, and he probably only got gigs mostly because of his brother's success being his connection. Frank Stallone even looks just like his brother, but he just wasn't as lucky, but still luckier than most by having lightning strike his brother even if not himself.

Mr. Balboa is correct in that the economic model for films has changed so much that it hinders artistic integrity. Though Quinten Tarantino points out that the best films in the 60’s, and later in the 80’s & 90’s come out of a period of conservative production orthodoxy. There will always be creative visionaries who are able to get their films made and distributed by studios willing to take a chance. Some of the small film projects I’ve seen lately are very daring and make the me optimistic for the next generation of filmmakers.
