Saw this decades ago on Texas Country Reporter when they could still drive over it -- carefully.

I am going to have to see if I can find that episode.

Beautiful old bridge. The true shame is the lack of preservation which ideally should've been done several decades ago before it got to this terrible condition. Time marches on and relics like this bridge are often forgotten...

That's really cool. Never heard of this bridge. It's worth noting that this is not generally called a suspension bridge, but as the sign says it is a cable stayed bridge. There are suspension bridges in the US dating from the 1840s, but I've never heard of another cable stayed this old. Too bad it's so rough. I hope someone can save it.

Thanks for clarifying I may have to look up the older bridges and try to hit them one day. I really like history it is disheartening that so much is just left to decay.

Bonnie and Clyde might have driven across it!

@@skipsadventures3210 What year was that bridge built again?

Spray some WD 40 on it. I sprayed it on some old tools and it worked great.

You send me enough to cover it and I will get it done for you.

Sorry to say, but even with a VERY generous restoration budget that old bridge is too far gone to save.

An attempt should have been made years ago.

Took my girlfriend to the bridge this last weekend and I had not visited this location in over 35 years. It has deteriorated drastically and tilts to the north quite a bit. Sad that the county or state will not preserve it and I can assume that this is the case because of its location and the fact that no monetary gain can be made from it. Go see it before it ends up in the river valley below and then (maybe) salvaged and sold for scrap. Sad.
