Sammmme. I was just a kid at the time when I first saw this and I remember my jaw dropping as he knocked all of those cops on their asses before a single one could hit the ground. I looked this up to see if the scene still holds up now that I'm an adult with more experience with special FX in movies and of course it still is awesome. Better fighting special FX than the matrix in my opinion.

Martial arts, bullet-time, screamo soundtrack, CGI, black leather. The most '2000s' movie ever IMO. And unlike others it still has good world building and decent characterisation. I'd really liked to have seen a spin off series based on Yulaw's turn to evil.
I agree, it’s great. And I have so much nostalgia with this movie

Shitty flick, great action sequences. Just like Gemini Man. I'll put both in the cult classic category just for how awesome the action was.

2:35 I just love how you see the officers slowly lower their weapons in disbelief for a second. They're looking at the exact same guy they were just transporting. And Yulaw gaining that supernatural power after seeing Lawless dead, they're so confused as to what's going on...

And just to remind you. The energy of the dead guys is transferred to the living. At this point there were only 2 left, Yulaw and Gabe Law. Which means, before he killed Lawless, he is only stronger by 40 lives, because he killed 119, but it was divided. The moment he killed Lawless, he got up to 60 lives, dude simply STRONGER BY 50% in mere seccond

I have 2 questions. First: Why haven't they made a sequal or a spin off movie for this?! Second: Why hasn't anyone ever done a film theory about this movie by now? I can't be the only one that's always wondered what would have happened if Yulaw had succeeded and what he would have done afterwards... Or is it just me?

You guys are starting to restore my faith in humanity. I knew I wasn't the only one that thought this. This movie was set up perfectly for a sequal. And not only that, but god knows how many ways they could take it if they did. Honestly, the only thing that sucked about the movie was that they haven't made a sequel. ✌✌
@christopherclark57885 жыл бұрын
I may be wrong but I believe this movie was based on a short story. That would be my guess for why there was not a sequel.
@ninekindzo35695 жыл бұрын
@@christopherclark5788 sounds about right. But just imagine if they made a sequal... Wouldn't necessarily have to be all about Gabe Law. It could also be about another individual who's just as close to their goal...or even succeeded. Maybe a scientist who found a way to eliminate all his other selves across the multiverse and now they have to bring in the One guy who can stop him... So the go and get Gabe. But the twist here would be that now they have to let the 2 Laws fight it out and hope the best one lives...OR the bad one gets killed while in the Hades universe (maybe someone got in a lucky shot with a shank). So now they have to go recruit Gabe from his new life to help fight against this new threat... I just keep imagining the possibility of 2 god-like beings going toe to toe with the fate of the multiverse at stake. One wants to save it, the other wants to rule it, and only one will succeed... It would be one hell of an epic movie...as long as Disney didn't try to take it over and have some idiot like Ryan Johnson come in and screw it up like they did with Star Wars... Sorry, couldn't stop myself from going off on a rant, but that would be about right. Get a kickass idea for a sequal and some jackass would come in and screw it all up...

Then again, I felt the same way when the film first released also, the characters when they switch to cgi animate really oddly and look almost like they are made from plastic. I gotta give it up for Jet Li on this one. Well, not that I wouldn't already for the usual reasons, of course. I'm talking about the fact that this movie went into production after all of about 2 years or so after he did "Lethal Weapon." I'm pretty sure that "Lethal Weapon 4" was his first major studio film outside of China, for which he had but a smattering of phonetically-memorized lines worth of English dialogue. A couple years later, he's practically carrying (no disrespect to Delroy Lindo or Jason Statham) a $49,000,000 action flick, playing both the main protagonist **AND** the main antagonist, and this time he has maybe one line of dialogue in Cantonese, with the rest of it in English. As in "actual, intelligible-sounding English," good enough to show that he has some pretty respectable acting chops. I dunno how hard it is to transition from Cantonese to English, but I **DO** know that if it's anything as challenging as an English-speaker trying to sound out a few simple sentences in Cantonese that don't sound to a Chinese person like Daniel Day Lewis in "My Left Foot" than that guy **REALLY** put the work in. But then again, one doesn't work their way up to being one of the biggest and most bankable action movie stars in the Pacific Rim by being a slack-ass.
