➡ Martin D-18 Acoustic Guitar - Natural:
waltgracevinta...
With Martin, the beauty lies in the simplicity of design and quality of sound. The D-18 is a prime example of this formula, pairing the warmth of Mahogany and the punch of Sitka Spruce with a patented scalloped bracing system in order to create the revered Martin tone. Finished with vintage detailing like classic 18-style appointments, the D-18 is an old soul in a modern body.

The D18 was created with divine intervention! It is THE acoustic guitar! You have a very light hand but when I play mine, especially strumming, it’s a cannon!

My all time favorite acoustic is my 1967 Gibson J45-adj that I inherited. It’s a factory 2nd, the top is warped, back has a big crack from being stepped on and overall it’s starting to look more like Willie Nelson’s Trigger. But it has such a sweet and beautiful sound to it that I haven’t been able to replicate

Bought a beat up 1955 D18 in 1970 for $135. Wouldn't trade it for a D28 or any other rosewood Martin - and I've played a lot of them. 10 years ago I played a 1940 D18 at Gruhn's Guitar in Nasville for an hour in George's upstairs stash along with his old D28s. The MUCH higher priced rosewood vintage D models I played couldn't touch it. Old mahogany gives a much crisper, more balanced sound - with plenty of bass which does not overwhelm the overall sound. I have played some old smaller rosewood Martins I liked a lot...but in the old "D" models - go mahogany.

Though, rosewood fretboard D-18s do exist, as far as I know. I've played a used one in a shop. This seems to just be the standard reimagined D-18, which is indeed ebony.

I bought a ‘67 000-18 in 1972 just after high school graduation. It’s my dearest possession now. I bought a new HD28v in 2003 in order to play bluegrass. At age 70 dreads are too big and I’m back to where I started, mahogany, even for bluegrass. There was no real advantage to buying rosewood over mahogany in 2003 when I bought my dreadnaught, I wanted the forward bracing. Not really that much of a difference.

@@andrewjohnson1573 Common buddy, elec scooter vs Harley, for the money, 80 to 90 % of Martin sound!!! Martin became the music mafia, taking money from people because 50 y ago they had good sound &they were cheap!!
@andrewjohnson1573
@andrewjohnson1573 11 ай бұрын
@@dododale-ni7bf I'll give you that at 10 times the price, they don't have 10 times the sound.. Like you said, sigmas have maybe around 80% of the sound (a bit generous in my opinion, but I'll give it to you). But you're paying for way more than just sound. I don't really care about aesthetics, so we'll skip all of that stuff. The build quality, tuning machines, and most importantly the neck IS 10 times better. Hell, even the 15, 16, and 17 lines within martin can't hold a candle to the feel of 18s and beyond. They are simply unmatched. Is that feel worth 3k? Combine it with 20% better sound on a guitar that I'll be able to give my great grandkids, to me, yes.
