@@ekaterinakuznetsova Lol. I’m aroace, but when I was in high school, we didn’t really have that sort of information yet, and asexuality was still listed as a mental health disorder at the time and there was no information about being aromantic that I could find, so I was just super confused because _something should have been happening by now, right?!_ I still remember girls from my class trying to figure out who I liked and if I was a lesbian or not. They went through every boy in class, and then they’d grill me to see if I liked any celebrities that they considered to be attractive. I didn’t, and they were convinced that I was lying, but at the same time, they couldn’t make sense of the fact that, by my facial expression, I was seemingly genuinely uninterested in all of them, so they came to the conclusion that I was a master at not giving it away. Then, because I felt like something was wrong, I proceeded to look at my classmates, picked the most conventionally attractive one, and thought, “…Yeah, I’ll have a crush on that guy,” and then I proceeded to do nothing with that thought and told nobody and forgot about it in less than a week because it meant nothing to me. It was just like I was ticking off a box on my list of milestones so I felt less weird and left behind. Haha.

@gabbalaba.g77622 жыл бұрын
(Im so sorry this is so long 😭) Hello! So I absolutely can't guarantee that I can explain this in a way that can be understood, but I hope my experience w/ crushes of both guys and girls can offer some insight or a form of clarity!💛 So in my personal experience, I would describe a crush in general as a fluttering, nervousness and adoration when I think of the person's qualities, such as their appearance (their kind smile, their expressions, style, overall energy, etc.) and their personhood (such as talents, capabilities, aspirations, empathy, sociability, etc.) As I got to know them more, these qualities would heighten one another and influence e/o - for ex., if I liked someone's ability to bring positivity to their peers, I would associate that attribute with their smile and like that physical characteristic even more. This would make me wish I could be around them more often, share fond memories together, be allowed in their personal world and space (holding hands, leaning on e/o, hugging, etc.) and being someone who held a unique and special place in their lives that was different from that of a friend, best friend, or family friends. The crush can vary based off of which side of the attraction spectrum you lean towards, whether you mostly only have visual information about the person you have a crush on, or whether internal qualities are the main thing you find in your crush. You can take this a step further - I recently experienced my first love, and the reason why I wanted her to be in my life forever was because she simultaneously gave me a sense of security and healthy challenge in my personhood, she uplifted me and we tried to influence positive development in e/o, we made future plans far out into our adulthood as a couple and being integrated as partners, and (I felt at least) we brought out the best in e/o. This can also be mirrored platonically, but I think the major difference is that you land in the middle of the attraction spectrum mentioned earlier, and you more importantly want to hold the special place of life partner in their world, not limited to friends (you'll feel limited with the title of "friendship" alone, and you'll feel the desire to be considered something more). I hope this helps on some level, and it's okay if your journey to finding yourself continues on, there's no rush to self recognition! ^-^

We used to flirt with each other, although I was probably the only one who hoped it wasn't platonic. So after that year of being hopelessly in love with her, she suddenly decided to tell me about this guy who had asked her out. They both shared feelings for each other. But she couldn't say yes, due to several reasons. Let me tell you, I bawled my eyes out. I felt numb and so depressed. But as her closest friend, she trusted me with it. I pretended like I was happy for her, and I supported her. Eventually she said yes to him, and they're such a cute couple rn. It took me a while to get over her, but after a month or so, this guy and I started talking. We both had crushes on each other, and he finally asked me out. I am a straight dude who struggles to get crushes as well, though not when I was younger. Basically, I felt lust, so I'd just date a girl and be romantic for her, then get my sex out of it. There was one time I did end up falling in love, hard. I spoke with a cute coworker I specifically did not want to try to date, but in our first meeting she just seemed to really agree with views I hadn't even realized I had, and had similar interests. Without even trying to be smooth, I told her, "I really have to go, but I would keep talking to you if I could. Can I have your number?" Now that that's over, I don't know if I'll ever fall in love or get a proper crush again. Being honest about who I am while maintaining the actions of a good person is effective enough to get me a girlfriend with mutual trust, though.

@@poisonivory6017 he just mentioned he's straight lmao. Also u can be perfectly off the spectrum and still struggle with maintaining crushes. Its only when crushes develop into smth more than a crush that you actively want more with that person. Otherwise its perfectly normal to lose interest in a crush. Media and kids play it out like crushes are the holy grail and be all end all of things when its just a silly concept of temporary attraction.

@@mcbedo6568 I was making a suggestion based off of my own experience. It's completely fine if you yourself don't feel that way, I really don't care. And from what I have seen at my high school, people tend to get a crush and want to be with the person even without it developing into 'something else' whatever that something else is. Other than that I can't say much else because I haven't experienced romantic attraction to anyone. I don't believe that crushes are the be all and end all as an Aromantic Asexual person, it is quite the opposite.

When I was 13 I desperately needed to reassure myself that I'm a "normal" straight girl, so I picked a random boy in a camp. My friends made me confess whatever I felt (or didn't feel) for him. Long story short: it was HELLA awkward, he was HELLA shocked, I was HELLA gay and in the closet. We even held hands and I thought, "Oh wow, there it is, it's butterflies!'', but in reality I was really shy and nervous and the whole thing was quite a mess. I also didn't know that women could have crushes on each other, so whenever I spotted a beautiful lady I just STARED intensively and one day my mother caught me oggling on scantily clad lingerie models in a magazine so I made an 'amazing' excuse that I just appreciated how neat their underwear was😭

I'm on the Aro-Ace spectrum. As in both spectrums at once. I've never had any true crushes. I have however, started feeling romantic feelings for one partner after I started dating her. That is my current girlfriend, and we're happy. But also I have this thing that comes with my aro-ness where when I'm not around her, my feelings kinda fade and I feel insecure in romance, but then I see her again and I'm like, "Awooga, gawd dayum! 😫" then the cycle repeats. But that's how all of my relationships are and how they always have been (with non-men anyways).

Omg I thought I was the only one with the last part! I assume it also comes from my aromantic side, but it's gonna be worse soon because my partner and I might have to be long distance in the upcoming months. Hopefully calling them would help, but I feel you. Glad you and your girlfriend are happy!

It feels like the alloromantic-aromantic spectrum is really hard to define, I don’t think I’ve had a crush after the age of 3, but I’m still kinda convinced I’m fully alloromantic. As much as I don’t want to develop a crush at any point in my life, I feel like it’s entirely possible, but the fact that I haven’t during almost all of my conscious years on the planet may be evidence for otherwise.

I mean, i dont think you're meant to have a million crushes in your lifespan. 2 sounds...fine? If you're sure you're aro/ace that's fine, but basing it off the number of crushes is kinda ridiculous. Crushes come and go and for some its just never a thing. Doesnt necessarily mean you have to slap on a label onto yourself just yet. I remember I somehow gaslit myself in elementary school into liking certain people of the opposite gender based on like.....names or something but also being like "man I'd totally kiss my friends of the same sexuality. Platonically. Because it's normal for homies to kiss each other." but ALSO ALSO being really confused about depictions of romance in media because I thought people only had crushes on their close friends and anything else was, and I quote, "inaccurate depictions of romance," which led me to hate love stories for a very long time.

Story of me being creepy and oblivious: Let's call her "Lillian" I was in 6th back then and I didn't really know girls could like girls and thought I was just idolizing this one girl in class. She was really pretty and had the same hobbies as me. One of those hobbies were reading. So after class, I would ask my parents to come with me and Lillian to the library to buy story books to read. My parents would agree and Lillian's parents agrees too. Whenever we would go to the Library, I would purposely sit (extremely) close to Lillian. And my only explanation when she would ask why I'm being so close was "oH I cAnt SeE iF I dOnT SiT cLoSe tO yOU" and somehow that would always work. There was this time where we had to do a group project and I really wanted to be grouped together with Lillian. But sadly, Lillian already had group mates. I was a bit sad that I couldn't do the project with her, but I knew that she had to go to the library to get info for the project. Sooo- I would follow her to the library without her knowing and watch her read books. (Creepy ik) I remember I originally brought a camera with me to take pictures of plants and stuff for the project, but instead of taking pictures of plants, I ended up taking a picture of Lillian and ran away. There was a point where I knew I was starting to get creepy so I stopped going all out just to get near Lillian. I told my most trusted friend that my attitude towards Lillian was starting to get weird and asked if there was something wrong with me. She literally replied with "Oh, you might have a crush on her" ... Yeah. I was so confused by her reply back then and told her I can't date a girl if I'm a girl too. I remember her laughing and then just leaving. Months passed and my crush for Lillian didn't disappear. There was a time where Lillian got so close to my face when I told her I was sick. She told me she was "inspecting my face" so she got close. My face started burning even more when she got closer so she told me to go to the nurse's office. I still thought I was only idolizing her after that lmao. We graduated elementary, and we got separated classes. We lost touch after a while because she had new friends. Turns out she came out as bisexual in grade 7 and started dating a girl. So basically I lost my chance with Lillian and moved on with life. Had to get rid of all my Lillian photos hanged up on my wall though.

I also remember picking a random boy to satisfy my friends but in the long term it didn’t matter because we are all not straight now. I like didn’t register women were also an option until I was like 12. Edit: I remember finding my highschool crushes tumblr to anonymously ask what she would do if an underclassman asked them to a dance. They thought it was sweet but they had a boyfriend. I cried. Can relate to doing sad, cringe things in highschool.

For the actual question on the duration of your crush and the no differentiation between platonic and romantic, I recommend looking into aromanticism. Many terms within aromanticism could describe what you're looking to express like Quoiromantic, which means someone can't tell the difference between platonic from romantic feelings. The aromatic community is very welcoming and there are many resources you could look into (On KZbin, websites etc.). Hope that helps!! :D
@Direblade112 жыл бұрын
So this is a question from the outside looking in, forgive my ignorance: are these labels like "Quoiromantic" used as things to identify as, like being gay/straight/bi? What confuses me is that many of these labels amount to, "I can use this to describe me because I struggle with these concepts" as well as, "I literally cannot feel these concepts. From my perspective, it looks like using these labels could confuse people who just haven't met their type of weird yet, and lead them down a path they might find lonely. P.S. Again, no judgement. I don't understand the perspective of being aromantic or asexual, so my views are coloured differently, but I'd like to learn.

I kinda suggest maybe starting small by asking what they're doing (if they're drawing, writing, or whatnot). And build a convo about it right there. Kinda worked for me.

14:38 I am neurodivergent like faline and I just found an lgbt identity and flag recently that represents how neurodivergents have a hard time differentiating platonic vs romantic attraction, which I found quite fascinating…. Maybe that’s it? Yes, me and faline are just wired differently…

I’m actually questioning if I’m not demisexual because of this. Like I’ve never really been interested in having a partner. But for some reason, when someone is nice to me and we have such a great conversation, I start admiring their personality a little too much and suddenly feel sexually attracted to that person even if they are ugly a hell! And it happens with any types of gender although I do believe I’m straight. But the thing is, I also believe I might be neurodivergent and that could explain why I mix platonic vs romantic attraction.

I'm on the aromantic spectrum and with hindsight of the single person I'm head over heels for, what I thought in the past were crushes was just platonic attraction, and even then it's a fuzzy line so I feel that

I thought I was gay, then I thought I was bi, and now I have concluded that I am asexual and therefore all the crushes I have had previously were all insignificant girls and boys who were very popular or pretty. P.s I relate to the rollercoaster of love you went through in school

Kay these are my tips : If when speaking to the person in question romantically (what I mean by this is them asking about your love life, or flirting with you) you get butterflies this is a sign! If you do you probably just feel very strongly about that person and respect them. I found out I liked girls when i started getting nervous when speaking to girls who I knew were gay. Just because I wanted to be with them. I hope this helped lol 😰

As a pansexual female, I absolutely get this. I always had female crushes but I couldn't even get myself to go and ask them out; probably because I am in Asia and everybody doesn't like the idea of THE GAYS. Until now I still have this problem approaching females that I get to like. I think it's terrifying and I don't think I'll ever be the one to say to a girl that I like her 😭
@edayavuz1667 Жыл бұрын
The Only way out of this is to raise awareness in some way, so there's communication between the LGBT and "normal" people. How will you go out with someone or even have friends that respect you for who you are if you can't talk abt who you are? They usually have some kind of political group in those homophobic countries. Maybe theres some little things that you can do to help?

You can always use dating apps. That's where you will find your people who want the same thing as you. But dating in general is messy regardless whether you are straight or not.
