I’ve always used cotton batting, and hand quilting. I want to do wool with my next project. I am making a quilt, repurposing an old linen/cotton blend duvet cover, and adding in some other Essex linen/cotton piecing. The whole quilt top will be preshrunk cotton/linen. Since the fabric is old, it won’t be shrinking any. Should I prewash and dry the wool batting, before sandwiching, pinning, and quilting?

Can you use poly batting low loft with a thin cotton batting

Layered on top of each other? As long as their shrink rates are similar, it shouldn't be an issue.
