It's not The Office at its worst. It's The Office at it's most normal. The whole show is just "awkward-funny" humour. A lot of these scenes are played out in an ironic/awkward fashion purposefully and the ones that didn't were used to setup her character arc. Pam's arc throughout the show (especially later seasons) is her proving herself capable and learning not to let demeaning or sexist manners effect her. A lot of them are in earlier seasons bcs as the show goes on, she improves as a person and gets more confident. Pam is a really underrated character, fundamentally and just personality wise

7:46 it's crazy rewatching this like a decade later and realizing how much i've matured, and how my sense of humor has evolved. This scene is brilliant in the context of the show as a whole and the character Toby. The man simultaneously *peaked* at work, landing a joke everyone laughs at, genuinely; and then has the absolute worst awkward moment ever, one that he literally flees to another country to escape. It's still funny, but how I feel watching it could not be more stark a difference, and I think that's the point. Great writing that achieves exactly what it sets out to do... It's interesting to see the popular discourse "the office couldn't be made today" "the office is too cringey/isn't funny" because as I mull over how i've changed as i grew up, i cannot imagine the writers intended anything else for the show other than being funny to immature people and exasperating for the socially and empathy competent members of the audience.

Yes, it was. It was very much intentional, hence the extended time his hand was on her knee and then the running with his finger. It was gross and bad. He is in fact a coward tho and that's why he ran and hopped a fence instead of apologizing.

Well I dont know that depends. I would say that Pam wasnt bothered that much about it, because he found him cute before. But I think that the touch would give more shock than some words - because words do not have that much influence on a person than a touch. You can ignore words but touching is way more personal especially if u dont want to be touched on specific parts of your body and by particular people. Its one thing if someone puts their hand on your shoulder and one thing to put their hand on your thigh. But thats my opinion.

The Office is not crossing the line, it's showing and acknowledging WHAT crossing the line IS, which we can all agree to. Making bad things bearable to deal with, while STILL actually DEALING with them, is the entire point of humor.

I remember way back in 03 or 04 when they aired the episode where Jim picks up Pam. My roommate & I used to have these watch parties for shows like The Office. Everybody got real quiet… mouths open… and then we rewound the DVR… again… and again… It’s funny bc she’s cute but, I mean, we were all in love with Pam Beasley. For a hot minute, we thought we all wanted to marry her lol. Casting was perfect bc she’s not “hot” like that. She easily slides from best friend to life partner.

Unpopular opinion: I kinda feel for Toby. He felt a deeper attraction than just "boobs", he got carried away and when he realized he went too far he left the room (and left to Costa Rica to clear his mind). He's one of the rare characters who see their own flaws and try to act upon them
