The One Ring RPG Strider Mode (breakdown and play examples!)

I have found that follow up solo plays tend to get much less engagement than the initial video. I occasionally do a second or third, but generally my solo plays are now more focused on instructional play and getting new players acclimated to the process. That said, if there was a large demand to revisit, I’d never rule out doing another.

@@booksbricksandboards783 I've played a bit with Ironsworn. The solo experience is amazing, but there are a LOT of moving parts. Also, the setting is a blank slate, which isn't a necessarily bad thing. But when you can jump into Middle Earth with a more streamlined system... Yeah.

Funny you mention Ironsworn. I have all the Ironsworn books being shipped to me now. I have a plan to play several more games of Strider mode and then play some Starforged. Interspersed with my regular content.

One comment of correction. The shortcut isn't automatic, it is usually tied to a skill roll of hunting, awareness, or explore and then must be explained how the character finds the shortcut. A shortcut also doesn't advance the character a hex it only makes the length of the journey a day shorter.

Sure thing! I start with the full Strider mode document, then the One Ring errata, then Pages 93-103 of the core book (combat), pages 104-115 (councils) and pages 143-157 (bestiary). Pretty well covers the topics you’d need to reference during play, at least what isn’t on the screen.

Thanks for the video. I have the core book and hadn't realized that Strider Mode had been released. Question: is the ranger class the only class you can play in Strider Mode?

No, you can use any hero.

It's just called Strider Mode as a nod to the fact Aragorn was a loner prior to the Fellowship, in the same manner that you play solo instead of a party It doesn't limit what kind of character you can be, it just amends the rules to account for being a solo character

How do you get the Strider Mode compendium? i bought the core rulebook as well as the starter set but it didnt come with either of those. Can't find it on free leagues store page either

Strider mode is a $5 downloadable file from Drive Thru rpg. I put it in a $2 binder from Wal Mart and page sleeves. I then printed out the sections of rules I would be regularly using from the core rules PDF (combat, counsel, exploration) and added them to the same binder. It makes the game much more accessible at the table in my opinion.

Not quite, then the channel would be Books, Bricks, Boards and Beans… I do like coffee so not a bad idea!
