"Too nice to kill us" that’s a good joke, right there, comrade Stalin. There is a reason why German commander started shutting in their pants once they learned they were facing Canadian troops. Here’s an example: it only took us 3 to 4 days to take back the Vimy ridge in WW1 while the allied were trying to take it back for months if not years. Another one is we basically OWNED the term Shocktrooper back in WW1 and we had a policy of "No prisoner" even if you were wounded. And in WW2, while we attacked the second most well defended beach in Normandy, Juno Beach, we got the most in-land out of all attacking country. Here’s another thing: CANADA NEVER LOST A WAR.

Two things: first, you forgot to mention how Major kept taking prisoners and running them back to allied lines throughout the night. Second, regarding his refusal of the Distinguished Conduct Medal, I’m afraid you’ve confused that with another incident, wherein Major was offered the same medal for single-handedly capturing 93 German soldiers. Honestly, this should have been a longer video. Zwolle might be his most famous feat, but there’s a ton of crazy noteworthy stuff the guy did.

There was a Canadian officer in charge of a combined arms unit as part of the "peacekeeping" force in the former Yugoslavia. His unit came under Serbian mortar fire from the surrounding hills. The officer rallied his tank unit, charged the enemy positions, and captured or destroyed all of the Serbian mortar emplacements. Of course, this was not WWII, this was in the modern age of globalist pussy UN kumbaya, so instead of getting a medal he was relieved of his command and shipped back to Canada.

@Patrice Bernier Translated from Dutch to English with Google: „This heroic scenario lends itself perfectly to a film adaptation, but it has not come that far to this day. Perhaps this is for the better, since there are many objections to this story, both practical and factual. […] After he had recovered from a second injury, which he had sustained near Nijmegen, he rejoined his regiment at the beginning of April, which was now near Zwolle. Since the Canadians expected strong resistance due to Zwolle's strategic location, they asked two scouts to take a closer look at the city. Leo Major and his best friend Willy Arsenault reported and set out at dusk. They killed the first Germans they encountered, but when they encountered the enemy again at a railway crossing, Arsenault was fatally shot. Major continued the reconnaissance alone, but encountered no more Germans. They left the city that night and withdrew to the Veluwe. During their retreat, the Germans destroyed the IJssel bridges, just as the Dutch army had done in 1940. They also took a lot of equipment and livestock with them. Major walked through the deserted streets and made contact with the underground. He then returned to his regiment, where at 9 a.m. he reported that the enemy had left the city. The Canadians then entered the city on 14 April via the Assendorp and Wipstrik districts.“

The british may have a stupid like of Montgomery, but Patton still beat him across the Rhine despite being undersupplied intentionally to slow him down.

@@deweshgoenka6111 Patton's supplies were diverted to other Allied generals, to help them keep up. Allied high command didn't want any one general taking all the glory. That's to say, they were focused on politicking while fighting the war. Patton's inclination to aggressive & risky action still had him surging ahead of the pack.

I'm not sure how detailed you want your animations to be but the STEN gun is open bolt and is depicted as closed bolt in the animation.

Anyone else amazed by the level of detail in their movement? Like the wine bottle, the bike tire, the swagger in his walk, and basically everything else. Also this guy's not only a badass, he's a gentleman. Returning the officer's sidearm, letting go of his capetive.

A good rendition of the story! A very accurate one, because this is usually exaggerated quite a lot. I mean its hugely impressive anyway so I dont see the point of not telling it accurately. Shame he wasnt a fan of Monty though. I suppose that's one of those subjective things that people will always argue about. Personally I love Montgomery. He worked hard to keep the men under his command safe. People always bring up Market Garden because they've seen the movie and think they know the history, when he wasnt even in command of the thing.
@commando44813 жыл бұрын
I honestly believe the part about Monty has been made up. There’s no evidence to suggest he said that. And there isn’t much reason for him to hate him.
@commando44813 жыл бұрын
On Wikipedia a Dutch historian points out that there’s no evidence to suggest he was even going to receive a medal let alone turn one down. Another story is that he was late to the ceremony so wasn’t able to be given the medal by Monty.
@AtheAetheling3 жыл бұрын
@@commando4481 interesting..you could well be right. Thank you! I was under the impression that most Brits and Canadians liked or loved Monty because he generally was popular with the men under his command. I had assumed Major hated Monty for being too 'cautious' in that respect, but as you say its entirely possible its made up too. This story is often exaggerated.
@commando44813 жыл бұрын
@@AtheAetheling I’m also a huge fan of Monty. My favourite general of WW2 is Slim but Monty is a close second. Monty was given a difficult job yet he always succeeded. Monty often had to fight the enemy in places where it was difficult to flank around such as Normandy or Italy and then there was the deserts of North Africa which was a logistical nightmare. And unlike the Americans and soviets who had literally unlimited men. Monty did not have that luxury since the British empire was fighting all over the world. Finally in terms of market garden it might not have been so bad had the American 82nd Airborne captured Nijmegen bridge in time then the Paras at Arnhem most probably could’ve been saved. But as per usual the blame is thrown at Monty when for Market garden in my opinion the blame lies with General Gavin of the 82nd.
@AtheAetheling3 жыл бұрын
@@commando4481 preach. When I was little I used to enjoy 'a Bridge too far' and I still respect some of it for certain things...but unquestionably it scapegoats Monty and coddles the 82nd, and has a number of other movie sins that make people who view it think they know what really happened. Its nice to see someone who knows what they're talking about! : )

He was awarded the distinguished conduct medal twice in WW2 the first time he declined it because Bernard Montgomery would have been the one to give it to him but he declined saying he was a blow hard then the second one he accepted he got a 3rd one in the Korean War for holding the line on a valuable hill position against waves of Chinese soldiers
