Confession time, I named my son after Noah Wyle. I loved Doug Ross and Mark Greene, but John Carter was probably my favourite character in the end. I loved his redemption story after his addiction to pain medication. Noah wasn’t such a popular name 15 yrs ago but, shortly after, it really took off.

Love the close up at the end on Carter. In the end, he was always the main character on ER. And even when he didn’t say a single word, you could tell how happy and content he was to be in the company of his family. If only Mark lived. And Doug and Carol were still there.

I stopped watching ER in the later seasons (can't remember why...you forget, move on to other shows) but it amazed me to come back and find out Carter was in charge of the ER (especially after how he was as a student). But he really was great at it

@@pisto30 Carter was never in charge of the ER. Before he went to Africa he was an attending. And after his grandma died and he took over her foundation he moved it from donating money to the arts to creating a free clinic at County hospital. I guess that's where the confusion was. Banfield was the Chief of the ER when he returned from Africa in the final season.

I would think that after Mark died that Rachel went back to St. Louis with her mom but kept in touch with Elizabeth and Ella. But she did go to college at Duke where Elizabeth worked.

When the camera zooms in on him in those final ten seconds...that's the look of being with his real fam. They know him, they love him...and he knows and loves them. *Cries in Gen X* What's especially touching about his final episodes is that he isn't even aware of how his old friends Doug, Carol, and Peter all were instrumental in saving his life...the Ross-Hathaways by securing the kidney and Benton by ensuring the right solution was on hand in the OR.

Admiral John the producers got a lot of heat from NBC for hiding his surprise appearance from them in Carols final episode. They were seriously pissed off. They didn’t want to go through that kind of drama again with NBC, that’s why they didn’t have Doug appear at Marks funeral.

Kind of like how you'd be if you saw some lifelong friends for the first time after a long period. He's simply trying to sit back and appreciate this moment. Kerry approved the building of the Carter clinic when she was chief of staff. I think it is very fitting that she is there. I do think with how close Luka and Carter got it would make sense he was there but maybe he wasn't available by that time.

@@amr21106 Do recall Luka fired Kerry so thats also a factor. I don't know if Carter was aware of that, perhaps he was. Thats probably why Luka both was not present at the clinic ceremony and at the bar.
