I found that I had to replace my manifold with a load balancer system because when you're low on biomass, the back burners don't get enough to stay on.

I am only using wood as input to my biomass burner setup. You can set the chainsaw to single mode and get wood without all the leaves. I usually setup a third intake for mycelium since in a several areas you get that too when clearing land. It makes a bunch of biomass and while you are still using biomass burners, you don't really need all that after you make the parachute.

Biomass is now very viable it’s awesome. 3 storage containers. One for leaves, wood and mycelia. Throw them in constructors with somersloops to double output. Turn biofuel into solid biofuel with somersloops again, 4x the biofuel from whatever you harvested. Slam down 25 burners to get around 800MW going, fuel them easy with all that, automate it - you can ride that out to the end of tier 5-6, that’s wild.
@theral0564 ай бұрын
I would highly recommend one improvement on this. In front of the storage for solid biofuel, you have space for one more biomass burner. Add that one in, with a splitter inbetween. That burner will have dips on up to 50% of your solid biofuel production. That first burner then connects to the machines making the biofuel. If you run out of biomass to make more solid biofuel, that generator for your setup will still have full inventory and means your setup can get right back to producing more once you went chopping some trees. That way, if your main fuse blows, it does NOT affect your production of solid biofuel in any way. You just chop some trees, throw in the mats, and go off doing whatever while the other generators get filled again. No manual fiddling to kickstart the energy grid up again just to make new fuel. Just put in the leaves and wood, walk away and a few minutes later you just flip the switch to power your main base up again.

Instead of the merger in between the two constructors making biomass I highly recommend a storage container instead, then feed all biomass to your solid fuel constructor. I've been running this set up for quite some time (modded belt fed power before it was built in).
@setakh4 ай бұрын
I have it in my setup too, but watching how he did it, makes me wonder if it's useful at all? Not sure if you'd lose efficiency, considering its burning slowly in the biomass burners plus there is no 100% uptime with the resource its made of (leaves and trees) either. Or am I missing something?
@Duurti4 ай бұрын
@@setakh Yeah the thing backs up no matter what you do because of the slow burn so it just shoves the biomass into a storage instead of sitting on belts. This way it can keep producing at least til the storage fills rather than the belts.

2:33 The only problem here with creating a manifold line instead of a load balancer, is that the inputs (leaves and wood) of this system are not infinite nor a constant rate. So, when you run out of inputs which can happen, you will end up with the first two burners having full fuel, while the other ones are empty. I dont think thats the right solution here.
@NachitenRemix4 ай бұрын
Manifold line doesnt have that disavantage literally everywhere else where your inputs are automatic machines which always produce exactly the same items no matter what.

But where do you get your electricity for your 2 first constructor if this the base of your power grid? And where is your global output of electricity at?
@marcbennett92324 ай бұрын
not a bad setup, but I have a few ideas if you want to upgrade it! instead of merging the biomass, add another constructor for the solid biofuel then merge the lines. that way your mk2 line for the central manifold actually does something. then add a third empty container next to your wood input and merge it with the solid biofuel. this is to merge in any extra solid biofuel you may have after running around with your chainsaw. next step, double your biomass burners to 24. they only consume fuel when needed so the more you have the slower they burn fuel. lastly, at the end of the manifold, belt the extra around a storage container placed next to your solid biomass input. this is your solid biomass overflow. the purpose of this is so any biofuel that makes it through the manifold can be used if you have a power failure. since the container is right next to your solid biofuel input, you can just belt the overflow into the input and restart your grid while you go collect more biomass some may say this is all overkill, and you would be right! but ive played a lot of SF+ and this setup has helped immensely. and on the plus side, it burns so slowly I only have to hunt biomass once, maybe twice before coal.
@braize62794 ай бұрын
This is awesome. Every game it's always just "rush to coal" in the most sloppy way possible, just so you can automate power. Now I can dink around and actually make proper and good looking setups, instead of dealing with running around to all the biomass? Damn, talk about quality of life. I'm going to spaghetti the hell out of this, just because I can. Call it "organized chaos" 😃
@absolutcabbagery36614 ай бұрын
Brand new to the game, the reason they didnt have an input on the biomass burner is probably cause dinks like me might mistakenly assemble 32 together and consequently run around the map like a madman gathering as much meat as possible to feed into a solid biofuel line, and now my game is a hell spent desperately trying to fuel the monster I created with blood gathered from throwing tnt at everything that moves trying in between the desperate combats to put together enough materials to make an automated coal plant powerful enough to escape this nightmare
@Poke-ladd4 ай бұрын
Wait biomass has inputs now?
@hybricechess4 ай бұрын
This method is ok, but the last 4-6 biomass burners will lock up due to too little input. Each time you split the conveyer it divides the input by 3. Your first few rows will get all the biomass, after that very little. The best solution is to put a splitter in after the storage then run one conveyer the same way you just did, but run the second converter over the top of the splitters to feed the back half of your arrangement. This evenly distributes the biomass and stops front-loading.

Wait... I thought 15 biomass burners was the most efficient because the burn rate of solid biomass was something like 4 per minute and 15*4=60 So with 15 burners would give you 450mw and then if you keep a stash of solid biomass in the burners built into the hub you have a great layer of protection against peaking your power draw and blowing a fuse. The trick to this of course being that once you get coal power and higher you only calculate how many MW of power you have in coal (for example) and meanwhile you feed the biomass burners (including the two on the hub) until they're full so you have 490mw of head room on your coal plant. You do this because biomass won't burn unless there's enough draw for it. So as soon as you see your biomass burners kicking in it's time to either build more coal power generators or move on to oil power.

@@Ambient5oul If I understand the problem correctly, you should manually craft some biomass and add it directly to the burners, which should kick start the automated process. With the old biomass burners you could even add wood and leaves directly but I've not tried 1.0 yet, but I'm sure it would still work the same way. You could just add 5 0r 10 to each one to get enough power to get things started off. Is that the issue you're having?

@@Ambient5oul The video is just to demonstrate the layout, you won't have the jetpack unlocked either at this stage, but he uses it to show from above where everything goes. If you get the whole thing set up and then put some crafted fuel into the burners, it should fire up and start producing. You also won't have mk2 belts but you can add them afterwards. Don't get too hung up on the details, just get it down and get it powered. Your main base has two biomass burners, hook those up to this and you should be set. Let us know if you're still stuck and we'll figure out where the problem is.
@FenixFenix-p5p4 ай бұрын
why are you creating storage container for biomas?
@braize62794 ай бұрын
Because it's the main supply to the burners. In other factory games, and this one, it's called a "buffer" or a "buffer chest" or an "oversupply" whatever you want to call it. This way you can always just dump your grass and wood into the main, and never worry about it backing up. Now, that said, will you ever fill up those raw material containers with grass and wood? Probably not. But this keeps the biomass constructors working. That, and lets be honest, storage containers aren't exactly that expenisve. And it's easy to just grab your chainsaw and vehicle fuel from there too
@setakh4 ай бұрын
Was wondering about the correct setup, I kind of overkilled it with adding one more constructor to make the solid biofuel, but it seems 1 is more than enough! Sweet! I'll just need to put this on top of a platform so it doesn't take up so much room ^^; (but I'm at the very beginning so it will take some time). And damn, I still tried to do the 90° with the conveyors, totally missed that you can do it with the straight mode! \o/

I find it takes away from the game long term to have to connect each machine to a power pole. It is ugly. And far late game that is a lot more objects needed on the map harming performance and game engine limits. Will be going back to the Daisy Chain mod pretty early in my new playthrough.
