"Studying without Certainty" chapter on anxiety from not doing enough all the time was very relatable. I liked TOP, it's not 1:1 to working, but it was never intended to be, much like a CS degree is not 1:1 to working (Or any degree to work relationship). It's an entry into the field.

Yup it is a tough road to go down! But well worth it in the end. Nothing quite prepares you perfectly but TOPs good enough.

Could you do a day in the life of what you ACTUALLY do as a developer?
@self_taught_dev Жыл бұрын
For sure. I am going to do that. It will be a couple weeks out as I have some other videos lined up already.

Hey there! Did you refer to any other material or resource other than The Odin Project to eventually bag your job?
@self_taught_dev11 ай бұрын
I started really early on learning about the web on Khan Academy, but really, 99% of my learning was via The Odin Project. However, one big caveat here, is that for my final Rails project I built a live dog adoption site with real users. This project took me three months and I did it outside of The Odin Project. It is also what really helped me land my first job as not many juniors build production apps. So, I recommend doing something similar to stand out. There is so much more to just coding when you build something like that...understanding a problem and developing a solution with code, working with a client, users, user feedback etc.

What tech stack do you use at your work? Do you still use Ruby On Rails or did you switch to Javascript for your job?
@self_taught_dev Жыл бұрын
Ruby on rails currently, with some JS. Last job was Python and JS.

@@self_taught_dev Thank you I am currently tryna make the decision if I wanna take the ruby on rails or javascript path for the odin projects, seems javascript is more in demand but Ruby on Rails looks like a better developer experience.
