The Odin2 Mini - Powerful, compact and cute!

Here is a quick first impressions video outlining some of the things I like about the Odin2 Mini--and some of the things I don't like quite as much. This isn't the android gaming handheld for everyone, but maybe it could be the device for you, just like it was for me~

Loving the vibe of the review. I'm probably biased since I've preordered one already, but it's nice to hear some genuine everyday impressions of it without highlighting how noticeable the vignetting or blooming is... I want a smaller device, so I'll live with its shortcomings, since there's really no other option at that form factor.

Yeah, exactly. I think despite its drawbacks, this is a great device for the quality to size ratio. It feels very premium and will still fit in a pocket.

@@crystal_is_cozy it's awesome! I was a little worried about ergonomics but the way the hands just curve around it and hug it feels great. I own the Odin 2 so I knew what to expect from the mini for the most part. But Odin 2 was just to big for me to carry around comfortably. This solves everything.

I bought the O2, and the next day Ayn released the O2 Mini. However, I'm happy with the O2 because of its larger battery, and I purchased it for gaming during trips (:

I think it’s great as a trip gaming console, because of that battery! Good if you’re on a long flight or bus ride. Congrats! I love both devices and can’t decide which one I want to get rid of, sigh.

Looks beautiful! I had ordered the same white colour mini but cancelled it yesterday. Reason being the Vignette/ shadow around the screen. This would have been the perfect pocketable handheld for emulation for me but I guess the screen is not for me. Ordered a Switch OLED with the refund amount along with Tears of the Kingdom and Mario Odyssey. Also I figured that if I remove the joycons I can carry the Switch tablet easily in a smaller pouch along with the joycons in the extra pocket of the bag. However, I will miss emulation. Hopefully an oled odin mini comes soon and I'll be happy to join. Hope you enjoy the device and happy gaming!

Right, I didn't know about the vignetting before I ordered it, and while I don't mind it as much as other people might, I think this is a good reason to pass on the device, especially if you can get an oled device you enjoy more. Emulation is something I'd really miss, though! Fingers crossed for the next iteration.

Spending any $ on any of these is absolutely an indulgence, nothing about them is practical, they are not a phone replacement.... Yet they are successful because of consumers like me who love technology and only because I am impressed knowing that it's a waste of money, I still want one in my hands😅

I have big hands..9 inch hands..I have an rog ally already so I'm wanting something smaller and powerful for gamecube..ps2..wii..and upscaled psp emulation. I feel like this is it..I'm so tempted to get the mini over the odin 2..I'm also tempted to wait and see if an odin 3 is announced this winter after rp5 ships on late October since retroid and ayn are owned by same company

Yeah, it’s so good but just a little too big. I’m kinda sad we have to pay a premium to get something smaller, though. Odin 2 is a little cheaper than the mini right now.

Side note, whenever I go to a Goodwill or Salvation Army I keep finding makeup bags that work perfectly for protective cases for my devices on the super cheap. And often I have declined one or two for looking a little to 'girly' for my tastes, but I'll wager you might not mind as much.

I agree that the plastic is too smooth if it's anything like the Odin 2. AYN should definitely make a rubbery grip to help with ergonomics, and drop resistance in the likely event that the Odin 2 Mini will slip out of people's hands.

Tomtoc is great, but given you aesthetic, I bet you'd really love a Chrome industries bag-- they're always coming out with new colors, and right now there's a purplish colorway on the kadet slings that would really match your devices!

Oooh yeah I really like that one! They are a bit pricey, though T_T. Plus, I like the compactness of the tomtoc bag and how it has a special space to hold handhelds with padding. But that purple bag IS calling my name lol

The plastic is pretty smooth, so probably not? I think the only parts that might be risky are those back pads (because they are slightly rougher material?) and the joysticks, which are very easily replaceable.

I wish vita emulation was better, this couldve been the perfect vita! I think the pad at the bottom are only there cuz the vita had them (and vita had it so you know where the touchpad on back ends)

I know what you mean. The night I got it, I had an actual nightmare that I'd somehow smeared red dirty on it and it wouldn't come off. But realistically, it'd be pretty hard to permanently discolor the plastic, it's so smooth? I'm sure it'd be easy to wipe clean.

The Odin 2 is really great! I do think some compromises are needed to keep the Mini's form factor small, and unfortunately those compromises come in the form of smaller screen and battery life. For some people, that's a deal breaker, but I really love my Odin2 Mini and play it much more than my Odin 2 Pro. But! I think the nice thing about the gaming handheld space is that there are so many options for all of us =D
