The Old Old Story | Hymn Story, Analysis and Performance

A double feature today as we look at two hymns inspired by Katherine Hankey's lovely poem about "The old old story of Jesus and His love". Perhaps you are familiar with "Tell Me the Old Old Story" or perhaps you know "I Love To Tell the Story". Both come from her writing, written in the worst period of her life.

Bring back so many beautiful memories of my childhood and youth in the church, thank you, they no more sing them because of these new changes but God remains God and the old old story will for ever remains, thank you 😢❤❤❤❤

I learnt both of these hymns in Sunday school as a child of the 1950s in Australia & I love them & still sing them to myself. Sadly I never hear them sung in church these days. When she was a young woman the preaching was long & the preacher would preach hell & I remember as a little girl hiding down behind the pew so that the preacher couldn't see me as he was preaching fire & brimstone & for a small child it was scary & may be some of the reason why I struggled for many years falling in love with the Father. The major issue was that I had a harsh father so he formed my opinion that God was angry like him. So it wasn't till I was in my latter years & reading the whole bible for myself that I came to realise that the Father loved me so much that He sent his only begotten Son to die for me & finally got things into perspective.

"I love to tell the story" is the one that I recall singing many, many times. Both hymns are beautiful! We as Christians have the most beautiful story of all to tell others. I pray that I would be bold to speak it to often. Thank you for sharing the story behind the songs. What a blessing!

Can JEHOVAH'S WORDS "I created man in My likeness" be a weapon in the hands of Satan ----- who is evil? 🔴 Can these words not be a brand of shame in Jehovah's creation in man? To MAKE that STAGE PERFECT, JEHOVAH, AFTER the people were CREATED, did NOT TEACH or GUIDE them from the TIME of ADAM to NOAH. INSTEAD, AFTER the FLOOD DESTROYED the WORLD, He FORMALLY BEGAN to GUIDE the ISRAELITES, the DESCENDANTS of NOAH and Adam. 🙏🔴 His WORK and PRONUNCIATION of ISRAEL SET UP in ISRAEL GUIDE to ALL the PEOPLES of ISRAEL as they LIVED throughout the LAND of ISRAEL, and in THIS WAY mankind showed that Jehovah could not only seek man, to have he of life from Him and RISE FROM the DUST and BECOME a man, but that He can ALSO BURN until MANKIND becomes ASHES, and CURSING mankind, and USED His STAFF to GOVERN MANKIND. 🙏 And so they SEE that JEHOVAH can GUIDE HUMAN LIFE on EARTH, and SPEAK and WORK in the MIDDLE of MANKIND ACCORDING to the HOURS of the DAY and at NIGHT. Bro thanks for this video. Having said that, please don't feel that a judgemental, but the introduction is too long. In all thanks. 9:14 Luke, I keep hearing that, and that's true in a sense but surely, that's not the whole story ? Why does the new Testament contrasts milk and meat? Why does it say: "not laying on again a foundation of repentance from dead works? The new Testament encourages us to grow in knowledge, and precious little knowledge is imparted by most sermons today, only the basics. It's actually another aping of our current society which is based on emotions and not logic and deepening our knowledge. You've only got to see how ignorant today's students are compared to previous decades

Very true. There is definitely a time for the simple, understandable-to-a-child story of Jesus and His love. But there is a clear biblical warrant to grow in the knowledge of the Lord and to move from milk to meat. Thanks for the reminder here!
