I never comment, however, I found this gentleman’s short video the other day, and now this one. Lifting the left handle totally changed my ball flight and overall distance. My index over the last five rounds has gone from 12.4 to 10. Every round broke 80 and one was a 74. I am 71 years old and just drove the ball 321 yards! Yes, that was exceptional but I’ve had a 307, several 290+ and more fairways. In addition, the only fairway wood I carry is a 4 wood. By lifting the left handle, I’ve added 20 yards to that as well. My playing partners love it and my best buddy who was getting one stroke is now getting five! I don’t know any of you, and you probably think this is bull, but I assure you it’s the gods honest truth. I’ve never been more happy with my golf game. Thank you thank you thank you.

Can you explain the # 2 “lift the lead arm to raise handle higher” move? Surely when both hands are in the handle then both lead AND trail arms are higher? Or do you rotate the lead arm? Presumably this changes club face alignment What am I missing?

Hi Todd. This is the best tip via video about driving-hands down. The only question I have about it is that I find myself pushing the ball, i.e. a straight and powerful shot to the right that doesn't draw back. Especially when I hit hard. A pro said that this tip made me take the club too much inside, especially the right elbow. How do I avoid this push? Keep up the good work. If you didn't live that far from me, I'm in France, you would see me at your doorstep for lessons.

Allan Patrick - New Brunswick Canada Todd: I've read "the Bad Lie" many times and reviewed the VLS videos countless times. Tempo has always been my issue and if quick at all from the top my focus on the ball is lost and I come out of the shot. After several very bad rounds I took a few days off and got to the crux of the problem. Transition and the beginning of the downswing are hard things to describe, even in your book. What I have found with the recent range time has helped immensely. I make sure I get to the top, and let traansition drop the club followed by gradual increase in club speed, never too fast to pull me off the ball. I can now keep focussed on the ball, and by the time the club gets to parallel I can drive through to finish. This has been a massive revelation, only possible with all the VLS setup and positions grooved in. Now I feel I am truly able to use what I've learned from your book and videos. Excited!

I've had pretty good mechanics, occasional draw, often straight, too often fade. After all these years of playing, these swing-path hoop demonstrations made me realize a fade/slice is not a bad swing, just the natural mechanics of a forward ball placement. Anyway, I tried the high hands tip, and that alone changed my ball flight. Now I have something to work with this summer. Thanks Tod!

Excellent content. I’ve been struggling with a fade leading into a slice on bad shots forever (62 now). The last few weeks I’ve been doing pretty much what you’ve described and I’m seeing a lot more drawn drives. Yesterday playing a local course, I drew every single ball and hit every fairway except two, and they were only just off. Came in with a 77…best ever! Boom!! 💥

This is the best video I have seen on how to hit the driver. Only found this video yesterday, and I tried this at the range last night - I simply could not believe the results! I'm finally whipping the ball rather than steering it with my arms; it feels effortless and I gained at least 60 yards, consistently. A bit more practice required to gain confidence to do this on course, but this is the advice I have been looking for, for a very long time. Lifting the left hand on setup, then keeping the club head above the hands on takeaway ensures the natural transition to the inside and then raising the shaft to point outside the line on finish, are key swing thoughts for me, rather than constantly worrying about turning over the hands at impact, which is so hard (impossible) to do, if the clubhead is too low on takeaway, as demonstrated in the video.

I'm still not hitting a draw with my driver, but I am driving it straight and much farther than I have since I started playing again (10 year hiatus). I have gone from weak 200 yard slice drives to a 240-260 yard drives. I also watched your video how to draw your irons and am now hitting a slight draw on my irons. Before I implemented these 2 videos I was a bogey golfer in my league...my last 9 hole round was 2 over 37! Thanks for the videos! They have helped tremendously.

Todd, great tips! Lucas KY here. I've used the toe tip flare for improved balance...and confidence during my swing. You also had a tip to close the stance a tad to get a draw. So after getting my alignment to my target line, I rotate a couple degrees to the right. Low ànd behold, I can now see my club head square to the ball! With the club head at rest about three inches behind the ball, I'm now swinging up as I make contact and square with the club face. + 20 to +40 yards, much better run out, and finding more fairways! Your tips and teaching make sense, are practical, and deliver results! Thank you!

Allan Patrick - New Brunswick Canada A challenge for me is tempo. It's the critical point at the top when I pause and then the acceleration through impact should begin. When it works all is fine. When I lost the feeling of the top, the arms start down too quickle, pulling me off the ball and a whole range of mishits occur. Any tip on transition? Would be a grest help to me.

Have read your book, The Bad Lie, and have tried VLS at indoor range with very good results. In book you talk about dropping hands in transition, while keeping your hips and shoulders slightly closed. Is this a swing thought to start transition to promote inside to outside swing and draw ball? Highly recommend book. The freedom of arms in swing is going to make me a better golfer. Waiting for snow to melt to get outside.

Hi Todd, Mark Vreeland from Chesterfield, MO. I just watched the driver draw video and I understand what you were showing and explaining but for all the time that I have been playing I have always hit a cut or fade. I can start the drive down the left side of the fairway and have the ball fade back to the middle or middle-right. Seldom do I hit a horrible slice unless I get my hands way out in front. I will try your recommendations next time I go to the driving range to see if I can get the draw working. My question to you is regarding the fade - in my set up; I tilt my right shoulder down normally by holding my driver out in front and then slightly tilt my shoulder to the right. The fade is still there. If the fade isn’t there then the ball goes rather straight - sometimes straight left and no fade. When that happens I am leveling off my shoulder? Let me know what you think. Thanks for all the great content. Look forward to hearing from you.

Mark, if you have good ball control don't be afraid of the fade, if it aint broke, don't try to fix it. Not a big fan of level shoulders with the driver as we like to hit up on the ball when possible. A slight tilt to the shoulders promotes this motion. Hope that helps...

My comment is not about hitting the draw but came to mind watching this video. My question revolves around where the hands are in the back swing with the vernicle line swing. With the VLS my initial thought was bring hands high on the back swing. I noticed in this video that your hand are near or below the level of your shoulders. So drawing a line from the ball to your shoulders and one to your hips, the hands are between the two lines. Can you comment on the position of the hands at the end of the back swing and the impact this has on your swing and ball impact. Thanks ken

Enjoying your videos. I have a request for a video or a series of videos. I'm basically self-taught from books and articles years ago. But I have taken a few lessons and I'm watching videos now a days. My wife (66 years old) is trying to learn golf - 2 or 3 years. So far I have not been able to get her to take lessons. She wants me to help her (by the way, it is a bad idea to every try and teach a family member). I really don't know enough about what I'm doing and she has issues to deal with that are not the normal for the average golfer. So far I have not been able to find videos or articles addressing these. Hope you can help. 1. She is short and stout - 4'11". 2. She has erosive osteoarthritis very bad in her back and hands. 3. Her fingers / knuckles look a lot like rheumatoid arthritis. 4. Because of the arthritis she does not have a lot of strength in her hands and does not get a lot of rotation. 5. She has large breasts that get in the way. What we have done to try and help is: 1. She wears Bionic ReliefGrip Golf Gloves on both hands. 3. She uses a baseball grip as she cannot interlock or overlap without pain. 4. We have oversize grips. 5. She wears a velcro waist band while playing. If you could work in a series of lessons all the way through driver, fairway woods, hybrids, irons, short irons, basically everything; I think you would address an audience that probably needs help. Thanks for your consideration.

Hi Todd. Great video. I have played baseball most of my life and most recently squash. I dabbled in golf off and on and now that I am retired I want to play more and get better at it. Played only four or five times a year. The VLS swing intrigues me because just like a bat or even squash raquet you bring it up high around the shoulders and not low around the back. I have just got your book and have read it. My question is you say to use the overlap grip . I use the 10 finger grip. What little I play I know I am a slicer. Should I switch my grip. From great white north Canada.

Steve, we suggest focusing on the area of the ball and be more in tune with your body moving in space. Getting too ball focused can cause tension and overthinking.

Went out this morning in the light snow & used this method for the 3rd time on the driving range. Further in the air , a lot straighter with the Driver , #4 & #6 Hybrids for second shots very straight , high in the air average 160 - 195 yards in the air the driver was even longer & good air I am now able to release & swing for the fences not bad for an old man ( 71)

I have tried this today at the driving range. The last 30 balls I hit were all draws. Sometimes I have to much draw and low flight. Sometimes the ball starts way right and then draws back. I just have to figure out what I am doing with those shots? This is the first time in 40 years of golf that I was able to draw the ball consistently. I am a give me steps to set up type player when setting up to hit the ball. This is great. 1 step at a time for set up.

I’m Jack from Gilbert, AZ. I’ve watched this video several times, and I’ve implemented the slight raise of my lead arm during setup. However, when you move on past the setup to the takeaway, and eventually to the full swing, your setup does not include raising your lead arm. When move to the takeaway, I cannot see your lead arm because it’s blocked by your trail arm, unlike when you’re demonstrating the setup.
