Someone here asked “imagine the smell”, so I’ll take a crack at it because I feel like being gross: There’s four major and familiar scents multiplied in scale that could contribute to the scent of a being like this if you consider the context clues: Often in gothic literature the smell of rotting and/or burning flesh is described as something particularly associated with a putrid and overripe sweetness (read “The Road” by Cormac McCarthy, most gothic/southern gothic literature and the splatter-punk genre for tons of examples). Imagine the ripe smell coming from a healing scab underneath a band-aid or have you ever had a phase where you pick your nose too much due to minor itch and you start to experience a subtle metallic and tangy pungency everywhere you go? Infections have their own unique scents. Throw in the toxic smell of garbage and refuse and there’s a dampness and moldy smell that’s familiar with anyone that’s walked near an apartment dumpster. This thing is obviously rotting, so it’s exhuming forbidden levels of halitosis from the dozens of skulls. The Mexia Supermarket incident of 1999 doesn’t have shit on the toxicity levels that this guy is unearthing. Sewage is a top contender. Sure, the fresh smell of shit is bad enough from one source if you walk into a restroom but this is an amalgamation of dozens of reanimated bodies that have been lying in wait for eons, so we’re talking an ungodly petri dish of ancient bacteria constantly churning excrement to allow this being to slide around. The closest thing I could think of is walking by a construction site that’s working on a pipeline or an outfall pipe at landfill but increase it manifold. Combined shit from thousands of citizens is possibly the worst smell ever. I’ve unfortunately experienced this scent at a sewage beach in Nicaragua when I was a teenager and it’s an unfortunate reality all over the world. And last but not least, this is Bloodborne we’re talking about and the most common smell associated with Satan, hell and other demons in mythologies and biblical accounts is the elemental compound of sulfur. The closest thing I could think of is the acidic smell of rotten eggs but it has its own unique unfortunate tang to it. Your science teacher most likely owns a stone of this somewhere for their class curriculum if you have a morbid curiosity for it. I wholeheartedly believe that the most common smell following your protagonist in Bloodborne in the majority of the game is sulfur and the metallic smell of blood. In conclusion, this thing is Toxic Avenger levels of gnarly.

Going through the descriptions of the Bell items, we know that the bells originated in the underground Pthumerian Labyrinth and were capable of reaching into other worlds and summoning beings from them. Although humans require insight to use these bells, it's likely that the bell maidens that summon the One Reborn are Pthumerians allied with the church, like the Church Servants and Church Giants. (Even if they aren't, it's likely any humans in the service of the School of Mensis and in Yahar'gul during the blood moon have insight to spare.) It is the point of this theory that the bells used to summon the One Reborn are no different, and that the bell maidens in the One Reborn's arena ring their bells repeatedly and simultaneously en masse to bring a mass of (presumably human) beings from other worlds simultaneously, coalescing all of them into one horrible amalgamation in the process of their summoning. The purpose of this would be to prevent hunters such as the player from interfering with Micolash and Mensis' plots involving the Mensis Ritual and the Nightmare of Mensis. After all, they are likely unaware that the scholars have undergone the stillbirth of their brains and, to the best of their knowledge, are still plumbing the Nightmare for answers from a higher plane. Ordinarily, these bells summon (for good and ill) only beings willing to cross between worlds. It is possible that the humans summoned to form the One Reborn are unwillingly summoned via unknown methods that Pthumerians such as the bell maidens might be privy to. If this is the case, the One Reborn may simply be lashing out in pain and horror at the player. Alternatively, it is conceivable that the humans summoned this way are willing fanatics devoted to the School of Mensis who await in a parallel dimension to be called upon to create a last-ditch defense in the "base reality" of your own game world. If the One Reborn (possibly the "main body" that is prominently displayed atop the monstrosity) has any sentience remaining, it may manifest the combined desires of these fanatics to protect the scholars. Such a case would also explain the inhuman utterances that the One Reborn uses for its "spells", as members of Mensis might have knowledge of such incantations There’s also a theory that perhaps the One Reborn is an attempt to recreate Kos or even the Amygdalas but I don’t know
@alessiobilleci72467 ай бұрын
Yeah, ths recreate Kos bit,if you look at the body composition of the One Reborn it is pretty similar : two long arms in the front, a long and slim torso, a mass resembling a tail of sorts and no legs, and a head with a long neck (the main corpse)
@Syliag77 ай бұрын
Another thing to note is that the area leading up to The One Reborn features a number of petrified humans on the bottom of the walls of most buildings, wich look like they where attempting to scramble and climb away from something. This, in addition to the Cramped Caskets ennemies also in the area, heavily implies that the people living in the unseen village where sacrificied en masse by Mensis in order to create these abominations.
@nachalnik57387 ай бұрын
Imagine being an unfortunate jolly cooperation guy who accidentally got summoned into this abomination
@VelvetMagician7 ай бұрын
@@Syliag7 Honestly it’s entirely possible that Yahar'gul was flooded with blood at some point. The positioning of the 'petrified' or calcified bodies around Yahar'gul indicates that there was a great calamity where they were scrambling on top of each other seemingly to get to higher ground. Some of these people have even been thrown into the walls as if by force. Evidence being how blood can harden and petrify in various descriptions for example: The ritual blood description: Material used in a Holy Chalice ritual. One of the basic ingredients used to satiate a Holy Chalice is this incoagulable blood. When all is melted in blood, all is reborn. Blood Stone Shard description: A solid shard that forms in coldblood. After death, some substances crystallise, but most simply harden and form blood stones. Blood Rock description: A large solid chunk that forms in coldblood. After death, a substance in the blood hardens, and that which does not crystallise is called a blood stone. This is no mere chunk, it is nearly a boulder. This all may actually explain the petrified or stone like appearance of the people.

The key to understanding many of bloodborne's later-game enemies is this: On higher planes, organisms of roughly human complexity (or parts thereof) can more easily fuse into composite beings that then act as a single organism. Practically every unique enemy in blood moon yahargul exemplifies this. This boss isn't some grand design- it's simply an extra-giant pile of dismembered human sacrifice victims, left to rot on a higher plane and now Reborn as One.

Read a few theories on just what the hell Micolash and the rest of Ya'har'ghul were trying to achieve with this thing. One of the most popular suggests that the school of Mensis was trying to resurrect Kos, which isn't a bad theory and I can see why many would see it that way on account of the main controller torso looking a bit like the Orphan of Kos. Another theory points to them trying to create their own Celestial Emissary, a sort of go-between that'll help them communicate better with the Great Ones. The most straightforward theory that I have read is that all of this was the school of Mensis' own attempt at ascending someone to a Great One, akin to Byrgenworth's own attempt with Rom. Whatever they were trying to accomplish, we see for ourselves how they intended to accomplish it and the eventual end result: Liberal amounts of kidnapping and human and even animal sacrifice, every human being in Ya'har'ghul, even Micolash and all of the school of Mensis either dead, completely insane or worse, several amygdalas drawn to the spectacle and, ultimately, the birth of a creature that was neither Kos nor an emissary or even a stupid cosmic pillbug like Rom ended up becoming. It ended up being a huge, oozing, twitching, crawling, rotting sludge.

I wonder where do all those human parts come from? Are they randomly attached to this thing, or they got chosen to be attached because of how they spent their lives?

Has anyone ever figured out what/who this thing was supposed to be? I always assumed it was maybe a flesh golem amygdala but I’m pretty sure I’m wrong.

The fight for me it't a 6/10 but the design man... I think it's one of the most expressive of bloodborne world building 🌌🔥🤯
