It's not The Office at its worst. It's The Office at it's most normal. The whole show is just "awkward-funny" humour. A lot of these scenes are played out in an ironic/awkward fashion purposefully and the ones that didn't were used to setup her character arc. Pam's arc throughout the show (especially later seasons) is her proving herself capable and learning not to let demeaning or sexist manners effect her. A lot of them are in earlier seasons bcs as the show goes on, she improves as a person and gets more confident. Pam is a really underrated character, fundamentally and just personality wise

7:46 it's crazy rewatching this like a decade later and realizing how much i've matured, and how my sense of humor has evolved. This scene is brilliant in the context of the show as a whole and the character Toby. The man simultaneously *peaked* at work, landing a joke everyone laughs at, genuinely; and then has the absolute worst awkward moment ever, one that he literally flees to another country to escape. It's still funny, but how I feel watching it could not be more stark a difference, and I think that's the point. Great writing that achieves exactly what it sets out to do... It's interesting to see the popular discourse "the office couldn't be made today" "the office is too cringey/isn't funny" because as I mull over how i've changed as i grew up, i cannot imagine the writers intended anything else for the show other than being funny to immature people and exasperating for the socially and empathy competent members of the audience.

ngl Toby putting his hand on Pam's thigh wasn't as bad as half of the stuff that happened to her. It's unintentional, akward sure, but he didn't mean it, it was subconscious
@LoverDemi7 ай бұрын
THANK YOU!!!! Of course it was bizarre, but he didn't do it because he wanted to, LIKE EVERYONE ELSE Pam is the only person who treats Toby well, it's normal for him to have feelings for her not to mention that he regretted it seconds later and felt bad, he just didn't apologize because he's a coward
@arikalamari197 ай бұрын
unintentional and subconscious are not the same thing doofus, having a dream about pam would be subconscious but acting on it in reality, touching her knee was fully intentional. He is just bad at reading signs and taking hints, but everyone even autistic people are accountable for indecent behavior in public. It‘s just funny because everyone was witness to this and as HR overstepping his own rules is absurd
@sethc68957 ай бұрын
Nice try Toby
@bethanychatman95317 ай бұрын
Yes, it was. It was very much intentional, hence the extended time his hand was on her knee and then the running with his finger. It was gross and bad. He is in fact a coward tho and that's why he ran and hopped a fence instead of apologizing.
@lucienovakova93307 ай бұрын
Well I dont know that depends. I would say that Pam wasnt bothered that much about it, because he found him cute before. But I think that the touch would give more shock than some words - because words do not have that much influence on a person than a touch. You can ignore words but touching is way more personal especially if u dont want to be touched on specific parts of your body and by particular people. Its one thing if someone puts their hand on your shoulder and one thing to put their hand on your thigh. But thats my opinion.

Okay so i have both points. I do think Pam can stand for herself. I feel bad for her because she doesn’t really understand to respond to it rather than an awkward silence. But Jim, can step in and defend her as well. Not as a man or her man, but as a person. And more than that, the women there should step in and defend her. I wouldn’t say the men because it IS the men (except, Jim, Stanley and Ryan) harassing her.

The Office is not crossing the line, it's showing and acknowledging WHAT crossing the line IS, which we can all agree to. Making bad things bearable to deal with, while STILL actually DEALING with them, is the entire point of humor.
