This is going to be such a cool series!! Touched on all the important points to consider with a new reel purchase, and added just the right amount of detail to justify the scores. And since I've been going in the ~$100 price range for my first round of baitcast reel purchases, this will give me a solid foundation of info for when it's time to step up to the next level in quality. Your insights are mentioned and praised on other KZbinrs' channels and with this kinda content, it demonstrates that the praise is well earned and bound to increase. 👍👊🤙

The only okuma I've ever had is a spinning reel. I bought it for my wife to replace one she threw in the lake. I've used it far more than she has and its my go to ned rig setup. I was going to buy a second one but they had been discontinued. Still a tremendous reel for $50-60 bucks

I'd knock it down to 4 stars on the tightness as the side plate isn't retained when released... too easy to lose it when opening, especially given that it takes some force to get it off... I can just see it suddenly breaking free, jumping from your hand and going "plop" over board. It's just an added feature that I really appreciate in a reel. Good review. I've heard I lot of good things about this reel.
@BassGeek2 жыл бұрын

Great idea Hank. Gonna be tuning in to this just to kick myself over all my Shimanos! I need a spinning reel recommendation. I bought a 7 4" med fast Vendetta to use for a darter head rod. That's why I reached out earlier. Wanted to know what u think of the technique? What's a good 100 to 200 dollar range reel. Best buy at $150ish in ur esteemed opinion? Don't know Okuma, Abu or Lews In spinning. $150 range I know will be decent but don't be afraid to save me some money if you got a sleeper. Thx bud! Have u fished a darter head?

If you are talking spinning reels you can get a great reel for less than 200 or 150. I'll give ya 3 at the 100-120 price that's great First the Diawa Fuego Lt second the Lews Custom Pro, 3rd the Okuma ITX Carbon.

Some cheap reels have a lot of play in the handle knobs. You can feel the knobs sliding a bit back and forth while retrieving.

Most reels or combo’s around $100-$150 will do the job for people that fish for fun on the weekends or fish a few tournaments a month. If your putting In more time than that just make the investment and get a couple quality set ups to start with. It will save you money in the long run.

I'm a Lews guy but it seems their reels cant handle the test of time. This includes their high end reels. Seems like I'm always shipping back a reel after a year of use. Also, Lews merged with Strike King and I am not receiving the one on one customer service I once had with Lews. I am seriously considering going with Shimano now.
@BassGeek2 жыл бұрын
I'll be honest I seem to have more troulble out of "high end" gear then I do the bang for the buck stuff. Take the LFS. 100 bucks clean it every 2yrs and that think lasts forever. Move up to the BB1 Pro I've had parts come off and need to be replaced. I bought 6 200 Diawa R types and the side plates don't stay tight. Makes me nuts.
@steve4321able2 жыл бұрын
Exactly! Maybe why the LFS is the best seller!

Anybody buying this reel beware. The reel casts extremely well and checks off all boxes except durability. Do yourself a favor and look how Okuma cheaped out the last part of the reel and put a plastic screw in nut for the handle retaining screw. Talk about just mailing in the final part it’s embarrassing. My buddy broke the handle off the reel and I said no problem I have a nut at home that I can put on for you. Surprise it’s a cheap plastic screw that sheered off into the gear shaft at the handle. Horrible design so save your money and buy Shimano MGL
