The Omen - Warriors OC PMV

[EDIT: I’ve gotten a few comments asking where the song is from, I made it in GarageBand! No extended version unfortunately, I’m not a musician so this being somewhat catchy was very much a fluke on my part lol]
This is just a quick little video I wanted to make! I've got a few different things in the works right now, but I wanted this one to be done first, since it's got a major plot point for Mudpaw's story! I'm not super happy with the whole thing, but I DO like the animated bit and the ending :)
I used Procreate to do all the drawing/animating, and put it together in iMovie!
Characters in order of appearance:
Owlpounce (clan medicine cat)
Foxjaw (clan deputy [left])
Larkstar (clan leader [right])
Mudpaw (newly-mentorless apprentice)
Story:
In a tragedy the clan couldn't have foreseen, a senior warrior of the clan, Wrentail, dies in an accidental fall from a waterfall. His apprentice, Mudpaw, is left without a mentor. When Owlpounce, the clan's medicine cat, finds a flower growing in the creek's muddy bank, she knows it's an omen from Starclan. She takes on the young cat as her apprentice, in hopes that finding a new purpose will help him come to terms with his mentor's death. However, not everything is as it seems....
Starclan tried to provide a warning to the clan in the form of an omen. Wrentail's death was no accident, and Mudpaw was directly responsible for his death. When the omen Starclan sends is misinterpreted, though, it ends up having wildly different effects than intended.
Starclan: oh, I know! let's send an omen to the clan about this mudpaw guy. i mean he literally killed his mentor. makes ghost pipe flower grow in mud yeah thatll work. it's a GHOST flower, it's coming from MUD, aka, mudpaw made a ghost. this is fool-proof.
Owlpounce: ooo is that a ghost pipe flower? those are good for treating anxiety! wait, in the mud? is this saying that Mudpaw could heal from his anxieties and the death of his mentor through herbs? new apprentice time????

The way Mudpaw flinches as Owlpounce goes to put the flower behind his ear… Although it wasn’t StarClan’s intention, becoming a medicine cat is probably the best thing for Mudpaw. He won’t have to train for battle anymore, wont have to see his clanmates raising their paws to him, as he no longer trusts that their claws are sheathed. Mudpaw and Owlpounce probably had some sort of positive interaction before, as she most likely treated the scar Wrentail gave him. And this will give the other apprentices reason to talk with him, as soon enough he will be the one pulling thorns out of their pads and treating scratches they get. Maybe spying on their training to make sure Whitepaw, Hawkpaw and Puddlepaw’s mentors aren’t causing them. Treating them with the utmost care, trying his hardest to make sure nobody gets hurt the way he did.

Honestly, I’m glad Mudpaw’s omen was interpreted incorrectly. He was a hurt child who was physically abused by mentor. I’m glad Owlpounce had the love in their heart to take them in. I wonder if the cat in charge of sending that omen made it in a way were it could be interpreted as the way it is!!

My only thought is that starclan could have made it more clear by having a bloodied wren feather sticking out of the mud. But starclan likes to make their omens and prophecies vague, so it makes sense why they wouldn't do that.

The idea that Mudpaw got a chance at a better life than he had before because Owlpounce misinterpreted the prophecy makes me so happy. She just didn't think Mudpaw could be the killer, and perhaps because she saw something better in it, she prevented something worse, that Mudpaw could do. I love it when characters get therapy so much

Thinking about it, it was probably pretty easy to transfer Mudpaw into being a medicine cat. Since Wrentail was a respected warrior and he was presumably always talking about how badly Mudpaw was doing things (even if he did them fine) I imagine the clan saw Mudpaw as a pretty unexceptional or even unskilled cat. So when Owlpounce comes by like, "Hey I just got an omen that Mudpaw should train to be a medicine cat!" I imagine Larkstar and the rest of the clan would be like "oh yeah, that makes sense. He wasn't a very promising warrior in the first place so this will be better for everyone, Go ahead." Which probably isn't good for Mudpaw's mixed up emotions. That's the way I see it anyway! Love this!

Well, on a positive note, Owlpounce seems to be a kinder mentor than Wrentail was. Hopefully this can be a chance for Mudpaw to heal a bit, learn a better way to cope with lingering negativity and give him another chance. ... Or it could just give him more chances to harm others... Either way, it'll be interesting to see how it goes.

Owlpounce’s face at 0:29 is heart breaking. Mudpaw is finally seen, looked at with such kindness, but at the cost of becoming a murderer. I hope Mudpaw gets a happy ending. Him being so young and facing the trauma of a physically (and emotionally abusive I presume) mentor definitely screwed him up in the head. You just don’t develop the same way under that kind of stress. I have so many feelings about these warrior cats ocs you are a master at story telling op!!

I adore how you used a Ghost Pipe. Not only does it have a CLEAR meaning in this PMV, it sent a mix signal to Owlpounce, assuming they took this 'good omen' as Mudpaw expirencing a traumatic death and needing a cat to lend him a paw. Owlpounce, in my veiws, seen the Ghost Pipe as Mudpaw expirencing a sorrowful feel to his last mentors death. Since Ghost Pipe's hold the meaning of "Those who may be experiencing a personal/spiritual death and rebirth, assisting in embracing those great shifts within us" - taken off a website. The great shift may be how the mistaken omen turns out to be. And the personal death towards Mudpaw murdering his own mentor in cold blood. This is just my veiw point from what I know little off,, most of this is possibly not correct

I'm really hoping that this misinterpretation will actually end up helping Mudpaw and that having a kind, caring mentor will change his path to be one of less murder. I really do think he deserves to be happy and loved.

I really hope this happens, but then Owlpounce still gives Mudpaw a chance to explain himself and understands why he killed Wrentail, instead of just being like “You killed a cat!EXILE!!”. The murder shouldn’t stay hidden as that’s just gonna eat away at Mud’s mental health forever, but he should get help and be able to move past it. If Mud doesn’t become a happy, healthy medicine cat in the future though, I might cry :’)

Oh my heart, my sweet old heart. The warm nurturing look at the end broke me, poor Mud'Paw has to hide such a secrete. I hope everything well work out for him, though he does need conquences for his actions but then again he is just an apprentice. I just don't want this poor boy put through more horrible expriences.

I can't get over Larkstar's eyes widening once shown the flower. Its making me wonder what Owlpounce is saying to them. i thought i commented on this omg!!!!! i am a FOOL i swear the further you go into this little story, the more i fall in love. i LOVE the fact that owlpounce misinterpreted starclan's message; i always enjoyed the original interpretation of starclan where they can't really interact with the living cats, so their omens can easily be misconstrued. i think it adds an extra layer of cryptic nature that supernatural beings should possess! and mudpaw becoming a medicine cat? i can't wait to see where this leads omg.....because to me i don't think it's ever something he really wanted, but i think him having this shot at starting over could be good (as well as having a mentor who actually cares about him LOL), but ofc that isn't going to erase the trauma he's endured under wrentail. i really do wonder what his experience as a medicine cat will bring and how the dead birds the apprentices found + starclan's REAL message to owlpounce will come into play, and when! i'm still holding onto mudpaw's original concept of becoming a serial killer, and i think it could be quite interesting with him as a medicine cat! we really don't have any medicine cat villains in cannon so seeing fannon works of it ( + your story in general ) is something i am REALLY looking forward to! fantastic job and i am SO EXCITED to see where this goes 👀

From this point forwards there are two obvious ways I can see Mud's story going. Mud could move on and heal Or They will go down a darker path I honestly could see the story as Mud trying to honestly be a good medicine cat despite Starclan's pushback with would be either ignored, taken another way or not noticed by Owl. But who knows what will happen?

I love that it’s shown how great of an influence Owlpounce is going to be on Mudpaw even in this short bit. Owlpounce could have EASILY figured out the intended meaning just based off of the name of the ghost pipe, but *looked deeper* and thought about what the ghost pipe meant and how it was correctly used. A lot of the cats judge Mudpaw based off of his appearance/solitude and leave it at that, like how Starclan tried to condemn him just from the name of a plant, but Owlpounce seems to be someone who would just flat out ignore any assumptions and make their own judgement after finding out how Mudpaw actually is and after he finds his place of what he is meant to do in the clan. Just like how Owlpounce thought about the actual use of the herb and not it’s grim name. The fact that Owl is that kindhearted and positive makes me so happy for Mud because he really does need a shoulder to lean on.

One thing I love about your videos is the way you keep the story going without repeating events that already happened in another PMV. It’s like a scenario where you can’t just click on a random video and understand what’s going on, you have to actually go from the oldest-posted video to the most recent video to know the context. I don’t see a lot of videos set up like these! TDLR/didn’t make sense: I love the way you continue the story in each PMV without repeating events. :)
