I use Makita Tool batteries to power my BMPCC4K camera. The Makita Battery adapter is available on eBay or Amazon. I connect the output from the adapter to a DC-DC buck converter 15-40v input / 12v 5Amp output. I have a huge collection of Makita cordless tools, so the batteries are dual purpose. I made a lexan belt clip for the adapter and wear the batteries on my belt to cut down on the camera weight on the gimbal. My next project is a DIY Arri Trinity type of gimbal.

Informative, but do you not have any lights? It's very difficult to see the gear your are talking about with a black camera in low light. 😉

what are you using to mount your monitor on top of the grip?

I would recommend the SmallRig adapter plate as well, it's probably the most well made adapter plate on the market. I would also recommend IDX SL-F50 batteries for utmost reliability. With a genuine Canon LP-E6N battery inside the camera to act as an UPS, you can go all day without having to power down the camera and just hot swap the NP-F batteries as needed.

I agree with all of that. And use all of what you mentioned! This video was just simply a budget built for people who might not have the money for those. Especially considering the IDX batteries are double the price and the battery plate is $20 or so more. 100% more reliable though! Keeping the stock Canon LP battery in has saved me so many times!

@@wesleyrussell4912 I'm all for saving money where possible, but sometimes it costs more to save than spend. I bought a cheap NP-F adapter some years back and it didn't even convert the 7.2V to 12V, it was a complete scam. I can recommend the Andoer brand that works well and is about half the cost of the SmallRig adapter. The only thing that was a plus and minus, at the same time, with the Andoer was that the power cable is fixed (plus), but it's on the outside of the camera when installed the way that I wanted so that battery installation was easy (minus). IDX batteries aren't cheap, but I've been eternally frustrated with cheap versions that simply fall short after a very short time of use. Batteries are just so important nowadays and it's really hard to find high quality batteries.

Are you able to power both camera and monitor using the smallrig adapter plate? Thank you!
@AustralianImage
@AustralianImage 3 жыл бұрын
@@JirehTorres If the monitor only requires 7.4V or less then yes you can, as the adapter has both a 12V and 7.4V outlet. You will have far less recording time available though, as you're now drawing a lot of power from the battery.

I like how you rig it on the top. on a BMPCC 6k pro it will be a good solution because its not gonna block screen like v mount batteries do. so you can use its own display which can flip. so you may not even need to put external monitor for most the time.

Hi, your video is really helpful thanks! Do you keep the default battery inside the camera ? I've read people saying that you cannot powerup the camera without it but having 2 power sources is not recommended.

My fotga plate came broken from the factory, the cord wasn't even soldered to the terminals in the plate. Get a smallrig plate or something high quality.

Hi, very nice video, also about to run this setup! :) I almost have the same gear. One question though: Do you use a seperate np-f for the monitor, or you use your adapter 7.2V with a cable, and charge both your camera and monitor with that one NP-F battery? My other question is, that do I need a Canon battery inside my camera, to run this setup, or can I power my bmpcc4k with the adapter only? thank you in advacne! :)

I do separate it. I normally run a smaller NPF for weight and balance reasons!

You're so right. Lol realistically I would love a double NPF mount and then put that on 15mm rails. But if I'm gonna run rails then I'd rather have V Mount. It's never ending.

Well firstly this presenter needs to go on a lighting course. Why so underlit. Everyone raves about the camera but once you have bolted all the accessories to it you might be better off with a decent camcorder. Just saying.
