The one car scoring for the constructors championship ended with the 1978 season Edit In the modern era the only drivers to win the constructors on their own are 2001 - Schumacher 2002 - Schumacher 2004 - Schumacher (note Rubens was only 5 points away from also beating all the teams himself) 2007 - Kimi (due to McLaren's spygate) 2013 - Vettel 2020 - Hammy Side note, however, this is still involving the other driver finishing and taking point off other teams, not "well they could win the whole thing with one car".

Hey Aidan, speaking of Lauda. I saw a community poll today about who's the most influential F1 driver, and got to thinking about how much Lauda did off track, behind the scenes and after retirement. I've heard bits and bobs (mostly from you), and I was wondering if you'd consider making a video on him similar to the dr Watkins video?
@theF1oracle
@theF1oracle Жыл бұрын
Haven't done any research but off the top of my head I'd say stewart was the most influential. He was 1 of the first guys to stand up & say the sport was to dangerous & standards needed to be improved. If I remember correctly he got absolutely tore to bits by the press & called soft & afraid of crashing. One other interesting thing (I can't remember who asked it or answered it) But it went something like 'Many tracks have corners or sections named after legendary drivers, why are none named after Jackie Stewart?' 'Probably because he almost bankrupt them back in the day demanding better crash barriers & medicine support'
@charamia9402
@charamia9402 Жыл бұрын
@@theF1oracle I'm not going to disagree with you on Stewart having greatly influenced the sport. The reason I thought of Lauda was the poll-options being Senna, Schumacher, Hamilton and Other - and Stewart being one of the top choices in the comments. Would love to see Aidan doing a video on Stewarts overall influence too!

Hello Aidan: Thank you very much for mentioning the cost of long distance travel. I am in Sydney, Australia. In the 1960's long distance air travel was so expensive, it was the sole province of people like the The Rolling Stones and The Beatles. Have a lovely day.

Truth is, best driver gets the best car. And if the best driver isn’t in a car competitive enough to be able to bridge the gap by sheer talent alone, they’re not winning. Although some of these seasons are just outrageous, and definitely outliers even if their talent was undeniable. You’re not going to see someone dominate like Clark, Verstappen, Schumacher, Hamilton, etc. that often, and they most often did not. It doesn’t make for great watching, but it’s impressive

Let's remember a very important thing about domination. Everyone hates it when it's happening, but it's then remembered greatly in the future. Best example is Schumacher in 2000's. Everyone and their mother hated those years when they were happening, but no they're glorified, even if a good part of it is because "mUh v10's!!!"

Not a real list video, Aidan, so you can keep your head high! It was fascinating to see how the different point scoring systems worked - "worked" may be a bit of an exaggeration - particularly when there were umpteen Ferraris on the grid. I remember the dropped scores shenanigans, mostly because of the Senna/Prost "controversy". There wasn't any such thing as social media back then, but somehow it was an incredibly polarising event, nationally and, I dare say, internationally! (I'm not saying I don't remember the scoring system prior to that year, just that of all the years, that's the one that sticks most vividly in my memories.) It's lovely to see that Damon could have won that constructors' championship on his own. His is one of the most underrated championships, despite some absolutely epic races, so it's great to see the stats backing me up! (Yes, forever a Damon fangirl 🤷🏻‍♀️)

He was an excellent, solid reliable driver. In a different era, he'd have been one of the best. Maybe, just maybe, he was too nice for his own good, perhaps lacked a killer instinct. But he was very good, and very pleasant to watch. And DC always seemed to be the best friend of all the drivers, he never held grudges and never deliberately shut the door on anyone. He was very slightly underated, for me. Yes, nice guys don't win world championships (wait a minute, where does that leave Hakkinen?), but they can get others there.

I really don't mind listy-feely videos so long as there is genuine content that is, by chance, choice, or necessity, compartmentalized. You're an excellent case in point: Your videos never really feel like lists at all. In my highly scientific estimation it's in large part down to the fact you don't simply rattle off an actual list and call it a day. Turns out script writing is a thing that can be done, and to great effect, at that. Who knew?

The guy is also in another league this year, shame about the hiccup with Aston Martin and strolls lack of pace after being whooped every race weekend and the odd occasion he has been in front of lord of the eyebrows was only because he let him. My fave Alonso race this year was Bahrain and blitzing hamilwhinge in a not normal overtake place, was brilliant, oh his comment after the spank hamilwhinge gave him in spa....he was definitely correct, Lulu fan fight on track has to rely on pit stop and try to undercut or gets lucky with the safety car. Give Alonso checos seat, that would make an interesting race with max.

Maybe the more than 2 cars per manufacturer should be reintroduced, and only the top 2 cars count towards the constructors championship . So currently we could have 3 or 4 Red Bulls. Maybe one of the 2 or 3 other RBR drivers could keep Max honest ! We needed that between 2014 and 2020 , but 3 or 4 Mercs !
@potatogirlcultist19
@potatogirlcultist19 Жыл бұрын
With the whole cost cap thing, they would most likely just stick to two cars anyway, since more cars = more maintanance = more money spent on repairs. They would probably just prefer to spend the money they have on two great cars rather than 3 or 4 half arsed ones. If they just removed the cost cap though, it would be doable. The cost cap hasn't really made much difference anyways. It would also allow promising talent more oppourtunities at F1 seats as well.

Now do one with drivers winning a championship with a inferior car
@MrSniperfox29
@MrSniperfox29 Жыл бұрын
What do you consider to be an "inferior" car? Keke Rosberg won the 1982 championship in a car that was undoubtedly slower than the Ferrari's and Renaults, bot tended to finish more due to superior reliability. He also completed the entire championship unlike the two Ferrari drivers.
@chrisdavidson911
@chrisdavidson911 Жыл бұрын
That can't happen, without taking 1 driver and testing all of the cars of a given season you don't know which one is inferior. Imagine if Lewis got in Lando's McLaren and went as fast as Max's Red Bull, it's unlikely but you don't know that it wouldn't happen, and that's the problem when it comes to measuring how fast a car is. Even then, the fastest car can lose due to reliability, or bad strategy, which would make the slower more reliable car better, so the best car still won. Jackie Stewart beat Jim Clark due to car reliability, winning the championship at the last race. Who's car was better? You could possibly try to measure it by who won the championship while their team mate was 3rd or lower, but that doesn't always tell the true story either. Schumacher's team mates weren't allowed to compete with him, for example. When Jim won one of his championships, getting 100% of the available points, the highest position any other Lotus finished - over the entire season - was 5th. Jim won Spa, in the wet, by over 3 minutes. So, was that Lotus the best car but other people didn't drive it very quickly, did Jim win with a 3rd row car, or, something else?

Do you mean something such as this this; Driver's results are Lotus 1st, Brm 2nd, Lotus 3rd, Cooper 4th, Ferrari 5th, Brm 6th, Cooper 7th, Brabham 8th, Ferrari 9th, and the drivers are given points accordingly. Then the constructors points being given as Lotus 1st, Brm 2nd, Cooper 3rd, Ferrari 4th, Brabham 5th. Instead of the being given as the points for 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th, as it would be when constructors are given the points that the team's highest driver got? If so, then no.
