That's the whole point Neal. They don't want us to understand; makes it easier to take advantage of us.

Good rant, Neal. The copyright rules are clear as mud to me, too. I’ve had some copyright issues where publishers chime in to share the revenue. And I don’t mind that, actually. They wrote the tunes, so they should make some money. But don’t take the videos down. I’m teaching their songs and keeping them in the public’s eye. So let’s share the revenue. But I removed videos from artists like the Eagles, for that reason. They are notorious copyright strikers. The fact that old Irish tunes are still covered by copyright is baffling.

I’ve had fun instances where the performance video of a song was fine, but the tutorial video got the warning. Me just sitting there talking about chords was bad, but actually playing the song was fine? Who knows- I just uploaded ‘em and hope they’re good. The vast majority have no issues whatsoever :) Have a great day Mike!

I didn't realise that songs like Greensleeves, etc have copyright as I thought that songs had a limited expiry date but obviously not I always enjoy your videos mate and always helps me Please keep going 🙏

I cancelled my own channel & deleted all my videos over their 🐂💩... I never made the first cent off of it anyway, so I certainly wasn't gonna let them continue to make ad revenue off my efforts...

Understand the frustration. Other cooking and keto channels I watch are getting warning about talking about health and foods. Guess if does not fit a narrative gets a warning. Thanks for all your teaching.

I know - I’ve been dealing with this for a long time as well. Those copyright things are people wanting to share ad revenue with you. If you look at those copyrights it will be a company in South America (it’s all a scam). I play mostly hymns (super old ones) and in the public domain. So you can dispute those claims (and I’ve spent time doing that on SOME of my videos). It takes time, and is a real pain but I’ve never once lost a claim. So what I think is that you are confusing copyright law and copyright claims (they just want ad revenue). When I get them (and I get them a LOT) I either take the time to dispute it by saying it’s public domain and providing proof via links to the date the song was published, OR I’ll just turn off monetization. YT makes is super easy for anyone to make a claim on your videos, and they can claim it on ANYTHING, even stuff that has long been in the public domain.

I don't know much about it, but I do know that copyright laws apply not only to the music itself, they apply to copyrighted performances as well. A performance, or even an arrangement, of a very old piece of music may be copyrighted.
@COMANDOLIN25 күн бұрын
I could see that, but I never play any recordings or performances. I’m just some guy messing with the D minor scale in my basement. Luckily, it doesn’t happen very often :) Have a great day!

So all these little bands covering songs all over the world, are breaking copyright laws? I think KZbin tries to find any way to demonetize a video. Then they will slap an ad on the same video and make money from it. I started posting videos on Rumble. I’m not in it for the money. I haven’t had a video demonetized yet.
@COMANDOLINАй бұрын
I’ve never had one demonetized - it just says “copyright” sometimes. Someone else just mentioned Rumble. I’m afraid I hadn’t heard of that one :)
@RedneckandPinayАй бұрын
@ yes, the video is ineligible for monetization because of copyright. I’ve gotten those many times, because I walk past a karaoke or live band playing in the background

I find that all of the social media platforms can be inconsistent when it comes tovthe rules. My guess is that there is a technology based sort of surveilance that picks up on sonething and then dings you However, if you can get a real person to look your issue, it might be determined that you are OK. How can it be that other people are posting Greensleeves tutorials without any apparent problem. Does KZbin have something lije the equivalent of a customer service contact? I lesrned a trick from a career that involved navigating a lot of bureaucracy - If I was told that I couldn't do something because of a rule or regulation, Iwould ask whoever told ne that to cite tge regulation. Most of the time, no such regulation exists. If it can ve cited, I could figure out how to avoid violating the regulation.
@COMANDOLINАй бұрын
I don’t believe they have any sort of phone # or person. I’ve certainly never heard of such. I’m not too worried about it - I don’t have any actual copyright strikes. I’m just curious as to what the rules are :) Good to hear from ya :)

You can pay for rights for pop music, it’s not cheap. But a channel as big as Beato I bet he pays for licenses. There’s multiple agencies and they’re $1000s a pop. The Irish stuff should be fine unless it was recorded by another artist and maybe your work sounds like it unknowingly? Does Irish music have a different copyright rule than here in the US? Sorry this is happening it’s unnerving for sure.

Hey bud - no sweat at all :) It’s a rare thing to get one of these little warnings and the channel is in no danger. I’m just confused as to what constitutes a copyright warning. Hope you’re having a great day!
