If you've seen and heard him play live, it's an incredible display of showmanship and world class guitar playing. Tone, phrasing, technique; honed and sharpened w/decades on the road...

Saw Mr Setzer live in the Blue tent Oberhausen Germany in 1990. The Stray Cats rocked that night. I worked the security and being a Brit I got on quite well with his guitar tech. He gave me a few stray cat picks. I played them to death over the years until the cat motifs wore away. I can say that Brian Setzer is the best live guitarist I have EVER seen.

Way back in the day, I read an interview with Brian Setzer, and the writer asked him about his tattoos, something along the lines of, are you done? Never forgot his reply, which is something his clearly very wise father told him: nothing above the neckline of your short, or below the cuff of your sleeve-in case you ever have to go before a judge.

Seen him play at Antones’ in Austin around mid 90’s. I thought he’d be playing the typical stray cat riffs from the songs off the records. Boy was I wrong about that! He commenced to melt my face off!

The most exciting guitar style to play on guitar. Stray cats is one of my 3 favorite bands....

I'm not as well versed in rockabilly per say, but I can tell you from playing some of the more upbeat tunes in the swing band I was in, I became convinced of the same thing. Jazzy licks with the speed of rock makes for a heck of a good time.

Brian is my primary inspiration to start playing guitar. A few months ago I bought this beautiful blue sparkle Gretsch guitar but I simply couldn't bond with it, it sounded too dark, there was no Rockabilly twang in that guitar. So I traded it in for a Fender Telecaster and the first thing I did was to play "Runaway boys" and the tone was there.
@Aaron-zh4kj4 жыл бұрын
I wonder if those hollowbodies are more dependent on the kind of finish and smaller details for tone, being hollow. I got a cheaper/mid tier gretsch, and it's quite bright, just the right amount of snarl and brightness for the low end (I'm a not-so gretsch guy, so take it for what it is). I actually love it. I'm playing it more and more. I even like it with quite a bit of dirt, because the resonance of the hollowbody makes it react with the amp a certain way. I'm assuming yours was a hollowbody Gretsch?

Brian, you're like an old buddy. You don't realize it, but you and I have been bumping into each other for years. I've seen the Stray Cats a few times, but we moved to the same community as adults. I'm into motorcycles and guitars, so naturally, you pop up in my playground all the time. We should meet up at Bob's for a coffee or Lee's for a beer! Do you bowl?

The Fender Bassman amp in the photo is from Brian Setzer? It's just that the grill has a different color from the one these amplifiers have, it doesn't look like the original grill, it seems to have been changed.
