Best tip for new players: Don't get attached to your loot/gear. You WILL die, and you WILL lose everything. There is no escaping this. Devs roll out a big patch, and suddenly it's goodbye gear, or even goodby base. Or the server gets shut down. Or someone raids your base while you're offline. Or you fall through the terrain and die. Or some other stupid bug or thing happens. Hell, you may just be jogging through the woods and trip a random grenade tripwire someone placed 6 days earlier just because they could, no rhyme or reason. You will die. You will lose everything. If you're playing to have the best gear and a huge base for hoarding, you're playing the game wrong. DayZ is about that initial grind, the battle between you, yourself, and the elements. The friend I had who taught me how to let go, to enjoy the early game instead of striving for the late game, taught me by intentionally blowing his head off while fully kitted, and told us to keep the gear, or do whatever. He'd get it all back again anyway doing what he loves, playing the early game.

@@themotorcycleguy5980 Well, layely I've mostly been helping my friend setup a custom server, Corrupted's Paradise. We're both admins, and about 2-3 months from getting it fully setup. We're getting some custom boss fight monsters made. I won't go too into it, but it involves dynamic events, and a bounty system not unlike The Witcher where you slay monsters and take the head as proof of the kill. It's gonna be pretty sick. The aim is to hide the best gear behind a black market trader pay wall, and you turn in heads for black market tokens. Boss creatures will make bears look as easy as killing a chicken by comparison, so survivors are encouraged to band together to bring down the boss monsters. An example of a weapon only available from a black market trader would be the Snipex Alligator, a massive anti-material rifle that fires 14.5x114mm rounds, and can one-hit-kill any vehicle.

Use to play it some and have always loved the whole survival part of the game but been playing more of it here lately and I'm hooked on it again. I've found a few custom servers I've been playing on that I like and enjoy kinda the peace of just surviving by myself. But I have always wished I've had some friends to play with on there as well. Everytime I've tried I just get killed instantly but hoping I can find some people one day that i could run with and be a group cause i feel like that could bring a whole nother level of experience on there.

That was a very informative video...however I think that level of information needs to be up front for all new players. That info is way too important to be buried by the game developers. Tutorials need to be little better...because you only have like 30 minutes to find food and water before your character dies. Klunky controls and terrible inventory management schemes do not help in the learning process. I love hardcore survival but this game with the lack of information up front might be a little too brutal for most people.

The mushroom thing you mentioned saved me today. I was with someone I just met today and we were heading from one village to a bigger village, cutting through a forest. Well he had no health left and could barely walk so I ended his suffering so he could respawn and hopefully make it to the village I was headed to. My health was critical too because of hunger and just as I was thinking to suicide I found a mushroom. It raised my hunger and put my health back to yellow, basically filling it to half which was unexpected.

I have different method I'll describe in min but my very first game was in the dark , and raining the heaviest type and thunder n lighting. I'll add my tips. first off I'd suggest you run down the beach until u find a dry backpack..don't leave that beach til u have one..however if u spot houses enter them and try find food , clothes and knife or crowbar or other tool to craft rags..always check outdoor toilets for iodine or other disinfectant. Get some and disinfect rags. If it's raining a raincoat and wellys are great. Use them. Then back to beach for that Dry bag. Once u have one u can move your way inland. Once rain stopped swop our raincoat and wellys for other jackets and shoes. Make a fire and take all clothes off then pop back on when dry..this guy gives info on all that. Best things to find ...sledgehammer. lockpick. Binoculars or rangefinder. Heatpads. How or shovel. Gun with mag and bullets.

The most thing I miss when I don't have some sort of a knife is not to be able to stealth kill Zombies. - It's so mcuh faster to sneak up to them from behind and just kill them with one cut and move on without be heard.

Great video comrade! I do believe you should have emphasized the run-dont-sprint part a little more. You're sprinting throughout the video and it's a sneaky death trap for newbies just wanting to get inland, and most won't even realise that the reason they ran out of hydration was due to that.

Sickness is so much more a PITA in this game than any other game mechanic in any other survival craft game I've ever come across. ...Mostly because the most important medicine (tetracycline) is basically non-existent. If you get sick, you have a 99% chance of dying a slow but certain death, even if you go on a frantic search for medicine.

I think it can be an experience thing personally. At the start it was hard for me, but I havent died of sickness in years. Once you know the map better, and know exactly where to go when you're ill, you have more than enough time to find medication/search multiple areas it might be in. But as a beginner, this is way more difficult. Prevention is always better than cure though =]

The fishing tip will help me so much. I never can find hardly any food and I go inland and find even less. But I'm now gonna just stack up on fish and chickens before going inland! Would you recommend just finding a house and staying in it until it stops raining if you decide to not go to another server?

I do take cover sometimes yeah. The thing is there are different kinds of storms so it can sometimes rain for quite a while on and off. Especially on Livonia. If this happens I travel, but try and cover under trees, or get to a town and loot. Just remember the clothes into hand, and then wring them out option and your insulation won't take too much of a hit =]

No matter how many times I play most times I end up just never finding a thing and dying of starvation. It gets so damn old to run around for an hour over and over.

In this case I recommend trying a community server with the loot turned up. Build your skills by learning that way and then once you feel confident you can stay alive, switch to other servers. There are some servers which start you with some decent supplies too. Alternatively, if you don't want to do that, stick to low populated official servers where there is lots of untouched loot and food(usually), and then switch your character to a highly populated one when you are fed and supplied so you can meet people. It's a hard game but when it clicks, it clicks.

If you play on console every time you drop something that can hold stuff (pot, pan, bear, crate, clothes, backpack) check it once it's on the ground to make sure you didn't drop an item with it. Sometimes it will take your rifle off your back.

Totally does, first, had no idea how to make the hand drill for easier fires. Looting routes are narrowed down now thanks to the guide at the end, I have a better idea of where I'm going versus blindly hoping the building I chose was a police station 😆 🤣

@@PutbackGeneral Haha, I remember them days myself. I was constantly sick too but never knew where or why I couldn't find medications to help me out. I think I died of illnesses 100+ times when I first started playing. I have a navigation guide dropping in the next hour, maybe that'll be of use too =]

Jesus the inventory management and crafting is so much better and simpler on PC than on console. It’s the biggest issue I have trying to get into this game. I have it on Xbox and dabble in it a little and really want to get into it full swing but the inventory management is what’s holding me back.

You can use a M&K for console. Lots of servers allow it, just look for the icon next to the server name =]

Trees, trees, trees. I started playing this 3 or 4 years ago. I've had lengthy pauses throughout that time. I'm playing it again though. I feel like there are more fruit trees available than there used to be. I hate cheating in games and people who cheat, but I do sort of cheat with this game. I look up the game map online and use it to point out.....well, anything. There is a very detailed map available. And when I say detailed, it shows you everything down to the damn fruit trees that are around. My kid told me that you kind of have to work an area for a bit before the trees start dropping fruit. I don't know if this is true or not, but sometimes they can be stingy when you most need them. Orchards tend to be giant teases. The scattered trees along roads or in yards seem to be more generous.

I’m not sure if it’s new since the video came out but you can also find mushrooms near hay bales, A lot too I found like 6 yesterday on a single cluster of bales but that was probably just a lucky spawn.

For new players, this was literally my first time spawning into DayZ. kzbin.info/www/bejne/pJmshGxshtd4odU I hated it. Nearly 8 years later with about 1,400 hours put in over that time, this game has improved so much it's now a regular in my rotation of games I play. Don't let the steep learning curve dishearten you; this game is worth playing, and he's right, all this stuff will become second nature to you.

A big tip for people who hate fighting zombies is just run in a house and kill them through a window. It's what i do allot. I'll fire a shot to attract allot of them and just take my time hitting them while they can't touch me.😂

BLOOD LOSS - if u are struck unconscious and awake with cuts, immediately wrap them. If u are so low u are fainting..crawl or squat run or stagger to ANY indoor area..shed, house anything. Once inside Lay down remove backpack. And just stay there...ten mins and ull regain enough to leave. Ull need some food n water if food not hydrating u. If u are surrounded by zombies when u downed stay there , don't move..just remain on floor til blood back. But Ur better off crawling to indoor area. Lock door if u able. .
