Wouldn't surprise me - The Omen has a reputation; they wanted to market with it. We know better, though. The Omen - the original with Peck and Remick - was the movie that made me a fan of well-done horror in the first place. I got excited about the remake; I was eager to see what "more depth" might be possible for it. But as far as I can tell the remake was more of a "reshoot" with new actors - it seemed almost exactly the same right down to camera angles. There was no point.

It is an elaborate plot. A plot by people who couldn't make these original movies that were so great and classic. So they take old stories, then utterly destroy them over & over while hoping to line their pockets. So they make money and enjoy destroying something that was so classic. Non-Catholics routinely confuse the Immaculate Conception with the Virgin Birth. So my best guess is that Screen Rant's reference to an "inverted Immaculate Conception" means that the mother of the Anti-Christ will be a virgin when she gives birth to Damien, or alternatively, that Damien will be conceived without actual intercourse with Satan (as was depicted in Rosemary's Baby). As for the movie, there is really no need for a prequel story. We already know what happens. What does this add? And it wouldn't work even if they hued to the novel because the novel's discussion of the satanic apostles' activities was too over-the-top to be the basis of a movie and wouldn't be particularly scary. Basically, the novel tells us that these people form covens and try to spread chaos throughout the world to herald the coming of the Anti-Christ. So they are involved in sabotage, subversion, civil disturbances, etc., in countries all over the world. If I recall correctly, Father Brennan (Tassone) goes to Cambodia to stage the coup which overthrew the government of Prince Sihanouk in 1970. That's not really the stuff of a horror movie.

It's like they wanted to make a "birth of the anti-Christ" film and just pasted it onto the Omen franchise. Then they didn't want to write about a jackal and just tried to figure out a version that would be as "shocking" as possible.

Damien not being born from a jackal pisses me off alot aswell. Alot of fans, me included, couldn't wait to see Damien jackal's brith using CGI. Let's hope that Mrs. Baylock is in it at least and also a rivisitation of the photograph subplot from the first film. We also need a feasible explanation of how Robert Thorn's pregnant wife very conveniently turns up just as Damien is born.

Yeah. I hate this idea of a human mother for Damien. I never read the book of the original movie. But the big thing I never understood about the movie was the actual details of how Father Brennan witnessed the birth of Damien from a jackal. He merely told Thorne "I saw it's mother!". I mean, where was he at to witness this? Was he stationed at a hospital when an ambulance brought a pregnant jackal into the ER? Nor did I understand why they bothered to actually bury the jackal in a cemetery. And how did the jackal die? In birthing? Or did the cultists kill it? If they killed it, you'd think they'd just toss it in a dumpster. And, for that matter, why did they bother burying Thorne's baby?

The First Omen turned out surprisingly good and the lead actresses role might be the best performance in the franchise. As to the retxon, well it was unavoidable, having a jackall as a mother was very imprctical. Still jackal imagery is present in the new movie. It is possible to include the retcon seamlessly to the 1976 Omen, by adopting the theory that father Brennan fabricated the jackall as a mother in order to protect Margaret.

Sorry to be two months late, but... I think that Fox is counting on the current movie going public that they care about, i.e. 18-35-year-olds, to not be familiar with the first Omen movie. Once they get the money for the ticket sale on this one, they won't much care when people go back to watch The Omen from almost 50 years ago, and go, "WTF?" Who knows what the hell they're thinking anymore? This may just end up in the same vault of Movies We Don't Discuss like "The Omen IV: The Awakening."

Movie had pretty disturbing moments and not as much jumpscare as I was expecting. Would recommend if you are free. I was having a movie marathon, watched this, then Godzilla x Kong and finally Dune 2. Pretty great start for the renewed franchise. SPOILER and TLDR for 'The First Omen': Saw the movie, their was a Jackal, but it was the father. Pretty terrifyingly depicted, I would say. Apparently the church has been trying to give birth to the AntiChrist, but the first child to not be stillborn ended up being a girl. So, they think that to bring about the true AntiChrist they have to mate the Jackal with its own offspring after she comes of age. Very fucked up. Eventually, the offspring after she is an adult is made to mate with the Jackal and gives birth to twins in this movie. After they take the boy, they leave the mother and girl to burn in the church, where the Jackal also catches fire and burns. This links to the skeleton that we see in the first film, I take :/. Honestly, had a great deal of fun watching it.

Safer would be to just have the jackal show up already pregnant, but probably involving some "ceremony." I think the "other stuff" that had to be rigged - arranging for the Thorns to be on the scene at just the right time, etc. would give them plenty of material. The problem with seeing the conception is not only the animal rights backlash but also just that it's hard to actually SHOW Satan and have it be very compelling. It's something more powerful just left as an idea.

The way it was said could be told the same way, The Jackal is visible, and dies in the fire. It could have been the father was the jackal. Since he was born with the D.N.A., it could be said born of a jackal. Slight reach, but still works.

Okay but i have a conspiracy theory that solves this. I think this movie is actually a secret/unintentional prequel to the 2006 omen remake instead! The reason i mainly think this is because pf the scene of the death of the priest. In the original he is just speared by a falling pole from the church, in the 2006 remake,,, the pole falls off the church, smashes through a stained glass window, and them impales the priest. The first omen also has the spear going through the stained glass. Although it seems like a random assumption, the detail of the pole going through a stained glass window is a detail that was only ever added in the 2006 version, so it would be very random to me for them to include that in the 2024 version that is exclusively a remake of the original. - and since the omen remake is a pretty faithful adaptation,, its safe to say that their storylines are at least compatible. Maybe moreso than it is compatible with the original. Not to mention the way the scene was shot and the actor looked just like the scene from the 2006 version and did not resemble the tone of the scene in the original. It was to the point where even if it is a sequel to the original,, the callback to the remake HAS to be intentional.

@@HorrorAndCoffee I’m not saying that is not how it will turn out but I’m optimistic. Hell it might even play out she gives birth to the AntiChrist before Damien. Damien is not the first and as we know in The Omen IV, he’s not the last. Nero Caesar was believed to be the AntiChrist as well as Pope Leo X. I don’t know how I feel about them going that route (because I didn’t really like when they went a similar route with the recent Candyman) but that is a possibility. But my money is on she has nightmares or visions of Damien being born or maybe she’s like Mrs Baylock. Or maybe she IS Mrs Baylock and her ethnicity is just being overlooked (doubt it).

I think a good prequel story could be told. How did the church and hospital officials get drawn into the whole thing? How did they manage to get the Thorns on tap in just the right place at just the right time? You can't tell me that was random - Thorn was on track to become the President of the United States by all indications. Writers in Hollywood are so lazy and unoriginal. Here is a good way to connect this to the original jackal canon of the story and create a human element. Tell me what you think. What if the shadow of the woman who is to be Damien’s mother is that of a jackal? Those behind the conspiracy could have lied and told the person who is to be his mother that she had a disease like Xeroderma pigmentosum that made the sun harmful to her and kept her in the darkness of the momentary her entire life because they knew if she was to cast a shadow, it would be revealed her shadow is that of a jackal. Anyone who is not part of the conspiracy who sees any glimpse of a shadow from her by any light would be marked for death. It could be revealed later that she was born a jackal and took human form and when she dies giving birth, she reverts to jackal form. A competent writer could use light to represent the truth and something seen as a temptation for her since she has been denied it. Satan could have been represented by a blinding light that visits her at night for the moment of conception. Her giving in to her greatest temptation. This is just something to tie the canon in with what they say they are going for.

The movie comes out tomorrow, was getting good reviews and now hearing this has destroyed my hopes for it. The Omen trilogy is my favorite movie trilogy, and I love the books, but no jackal birth for Damien is a deal breaker. It's a huge plot point of all three original movies. Damien even mentions it in his monologue to Jesus in The Final Conflict. If this change is true then it destroys the story in a very fundamental way.

Some stories are actually original scripts but studio heads either steal scripts or bake an IP into them for marketing. Cloverfield is a great example. This is why screenwriters would protest, they want to tell original stories and receive credit where it's due.

I worry on that. I think only way I'd support that is don't make Damien sister anything but normal like Mom and Carlita. Then have some more stuff with them but away from Damien. Correct the timeline but in last of Damien trilogy move the year up and change church character motives and then stick to story but change year because itd be plenty believable. The thing is politics in 2024 is no diff than 1976. Sometimes elections are honest some rigged and the charismatic guy wins again it's believable in any era

I saw the cast and they have some actor playing the jackal, which probably means they’re twisting the story. But yeah, no way around it, this isn’t Rosemarys Baby, Damien is born of a jackal. Also, in regard to them doing a prequel to the Omen trilogy, that’s the only thing available as there can’t be a sequel to the end of Omen 3 as it’s the end of time and Christ’s return, forgetting Omen 4 for a moment, if we can ever.

Omen 4 exists because it made no sense for Damien to even die to begin with. He was MEANT to rule and the third movie ended so stupid and cheap there needed to be a redemption for that lackluster mess. There needed to be a tribulation, world domination, plagues, etc. happening and we didn't see none of that, so how is there gonna be peace over the earth that instantly? The ending there makes no sense. Also, Christ didn't actually return at the end of that movie, it was just a vision and Damien was only defeated with one dagger, meaning he could be reborn in another body, hence what led to the fourth movie.

It obviously starts off sometime after the third movie and they mention Damien's death. The only issue I have with the movie is them not mentioning who the mother was. Was it Kate Reynolds or that Sister Yvonne woman? But it's clear the third movie was not a true END just because we saw Damien die because that shouldn't have happened before he even got a chance to rule. He was THE chosen antichrist. The first two movies built up to that and the third movie ruined that and then tried to end like there was literal peace on the Earth like what? WHAT??? The dude doesn't even get to rule and gets taken out with one dagger and then that's it, it's all over and rainbows and butterflies. GET OUT OF HERE WITH THAT. I argue with anyone who says that movie ended things right, and you have the nerve to bash on Omen 4? Yes, it's a TV movie but it was well made, had a good story with a nice gender twist on things (the original movie had a father investigating his son and here it's a mother investigating her daughter), and furthermore a nice twist in bringing back the antichrist which you thought was Delia but it's actually someone else. Asia Veira put on a HECK of a performance even better than Harvey Stephens as the creepy devil child so you better give her some props right now! The fact you want to defend that crooked and useless remake which did nothing new, had some of the blandest acting I've ever seen like no one wanted to be there is pitiful to me. Julia Styles and Liev Schreiber had no chemistry. The whole movie was a thud. It was best off not being made and only saw the light of day because of the remake trend of the time and someone wanting to capitalize on the 666-release date of June 6, 2006. But it was a bore financially and critically and led to no further sequels goes to show where that movie lies and should be treated. You should be ashamed to even call yourself an OMEN fan.

Revising the continuity established by films of old isn't something new nor surprising. I mean back over a decade ago what the director of The Thing prequel conveniently omit the whole plot point about the Norwegians using the thermite charges to unthaw the block of ice, that Carpenter's film originally established, on the grounds that said director thought it was not possible to happen. And, I can give more examples of other classic films that have been struck with the sequelitis/prequelitis revisionist syndrome. Likely they are going to revise as well the timeline for the First Omen establishing it takes place in the late-1940's or the 1950's when the first film established it took place at the start of the 1970's.

Wouldn't an inverted immaculate conception be either one either the father or mother being a reanimated corpse or it surviving after being aborted. It's like this film is trying to up the ante of the original story. Either way this will be green lit for at least 4 or 5 prequel films as the backstory of the novel has a fan fiction angle much like all the Halloween movies after the second entry. The film studios are bleeding these ips beyond the farthest imagination.....much like all the Texas chainsaw movies and the rinse and repeat approach that the paranormal activity, saw, and Chucky movies. How many more reimaginings, reboots and remakes do we need. it's pathetic these films make any money at all. The originals were mediocre at best but look out we need more films to embarrass our track record.
