If I had a dime for every minute I stood and stared at Laughing Sal, Id be rich. LSD and Laughing Sal. A match made in the cosmos. Crystal Beach is in my dna. Spent every summer day there the first 7 years of my life. I have a plywood figure of a Laffin the Dark icon right here in my living room.

I used to have nightmares from laff in the dark and in particular laughing Sally or whatever her name was 😆 but the memories of going with my family for the whole day, that restless night before then that ride there that seemed to take forever but then after going through the little town you could start to hear and smell it...it was close, then suddenly the Giant yellow rollercoaster popped into view!!! mom would set up our picnic area near the kiddy land area I think it was near where the train ride was...each kid in our family was allowed to bring a friend and then we'd get the instructions...go have fun be back for lunch then after lunch it was go have fun be back for supper then it was one last go have fun be back before dark and don't forget the suckers and sugar waffles...by the time we loaded up the cars and squeezed into a spot it was heavy eyelids and in what seemed like a minute we were being awoken we were home...that place Crystal Beach was the nirvana of my youth...it was perfect and many years later I got one last taste, on my honeymoon we went to lake George and spent a day at the great escape and we rode the Comet there and although it ran next to some woods if you closed your eyes you could through that clickety clack smell lake Erie off to your right... really miss that place

There was a distinctive odor of burning l don’t know what when you were on the ride. I remember that so well. It was my favorite ride of all.

Great work Steve! Got the water works going like the old saw mill flume ride. I was deathly afraid of the laff in the dark my whole life. Finally got up the courage to ride it labor day 1989. I still rode it with my eyes closed but it was a great send off for the attraction.
