I'd never seen a lesson so simple and disrupting at the same time. It may be a little challenging to get used to this pattern, but it's really easy to understand, so you're halfway there. It's no go knowing shapes or something if you don't really understand what you're doing with your instrument! And what about this gentleman's powerful, deep and smooth voice? I bet he can sing as good as his bass playing. He seems to master his voice as he speaks. Thanks a lot, my brother! Here's some love from Brazil!

OK, This is insane!!! It's a very simple concept, BUT this concept gives you such facility and movement throughout almost any scale ( I personally consider modes and scales the same thing/ different versions of each other. As in Ionian = 1, Dorian = 1a. and so on) This lesson is a blessing!!!!! Thank you Rich Brown!!!!!

It does. It's such a great sound. One cool melodic minor exercise you could try is playing the 'odds' up to the 11th, then coming down the scale to the root. Playing this on all the modes in order makes for a beautiful etude.

Yes, this video could have been 6 min. But then we would have missed the expansion possibilities. So don't worry about a short video. A teacher shows the lesson. To me, simple things are often the most elegant. A good friend of mine said it thus, If something has two parts, each part must be right or it will not work. If there are 43 parts, if one piece is not quite perfect, you can jiggle the next 42 pieces and make it all work out in the end. Thanks again Rich.

@@richbrownbass Hi Rich, I'm working on this exercise again today, and I have a quick question about fingering the natural minor scale. Ascending, you explained/showed that you use 134 on both the 4-fret spreads (on E and A strings) and 5-fret spreads (on D and G strings). Is it okay to use 134, 134, 124, 124 instead?
